This is more about submarines than the Yard itself. The submarine complex is but a small part of a three-mile-long facility which at one time could accomplish absolutely anything for ships. It was 'contractorised' in 1987 [when I worked there] and much of it subsequently sold-off and/or demolished. In 1982 18,000 worked there, now it's only a few thousand . . .

HMS Valiant ran into propulsion issues late 1960s in the Caribbean Sea. Along with a repair team from a close naval allie, she was fully repaired to the point of continuing full workups. This watery drama closely resembled a James Bond movie.

Why are these reactors not hooked up to shore power until a reasonable disposal system can be made for them? Energy is not free in the UK, this has already been paid for. We have the same problem in the USA, our electric bill should be free.

"The HMS..."; "Drought"; "Diesel Generators to reduce their noise even further"; "Nukuler". What a joke piece of supposed reporting this is, especially scaremongering that the primary circuit could rupture resulting in boiling off of the primary coolant. There is nowhere near enough decay heat in their cores able to do this. Comparing a 'live and operational' reactor with that of a decommissioned one shows your sad lack of knowledge and your eagerness for drama!
