Very good video with other scenes of Philly interjected. I live in FL so no subways here, but I'm from Philadelphia and rode all of them a lot back in the 50s as a kid. My dad had 2 flower shops in the subway. I grew up riding the subways, the EL, trolley cars and busses, including trackless trolleys. Recently visited there and rode the regional rail for free, now that I'm a senior citizen!

@@transitvideosbayarea I mean, the Chicago El is a subway since it goes underground, whether metros go underground or not, they're technically still subways

I don't miss riding the subway. I do enjoy watching videos of my home town. These days, I will not even drive across the bridge to San Francisco. Too much noise, too much pollution.

Man does this vid bring back old memories. I grew up in West Philly. We could see and hear the El from our porch passing Sears at 63rd & Market. Rode it many many times. Thank you for sharing this.

Considering America doesn't support public transportation, I'll gladly take what SEPTA offers. Never felt unsafe. There are some whackos on them just like every city but 95% of the people are just like in this video - sit there with headphones on. For being so old I find the stations to be in decent shape - especially compared to some NYC stations. I was there a few weeks ago and was shocked at how many are literally falling apart.

If SEPTA plans to replace both the Market Frankford and Broad Street fleets with newer trains, would the infastructures allow both fleets to be replaced by one common replacement fleet or would the infrastructures require different replacement fleet types for the two different lines?
@transitvideosbayarea4 жыл бұрын
It would require different trains, because the third rail on the Market Frankfurt Line has the electric contact facing down, a unique system only used by Metro North in NY. Broad St Line uses conventional 3rd rail.

There is a song about this- “Ya can’t get to Frankford on the Frankford El”! It’s on KZbin. Grew up in Philly, taking the el tons of times. Living in Florida now. Only thing like the el is the tram at Tampa Airport. Nothing else is close for me.

Nicely done. Despite it’s grittiness the EL and subway could be a very zen experience. It’s where I grew up. I left Philadelphia years ago because of political persecution (Philly is filled with aggressively hostile marxists and feminists manufactured for the past 30 years by its colleges) to somewhere far away where I’m much happier. I don’t miss the people there at all, but it was an invigorating environment. Thank you for giving me something to watch with my coffee and toasted bagel w/ Philadelphia cream cheese :)

Patco is based on a distance fare sorta like zones. The further you go the more you pay but it’s still cheap something around 6 bucks end to end

Is the subway mostly an el?
@lambo89614 жыл бұрын
There are two sections that are overground with a underground section. It is mostly overground though. It starts out overground (69th-Market to 46th and Market) and then it goes underground (46th-Market to 2nd-Market) and overground again from Spring Garden or I-95 to Frankford). I hope that helps

While locals call the Market-Frankford "The EL" and the Broad Street Line "The Sub" The Market-Frankford Line is classified as a Subway/Elevated Line, which means technically yes, it's a subway. The uploader was not wrong for referring to it as such

The great America has trains that are ugly and very loud. As far as trains are concerned, has not the US really developed ?! Everything seems very primitive. The stations also completely underdeveloped. At first glance, it looks like Germany 50 years ago.

@artureklatexia44104 жыл бұрын
Nelson Ricardo I do not bring a country forward with a stupid sports stadium. For this you need highly modern and very attractive new trains. But this statement just says everything, why the US has come down in very many places. Maybe it will work - make America Great Alain - in the next 100 years.
