A suggestion for both your channel’s-do a split screen when on the phone with each other providing signals & microphones work without problems. Sync the audio from each others footages to avoid the lower quality heard through the phone speakers. Another possible challenge for the spring or summer is a small/city car low range challenge. EV-a G Whiz or Citroen Ami vs the ICE-Reliant Robin,Smart car or classic Mini. Something with a small fuel tank to make it match the low range of the EV. The main rule of the challenge is motorways are off limits & if possible two/one lane roads only are allowed(you can use a mile of dual carriage way for a short distance only to refuel/charge). Afterwards you have to immediately return to the same two lane road to continue the journey.

I was in that massive earthquake in Japan the other day. Myself and my family were trapped under rubble for a good few hours, but thankfully nobody was hurt. We were all a bit scared but to add some levity I suggested it would have been foolhardy to own an EV in such a situation as I would imagine there isn't much electricity at the moment. Well suffice to say our shaking in fear soon turned to shaking in mirth as we giggled at the thought of the growing queue of EV owners waiting in futility while the petrol heads zoom into the sunset laughing. We were laughing so much that the rescuers asked if we wanted to stay a while longer!!!! However several of us had soiled ourselves by that stage so we politely declined and left.

When you charged at Wye valley and that 2nd car split the power available that perfectly highlights the elephant in the room with a transition to all electric vehicles, as that 150Kw is the absolute maximum available even if they put in 6 points so divide that by 6 = 25kW The reason the infrastructure is so seriously lagging is simply either the power is not physically available or the costs to provide it from the local DNO are so expensive no one will pay those costs, hence the 85p/Kw hr and that is just the one charger at 150Kw hr. As a power industry engineer I know this, but people cant or wont see the picture and view EVs as I phones or food mixers , This is a whole new ball game with regard to loading and demand. Octopus energy are incentivising customers to use less power now !!! So what hope for the massive demand of EVs we simply can meet that at distribution level as it stands, even if it could be generated. When you see all the new underground power cables going in to meet this demand then you can have faith in the future, Its not happening now and I cant see it for all the above reasons.

I’m a lorry driver, I use the A14 and know it well. So your question why do lorry drivers overtake and then sit side by side? The simple answer is weight. All lorry drivers want to maintain a regular speed. Your mate mentioned Lorry’s limited speed and that’s the key. If you’re travelling along and closing on another lorry the one thing we don’t want to do is lift off and slow down because it’ll take forever to get back up to a safe speed. So you begin an overtake manoeuvre. Unfortunately what happens is if your on a hill at some point the weight of your load will play apart. The lorry your overtaking might be lighter than you. His unit might have slightly more HP than you or you reach your speed limiter and simply cannot go any faster. Now you’re stuck. If you slow down to get back over you lose all you momentum. So your at the mercy of the lorry your trying to overtake. By the same principle his also trying to maintain a constant speed so doesn’t want to lift off either. So what you now have is a stale mate.

How do Macmaster. Thanks for calling me a pain in the arse.. 😂 (lorry driver). The problem is when a truck overtakes another truck on a dual carriageway is that they are limited to 56mph max, so the truck on the inside lane could be travelling at 54 mph and the truck on the outside lane could be travelling at 56 mph. So it's going to take a while for the overtaking truck to pass and get back over to the left. Another thing that happens is that they could be sitting side by side for a while because the truck on the inside won't back off slightly to let overtaking truck pass, I'll back off and let overtaking trucks pass because at the end of the day it just pisses everyone off being held up by us truck drivers.. 👍.

law / highway code says being overtaken one bit of it says slow down if necessary to allow pass, speeding up while being passed can also be classed as dangerous. so what i gather from HC is the truck what being overtaken must slow a bit esp if the one passing is struggling to get past at reasonable rate. just wish more road user knew that section of the HC 168 being overtaken

The problem with the newer trucks on the road is that they have what they call a governor that restricts them to 56mph so when they overtake each other unless the overtaking truck is set a little faster than the other truck they will stay alongside each other until one or the other gives way and eases off. Some older trucks don't have a governor fitted so they do go a little bit faster, also some newer trucks have been tampered with to go a little faster, but the seals on these governors have to be checked on it's M.O.T. by the ministry of transport.

Until there is parity with petrol/diesel, electric cars still have a way to go, it might take a number of years yet maybe 10, 15, 20 years time. I am a BMW driver, my wife is an Audi driver. We bought our new BMW 4x4 diesel last year 2023, I can't justify paying 20% more for the EV equivalent, the depreciation loss in such a short time, nor the inflated insurance costs and finally public charging costs and terrible infrastructure. Like the majority of drivers and car owners, EV's do not give value for money nor the peace of mind that most of us take for granted whilst owning a car.

That offshore structure that Geoff asked about at the beginning of the video is a WW2 era gun platform, and I think that one is known as Rough Towers. There were a few of those forts dotted around the Thames estuary and after they were abandoned they became popular during the 1960's as bases for pirate radio stations and, although both Radio London and Radio Caroline expressed an interest in moving onto it at one time, I don't think any broadcasts were ever made from Rough Towers, however, another of the offshore pirate station owners made claim to this particular one, renamed it the Principality of Sealand and he and his family occupied it for many years, I don't know if it is still occupied however.

The ONLY reason EV sales are so poor in Europe and the UK is because the manufacturers and governments have targeted the wrong end of the market. Very few people have the money for a £70,000 all singing, all dancing car capable of 2 second 0-60 times. If they had gone the other way, aiming for the £10k city car market with the capability of the occasional 100 mile trip they would have sold as fast as thy could build them.

