In regards to the third act; I didn't like it much at first until I re-watched the movie with Brian Cox's commentary (he was the physicist they consulted for the film). He basically shed a lot of interesting light onto the motivations of Pinbacker (Burny McSlice-Slice) and how it did connect overall to the theme of the film which was the sun. From what I remember, he explained that Pinbacker was a scientist and the captain of Icarus 1. He was all about science and the mission at hand. And yet, the closer they got to the sun, the more he lost himself in what is essentially the most powerful force in the universe that we're aware of apart from black holes. So by the end he was driven mad by not only the pressure of saving Earth but also by being face to face with the sun. We can kind of see this when Searle is constantly looking at the sun with his shades and such. These are people who have lived in a world where the sun does not shine and so being face to face with it the closer they get is almost awe inspiring to them. In regards to Pinbakcer's introduction into the film, it does fit. Everything that went wrong was due to human error on the part of Tray (Benedict Wong) for forgetting to set the shield to his new calculations, and Capa for believing that the risks were worth the trip to Icarus 1. From the shield malfunction all the way to the Icarus 1 expedition being a bust and Pinbacker's infiltration to Icarus 2. It was all down to a simple choice and human error. Oh also, thought I'd explain the big wall of sun at the end when Capa detonates the payload. Before making the choice to go to Icarus 1, he explains that the gravitational pull of the sun and the speed at which the bomb enters it would be so fast that space time would be incalculable and pretty much be all over the place. So the explosion is happening in mere seconds for us but for Capa it's a single moment stretched into an eternity, giving him this personal moment with the sun. Icarus confronting God in the sun as it were. Bit of an essay, I know. But I felt I needed to defend what is, overall, a pretty solid movie.
@estoylaroca2 жыл бұрын
I mean, the main "root" of it all is Pinbacker. Like, if he didn't go insane, there'd be no icarus 2. If he died, there wouldn't be a third act etc. etc. And what you're saying is, it makes sense because "being face to face with the sun" drove him mad. ... what?
@Skulduggery_G2 жыл бұрын
@@estoylaroca Bit of an oversimplification, but in a sense yes. He was driven mad by a Celestial body none of us can even begin to comprehend, and never really will given that if we get too close it will kill us. Yet in this movie they are able to get so close they're practically touching it. Literally in Capa's case. A man of science, enormous pressure on his shoulders, face to face with an overpowering force of the universe, he goes mad and believes it's God communicating with him.

I remember a story about a guy, who was like that in the university, they had the same gacha addiction and they were close due to that game. One day when they both failed their majors the dude was hopeless, even though he comforted him that he could still take it next year. In the next year, the other guy passed his back subject while the other failed. It was because the other guy was so obssessed about his game that he took it too far. And failed because of his addiction. Yet he doesn't blame it on the game but blames the system. The other managed to finish his degree, but during that time. He kept begging his friend to come back playing this game, and started saying " society is hopeless, college is only a place where you only need a degree to become an employee, we both failed miserably, there are other things better out there than just becoming the norm." While the other guy responded. "And what if I don't have a choice? What if I fail again? I took the game seriously I never even deleted it. But I still managed to pass and get my degree, I wanted to help you but you keep refusing. Why? What's so wrong with pushing through the course? You could have shifted, but you didn't, you can already find a job, but you still live with your parents. What's going on Hal, for God's sake just tell me what's wrong!?" Then Hal the gacha addict responded. "Because, I don't want to become part of society where being normal is the norm. I'm trying to wait for that moment to happen to me, there is so much things out there I want to do but the moment I enter into that world, I become so afraid of the fact that working a lousy desk job or a job that just makes you serve people feels so scary to me. I can't handle everyone's tantrums, no matter how hard I try to face it, it's becoming more and more louder, more bigger, and scarier. I find comfort in this game. Because I get to be someone that I can't. There's no God here that can help us make our lives flourish. Everything is just repetitive with no change, we won't be even be able to reach the end of time, we are in this nihilistic world that is doomed to die. Our lives have no relevance here. Brian, the moment you get there you won-!?" Brian stopped and said to him. "No Hal, for the most part your right, our race, lives and this universe is meaningless. But our purpose here is to provide meaning to this nihilistic universe. The game taught me so much that I feel like I want to gain control of my life again, i hate my course, but all I need is a degree to help me get to the military, why I want to join the military? Because it's closest thing to becoming a hero. Even if I end up in my desk job, I can still make options and make it through my dream. God never abandoned us. We were the ones who abandoned him. Why you ask? Have you ever wandered why there's no gods and mythical beings wandering in this world? Because it's called fiction, all those things that have represented in the game are all fictional and yet, I still believe it, because if the game allows you to become a god that makes dreams come true then maybe there's chance that we can grow and reach our potential, i wanna join the space force Hal. I know it's stupid but through all my life reading myths, comics, manga, watching anime, and playing videogames. I want to make those possible. If I can't then maybe the next generation will be able to come up with something amazing. If you understand anything about myths then maybe you'll get to understand what gods, titans and humanity have it going. From what I see. The gods are parents who raised their children to help them nurture the world, but when they start to grow up as teenagers, they become rebellious and demand they want to control their life again they are the titans. Due this issue some gods would let them go, to find solitude and meaning in their lives and wish to create a path by working in the present to build progress in the future. While the titans only wish to take their parents place. The humans love their parents because of their blessings, given to them, because of this the parents are ready to part ways and move on to the afterlife. While the rebels only see nothing but hate and wrath from their parents and so they abandoned them. Parents don't decide our future we are the ones creating our future. So the moment you say God destined all of us to die. Then you fail to understand the meaning of it all." As Hal heard this. He was speechless. Not knowing what to say he walked away. Shocked to know what Brian said to him, he felt relieved and depressed for him knowing the meaning of life gave him a tear.

Wouldn't it be easier and less expensive and much safer to build the bomb than just slow it down enough for the sun's gravity to pull it towards it. I mean the odds of missing a 1,4 million KM sphere which is pulling the object to it's centre are really low.
@estoylaroca2 жыл бұрын
Considering as what's stated in the movie, is that it's *LITERALLY THE LAST BOMB* they could conjure up to save the earth, how would it be easier / safer (not going to count "price" because of what I said a few words back)? I mean, you didn't even try to state *HOW* it would get close to the sun. Like, literally the first dilemma was that they were too far from earth to receive / give communication to it. And considering that they had a NAVIGATOR, this meant that it wasn't just a straight path. Funnily enough the reason why there's a navigator correlates to what you stated last. You really think that the *ONLY* thing that's going / is being pulled by the sun is a bomb? Literally 3 min in it states that Icarus 1 faced problems of facing *ASTEROID STORMS* So yeah, a little thinking would've been useful before commenting.

Anytime I remembered it, I imagined myself being in his place or the place of any other person on that ship... It hurt so much, and yes, I still remember it. When I was 14 I rediscovered Sunshine and realized why I fear the things I fear. I found out the origin of the idea of jumping from one spacecraft to another which is drifting away while being doomed to die no matter what I do. Now I'm almost 18 and this movie still interests me, it remained at the back of my mind the entire time. There is something about it I can't describe, it draws me in. However, I haven't rewatched it since I was 3, at least not fully.
