I genuinely felt so horrible for the way certain elements of the world's governments treated these benign visitors - they were as gentle as E. With that said, comparing bigoted natives that didn't want Europeans to bring vibrant immigration and diversity to their lands to interstellar capable aliens is dumb. Interstellar capability is also world ending capability. Any ship can just toss a rod out while zooming by at relativistic speeds to totally sanitize earth. Also, the civilization behind that capability is going to fucking massive. When their home hears about you ooga booging and attacking, it may directly escalate into a sterilization response. Sapience don't abide hostile sapients, at all - which is why there is only one sapient species left on earth, there used to be many.

Fun fact: Shang's wife's dying words were "In war, there are no winners, only widows". Director Denis Villeneuve intentionally left it untranslated, wanting to focus on Banks using her premonitions to convince him to lay down his weapons. Screenwriter Eric Heisserer was not a fan of this, and revealed the English translation at the premiere.

@ZehnHero ok, so you admit we're killing animals too and in massive numbers. Now what if aliens landed on earth and started treating us exactly the same way we treat animals ? Save a couple and murder billions. You'd be cool with it ? Just a dumb example that should make even someone like you think. PS not sure if you knew, but cows, pigs don't kill other animals
@itsClaptrap
@itsClaptrap 2 жыл бұрын
@@terrorsquadlith cows and pigs most definitely have killed other animals, for survival, other animals have done plenty for "fun" toward other animals cows will literally eat snakes if they have a protein deficiency and Pigs will eat live rodents if theyre hungry and the rodents wander a little too close Orcas decapitate seals and play volleyball with their heads, and Dolphins will pleasure themselves with the decapitated bodies of fish, to completion. this "humans are the greatest evil grr" rhetoric is silly, we're not the only ones capable of cruelty. So maybe rethink the goofy idea of "maybe we're the real monsters" and review what other animals do in nature before you try and say we're somehow exclusive in cruelty/odd violent behavior

I don't think that this movie is about aliens at all: it's actually about the importance of humanity uniting, speaking the same "language" (symbolically: the language of peace, harmony, integration, coming into terms etc.) and becoming one single entity so we can have a future. We are part of the same "circle" (of life, of existence, of humankind and humanity and happiness and hopes and sorrows...). This common, universal "language" is the only one that can unite us all, human beings, and provide us a viable future. The aliens are just a pretext to explore this theme.

The idea of "Let's kill the beings that have broken the laws of relative time to make it to us, SOMEHOW, because we should shoot first" My guy, if they have made it to our planet, they are so inconceivably powerful that we should welcome then, intelligent life is beyond rare and they'd be ecstatic to find more, even if it's nowhere near their own intelligence. Even if we shot at them, they'd probably be like "They're just scared, we would have done the same if we were in their position, they're acting on their instincts". They wouldn't enslave us, they've most definitely got robots that can work without food, water, and with confined housing, they wouldn't want our land, they can probably terraform entire solar systems to be perfect, they wouldn't want our recourses, they can just go mine Mercury or Uranus.