The clear issue with EVs is charging time. There's no getting around that and really fast charging is limited by physics. Compared to ICE vehicle refuelling there is no fast charging for EVs. They are always slow chargers and it is just the degree to which they are slow. The faster you send power down a power line the more of that power is lost to heat making very fast charging, like the time it takes to refuel an ICE car, an issue that will be extremely difficult to solve. On any long journey that you might do in an EV you will need to leave hours earlier than you would with an ICE car if you needed to get to a destination by a certain time. The long journey will always be completed quicker in an ICE vehicle.

Surely you are not serious in asking such a stupid question however that is what I have come to expect from EVangelists. A long joutney is not pottering around a city and it is not a short day trip to the country. It is a journey that is greater than 500 miles and covered in a single day. It is a journey on open highways and rural roads far beyond your regular driving habits. In Australia where I live our rural journeys range from 600 to 800 kilometers or 375 to 500 miles and I know of no EV that can do that journey on just 1 charge yet my ICE vehicle has done that distance easily on just one tank. I notice that you havent challenged the charging issue. The EV rule seems to be - Always be charging - and guess what, you are always charging. @@DwaynePipes

This is naughty... If you want to deactivate a public charger, fill a little plant sprayer with salt water and a bit of washing up liquid and spray the plug pins... The earth leak will deactivate the charging station. I design stuff like this and have shouted at companies to redesign the plug to prevent earth leaks. I demonstrated this failure mode to a few companies who don't believe that water is a problem...

Hi Lee, I'm a lorry driver, and the reason why we try to overtake our trucker freands is this, morst trucks are fitted with a speed limiter, of between 54 and 57 mph, each truck is different so if I'm driving down the motorway at let's say 55 mph on the inside lane, my truck friend is limited to say 54 mph I will try and overtake him/her, but if I'm loaded and they are not, it only takes a small hill to mess it up, and remember I can only drive 9 hours a day, so every 1 mph over a week makes a big difference, its not a easy job, I'm thinking of being a vloger lol

Forget the Tesla if you like driving.. Out if curiosity I hired one to do a journey from Baisingstoke to Birmingham, for my Moms birthday and see family..Loved the car power was emense deliberately didn't hang about stuck to the average speeds ,oh sorry forgot to mention I had to stop to pick my Son up in Reading ,so not too much of a detour I was giving it a bit of Welly on the A33.. Them Teslas can bloody shift for sure😅..Cut a long story short I made it as far as Warwick Services..Nearly 56 quid then had to charge again on way back 48 quid .On the other hand did the same Journey in my Focus ST hybrid made it there and back on a Tank of Fuel, petrol 65 Quid and quarter of a tank left Two and a half hrs quicker .. Just saying.. Happy new year all..

How on earth did you manage those prices? Warwick Services Supercharger is currently 55p peak, 43p off peak. Taking £56 at the peak rate would buy 100kWh. The distance between Basingstoke and Birmingham via Reading is 99 miles, call it 100. So what you're saying is that keeping within the speed limit, you managed 1kWh per mile. What was the car, when was the trip and which chargers did you use because that's not adding up.

@@neilarchbold94 Yep I read what you originally put and did appropriate calculations. When was it? If it was about a year ago, supercharger prices were quite a bit higher but if in the last six months, my figures stand. Seems you got a shade over 1 mile per kWh which is pretty difficult unless you were literally hoofing it away from every junction? Maybe you were doing that. Expect the same level of economy driving a petrol car. Nothing about an EV head, just basic sums and a level of interest. Driving down through France in summer at around 80mph, I was getting three times the distance for the same power consumption. I wonder if the hire company has a surcharge on the rate? That's possible, to the point of being quite likely. I've not hired one so it's a question out of interest and makes it even more unattractive for a non Tesla owner. A Tesla owner could use their own Tesla account and get normal pricing. Shell card though, did you use Tesla Superchargers or other third party? Thanks for coming back with info though and Happy New Year too.

Its a fair point about wasting time waiting to charge. Which brings up another point. Given public transport still needs heavy investment, what will EVs do to UK productivity and therefore wages/cost of goods/Services? I distinctly remember the business case/rationale behind HS2 being a time saving of 30 minutes when travelling London to Birmingham therefore improving productivity. So given travel by EV takes longer and is therefore less productive, how does one square this conundrum? Do we just accept it and pay more for less???

Viewers to your channel must realise that you are quite correct and EV's are not the future and at present only about 15% of new vehicles sold are EV's. Any company that relies and comcentrates on just that 15% is at risk of going bankrupt.

Here is a thought: a ride-share car that is electric for small commutes in cities. The car docks on special back into pads. This makes sense, but with the reliability of electrical technology, it will have issues flying. I used to work in heavy industry, and there are regulations around how much power the average person can handle. An electric car's high amperage and voltage are 3 times too much power. In Canada, as the average person in the public, you are allowed to use 120 volts, 15 amps of power. Switching a switch that throws power on anything higher than this is illegal. I guess the EV industry says the power is not flowing when you are plugging in the car, yet you are standing beside a cord with more power than an arc welder when charging.

The future depends on the politicians we elect and what laws they pass. If EVangelists out-vote us, our gas cars will be illegal and we'll be forced to buy EVs. Doesn't matter how inconvenient EVs may be. Once the gas cars are all off the road, just wait for electricity prices to go up...and up...and up. So, people, we all need to pay even more attention to who we vote for and try to convince a few others to go along.

@mjpfl8131 - "just wait for electricity prices to go up" - I've been saying the same thing for a few years now, and what's worse, is that it means everyone will be paying higher prices for electricity, including those people who drive ICE vehicles, and, even more crucially, those people who don't even drive a car! We're been ripped off left, right and centre! When has your electric bill ever decreased because of all the 'cheap renewable energy sources' that they're littering across the country?
