Hi Lee, You are right regarding insurance premiums, I also know someone in the industry and they told me the same, that due to the cost of write off EV's being so high, that premiums have increased to cover this. Annoyingly for me as an ICE driver (a proper car) this also affects me, he said they have just increased across the board. My 2022 BMW 4 Series Coupe increased by £300 year on year. Bloody evangelists! :) Keep up the great work on your videos, love them all.

Let's see next comment can't afford to put solar on. Answer if you can pay a mid size power bill yes you can. All you have to do is use your brain, if you live in a backward country not everyone's problem that's yours.

@@domcentoyou must have like 30-40 400wp+ panels if you’re pumping back 45kW after charging, especially when it’s not summer. That costs an absolute fortune even with current low solar installation prices. We’re selling installations in NL for ~€450 per panel at the moment, do the maths. For average people this is not affordable. Also the average roof takes like 8-10 panels. Must have a huge house or barn in the backyard.

Well what can i say your a person who tries tp pick on everything without any knowledge, solar was installed at a zero net cost if you can understand what that means but i think you cant grasp the concept solar was installed prior to purchasing the EV!! It paid it self in 1.8 years. Our power bill was more than the interest free payments on the solar installation, feeding in so much!! Feeding in means sending back to the grid!! We decided to buy an EV and run it for free from the excess we send back to the grid. I can sort of can understand your confusion living in a country where your summer is our winter. Depreciation is a real killer. After five years replacing a battery after accident damage is more than the car is worth. Average age of gas cars on the road is approximately 14 years old, with many a lot older. No EV will last that long even if you store it. The battery begins to age from day one. If it lasts ten years you're lucky and by then it's worthless except for scrap. They are a rich person's luxury.

4:20 into the video and I can say categorically that the insurance has went up for diesel cars. My wife recently renewed her insurance and questioned why it had gone up so much - hinting about ev's and the chap on the other end said that they were definitely a major factor in the price rises. He also concurred that the storage and repair added a lot to the claims, along with car hire while the EV was off the road. No doubt some avid EVangelists will reply to this claiming that I'm a liar, anti ev or some other such nonsense, so I'll reply to them now. You're blinkered and in denial. Take the rose tinted glasses off and admit that for most people in most circumstances that EV's are a bad idea.

You don't get the point. Even if %100 of comes from burning fossil fuel it is still cleaner and healthier to have EVs over ICE vehicles. In major metro areas with millions of cars air pollution is a big issue and source of many health issues specifically for elderly and children. The same gas/diesel can be converted to electricy 500 miles away and all the cars in the city use the electricity. You get the point ? Now think about like you said only if 50% of the electricity comes from fossil fuel that will be a huge added benefit. On top of that it is a lot easier to control the air pollution of few big power plants than millions of cars and the list goes on and on.

Apparently the underground wire connections keep blowing because all the suburbs are now drawing a lot more current than they used to. Not just EVs either. Also heat pumps. And many of the substations (transformers) are running hot, or over their rating resulting in the mains AC voltage dropping below the minimum British standard. When we converted some Bedford CF vans to electric (around 1984) for Lucas, the battery pack was lead acid, when it went low, it was either swapped out for a fresh in 10 min’s if it was still needed, or slapped on the charger. Perhaps, (to make things easier) EVs could have universal battery packs (kept at charging stations due to their volatile nature) where you could just roll up & either plug in or swap out.

In Australia I was speaking to a guy who replaces broken glass. The guys are on call 24/7 when rostered. They are legally able to park their light trucks at home in the street as they are under 4.5 tons and can drive them with a car licence. There are plans to change the fleet to EV’s. There are some issues: 1) The weight of the trucks will be over six tons and require a heavy rigid ( Cat C in the UK) for dual rear axil truck license, which most of the drivers don’t have. 2) Trucks of this weight cannot be parked in the drivers home street as they will block suburban streets due to the size. 3) There too many trucks to park at the company office yard. They will need to find a field to park them in. Another additional cost. 4) The charging infrastructure needed to charge the batteries would be that of a small city meaning even the power companies network would need a massive upgrade to cater for the charging of the trucks. 5) There would need to be massive increases in charges to the public to cover the infrastructure upgrades. 6) Delays in after hour services as the driver would to travel to a yard to pickup a vehicle which they don’t do now. This will also add costs. 7) The cost and time for all drivers to upgrade their licences. 8) The distance travelled each day to outlying areas and back will mean range anxiety as they would have highway driving to return to the yard. EV’s what a joke. They are not practical. There was a plan to change all the small vans with Royal Mail a few years ago. How is that turning out?😂😂😂

