I've already seen it twice, and I'm actually looking forward to seeing it a third time. Loved it. It's turning into one of my top 5 favorite movie's of 2024.

I really liked this film, like you guys said it's horrifying, it's funny and yet so sad. Very Cronenberg yet it stands on its own two legs!

I don't know if The Substance is the best movie of 2024, but it's one of the most bizarre films I've seen. Actually, if you want to see the movie, don't eat anything.

Major plot hole! One has no idea what the other one is doing. Which makes them totally different people. That's the biggest flaw. If the consciousness was switched from body to body then it would be one person and it would make sense, but the movie needs conflict between them so it disregards it's own plot rule. Demmi Moore's character would never sign up for that deal since ther is no change for her except for the worse.

They are one mind. Separate bodies are a metaphor for internal struggle. Self hatred, addiction, body dysphoria, ect. I also thought it had a hint of the strong connection between body, mind, and societal pressure. When Elizabeth is Sue, she makes all the same mistakes she probably made when she was first young. Having a young body in itself could heavily influence your behavior
