As somone who has owned a 5th gen 4Runner and has driven my friend's Outback Wilderness, I can tell you what most 4Runner owners don't understand: an Outback is FAR more comfortable of forest roads, access roads, fires roads etc than a 4Runner ever will be. A 4Runner gets bounced around, while an Outback just soaks it all up. 99% of 4Runner owners never even take their ride on forest roads and certainly never actually rock crawl or do true off-roading. If you are someone who actually camps and clocks up lots of miles on forest roads and gravel roads, do yourself a favor and just buy the Outback. Its far more comfortable on the highway, the adapatable cruise control and steering/lane assist is far superier, the sound system is better, and it's wayyyy more comfortable when you leave the pavement.

I got the outback wilderness a few weeks ago, on the streets, sluggish for about one second, then the turbo kicks in and it is a rocket, very fast, on the highway is very responsive, and sensors are more refined than the forester sport. This is an ideal vehicle for bad weather, like we have here in Chicago, and ideal for our bad bumpy streets. I tested those tires in a very rainy day, the performance was very impressive. But I'd like to see a video where the Wilderness is tested on the Bear Pass, Colorado.

I think this car is awesome except for one thing that would keep me from buying it. The CVT. I live in the northeast (NH) and many of my friends and family have Subaru's. They are good cars overall but in the past five years we had a CVT go at 88K miles on a 2015 Forester, my friend's 2014 Outback (4 cyl) first CVT went at 121K and the SECOND ONE went at 187k. Talking to the Subi techs they said they saw more 4 cylinder CVTs break than the 6 cylinder ones. Apparently, the 6 cylinder ones were stronger. I know the 6 is dead but these are garbage transmissions. They are cheaper to make and meant to be thrown away and replaced not repaired. The one we have in our family we change the transmission fluid every 30K miles and it is still on the original transmission at 108k miles. Just a heads up from if you buy one don't lag on your tranny fluid changes.

5 years ago I specifically avoided a 15 Outback 3.6R vs my 13 because I wanted the 5EAT instead, which is no peach of a transmission. I was shopping for a wagon to replace my extremely cantankerous E46 330i, and the only things that really competed in terms of space was the Jetta Sport Wagen. I don't trust VW. The CTS was cramped inside for how large it is, same with the Infiniti FX/EX. The 13 has been extremely reliable. I've only performed basic maintenance to it, and put Bilstein B6s on it.

I just test drove a 2022 Outback Premium and is it just me or do they seem a underpowered? I think if the engine was turbo it would have been fine but I was underwhelmed and I really want to like the car. Not a fan of the CVT either but that is just personal bias mostly.

A Subaru is more of a rally car than a rock crawler. The Bronco is like a "rock crawler". From what I can see. I would go with the Outback Wilderness for traveling and going to do outdoor stuff. And the only reason I would buy a Bronco is if I live near off road trails and beaches. The Bronco sounds like it would not be a comfortable vehicle to drive on a long trip to get to the off roadish places.

The question is if you run it twice down the road if it shakes itself apart We had a Forrester 2016 did a little off road in Azusa canyon and it was stuck more often than not It did fine on the dry stuff Once in the mud and rocks it’s struggle

Don't understand CVTs that simulate fixed gears. The whole point of a CVT is to be able to hang at the optimal RPM. Just put in an automatic if people hate rev hang so much.