If the police were to move enitrly over to EV's, are they going to risk writing off a police car (battery damage) doing a TPAC maneuver or using it to block or ram a fleeing car theif? I'd imagine our council taxes would be rocketing to cover the exesive repair costs or write offs. 🤔

I have owned an ev for 3 years. The csr itself is fantastic, but the issues with insurance, depreciation, batteries, and charging are a total pain. Its going to be sold later in the year before my insurance is due, and in any case before the battery warranty expires. I fear in the meantime for possible accident repairs i may encounter. My advice for traditional car drivers is to stick with them. My replacement car is going to be petrol again, not a new one, snd hopefully not exeeding the resale value of my ev.

I predict a massive rise in the mechanics industry if governments restrict the numbers of new ICE cars. They will be needed keep these ICE cars running. It is already evident that the prices of second hand ICE cars is rising. I have a 2 litre Astra diesel car. £35 road tax. £300 insurance. 50 to the gallon. I see no reason to change it. I have spent approx £1500 in vehicle repairs in the last 3 years. Cheap motoring for me, which makes me smart.

You have mentioned on several occasions that they should put canopies over the chargers. I have to totally agree with you. Fuel pumps always have them. You guys get a lot of rain over there in the UK. You have to putz around for a great deal of time to get things charging. It just seems really crazy.
@Hitstirrer
@Hitstirrer Жыл бұрын
It has something to do with our ancient planning regulations. It's easy to get plans passed if the total installation height is below 2 metres. But to get permission to build canopies can take some years as they seek all kinds of reports before allowing them to be built. I know this must mystify Americans who happily sanction huge signs everywhere, but we are stuck with this system.

Our McDonald's in Pittsburgh only have drive-thru service. (drive-thru is buying your McDonald's coffee at a window). Since Covid19 Pandemic, McDonald's have closed all their restaurant seating. I think it is ironic because in the past, things in America were ahead of Britain. Our standard of living has been dropping since 1970. Actually, I quit eating at McDonald's years ago.

In California insurance has gone through the roof for both houses and cars and, yes, it does seem that older ICE car owners are being punished for something they have no part in. My liability only car insurance has gone up quite a bit in the last 3 year. This is only part of the story though because our home electricity costs have also gone WAY WAY up. There are a few reasons for this but I would be willing to bet one big reason is because nearly everyone is putting solar on their roof through government incentives and/or empty promises so the power providers are simply making way less money off their average "customer." I put quotes around customer because, lets be honest, we have no choice. It's really starting to get to the point where you either lube up and take the cost now or risk potentially losing even more by not putting panels on your roof. Worst of all is that no one is fighting for people like me who simply don't want to pay a ton of money to hopefully break even on that investment 15-20 years; and are also unwilling to allow any company to lease space on their roof so that company can profit while slightly lowering my energy bill. I honestly find it shocking that so many people willingly do this, but a lot of people also buy brand new electric cars that wont be worth half their price in a few years while they also carry around a cell phone they have to charge twice a day because the battery no longer holds a charge like it did a few years ago... So; here we are. Out here in Cali it's getting kinda close to a government forced investment because its clear the people that have the power to stop this nonsense have zero intention of doing so and every intention of pushing this woke narrative further into the brains of those that live based on what they are told without actually researching and thinking for themselves. I get climate change is important and you can believe me when I say preserving nature and our planet is extremely important to me but THAT IS NOT WHAT THIS IS. These are businesses gouging people based on government narratives and government allowing it to happen because those companies lobbyist have convinced them that they are in it for the greater good and not the massive profits they reap off legacy customers who are not buying into new "green" products.

@@HarryBaalzach You're absolutely right a ban doesn't physically stop you from driving. But if you've been banned from driving for no insurance and THEN you get caught driving on a ban, that will very likely land you a criminal record and a custodial sentence. Do it again still and the sentence and the ban likely get worse and longer. Essentially it's meant to be the slippery slope of facing jail time that should stop you from continuing to offend. Generally on the whole it works because I would rather not pay the circa £1k of car insurance that I currently pay, yet I do pay it because the consequences of getting caught would cause me much more issues than losing that £1k a year. If you can't afford your insurance and you care little about consequences then no doubt that might be the type of person willing to risk it.
