Brioni is still my all-time favorite brand. My first suit was a navy blue Brioni 180S made of 100% virgin wool (bought 5 years ago). This piece sparked my love for classic menswear and the quiet-luxury that goes with it. I was recently looking for something nice from Kiton at Sobs in Cologne. Kiton is the highest level of tailoring from Napoli and belongs on this list for me. Very expensive in the boutiques but a bit easier to find second hand than Cucinelli. I would also recommend Burberry if youre looking for a trench coat or a coat in general. Im currently looking for a Kensington second hand but in very good condition. Greetings from Düsseldorf!

I consider myself very lucky because here in New York I was able to purchase lots of high end designer clothes at ridiculously low prices at a store that specializes in that. For example, I purchased Brunello Cucinelli suit for $430, which retails for around $4,000. Dozens of beautiful Italian cashmere sweaters, most of them at around $40. A beautiful Jil Sander blazer for $274, which retails for $1,610 etc. Unfortunately, the store filed for bankruptcy after pandemic, but reopened in May and, it’s a completely different store with all great brands gone. But I did really well before closing and got my wardrobe full of great clothes.Keep in mind: all the clothes are brand new with tags ! And, not to forget Missoni socks under $5 ( I got around 4 dozens!)

Great List Lukas, given that we both live in Germany, I can tell you that much about Ralph Lauren since Im a VIP Customer in Berlin, Most of their Polo, RRL and RLX lines are made in China, and while most items can usually be found for a much lesser price and same quality, there is always a standout piece here and there. So always buy in-person if you can. obviously their top line Purple Label line is flawless but their pricing is insane. Duties also play a big role in Ralph Lauren pricing, so if you can have someone pick items up for you from the US, you'd roughly save 30-40% on ALL items.
@markh729510 ай бұрын
Have to be honest, I can't really get behind including Uniqlo in this list. As part of the fast-fashion industry, their clothing is designed to last no more than 10 washes before getting added to the eternal landfill (given their propensity for non-degrading synthetic fibers). Further, I was at my Uniqlo yesterday and saw a table of "Cotton t-shirts" (their words). I review the tag, and it's 51% cotton. I mean my goodness. Likewise, Banana Republic has been doing what Lukas cited Ralph Lauren as doing: integrating 20% to 40% polyester, nylon or acrylic in their clothes and still selling them at full wool or cotton prices. I'm gonna say it right now: quiet luxury brands = products that are made to last. Uniqlo and BR sadly don't fit into that category
@Lukas_Schanderl10 ай бұрын
I fully understand your viewpoint. From a pure "luxury" definition, there is not much luxury about those brands and like you said, they often use synthetic blends, but for people who are on a budget and simply want to achieve the look without too much focus on fabrics, I included them on the list. I prefer to go for second-hand in that case, but I also know many people who would not shop second hand.

I just found this video and there are a lot of brands mentioned in it that make some exquisite clothing. I also have several Zegna ties that have a wonderful feel, and look really classy. I also have several Canali pieces: a suit (fantastic fabric), 3 sport coats`(they drape beautifully and look and feel so elegant), a pair of cotton trousers that look great, and 2 Canali dress shirts (again the feel of the fabric is fantastic, indeed luxurious). I have a John Henric Linen shirt. It is very wearable. Cool in the summer and very wrinkly, just part of the charm of Linen, and a lot less expensive that other brands. I have several Brooks Brothers Egyptian cotton shirts (the only ones I buy), and I love the fabric. I also have some pieces that are not in the video, but are listed in the "Not Mentioned" section. These include Proper Cloth a made to measure company. I have not formed an educated opinion yet, but use a shirt that fits for your measurements. I also have a Corneliani sport coat of excellent quality. The Isaia sport coat I have is Super 100s with a burgundy/charcoal gray/blue check on an olive/tan background. Absolutely gorgeous. I have 5 Eton dress shirts, some the best i have. Great fabric, good fit. Love them. I also have several Paul Smith shirts made in Italy, which fantastic. Some are unusual, really look great, like a navy colored herringbone pattern dress shirt, and a french cuff brown/steel blue/brown/white/charcoal gray striped shirt that is one of my favorites, and very versatile. Now, of all of this, about 80%, I got on eBay for an average of 10-20% of the retail price, some even less expensive. Of the sport coats I got on eBay, they are full canvas, a mark of high quality. So educate yourself about brand quality and what to look for and you can put together a closet full of high quality clothing for not much expense. It just takes time and patience.

Good list, I've also listed some brands that people should be aware of, having pieces from these brands myself: Private White VC (£120): Made in the UK, this brand experienced a downturn in the early 2000s but has been steadily rebuilding its reputation by targeting younger people. Good discounts as well. Malo (£300): Comparable to Brunello but at a third of the price. They used to lead the market in cashmere prior to the 2000s. Cruciani (£450): A bit of a risky choice given their latest pieces, but their vintage collections are outstanding. I have a sweater which I’d probably rate on par with RLPL. Mauro Ottaviani (£700): Only buy pieces which use their cloudy technology, I'd rate these above LP if you want long lasting pieces. Otherwise their regular cashmere and 3 ply aren't that good. Colombo (£900): The best cashmere money can buy. I rate them leagues above brands like LP and Fioroni due to price and their 4.0 technology.

@okseaj9 ай бұрын
@@Lukas_Schanderl I would say their casual shirts. They almost fit perfect out of the box, but the smalls are too tight in the shoulder and chest while the sleeve length works well. Medium fits well on shoulders and chest, but too much cloth on the sleeves. Same goes for their jackets. I also find their casual shirts run a bit long no matter what which indicates to me that they are meant to be wear tucked in - so that could be limiting based on what your style is. I've adjusted to just wearing shirts tucked -- which I actually like stylistically -- although it is uncommon to do in my age group so you stand out a bit. The fit is nothing a tailor can't fix I suppose. Other than that, the quality is usually really good and the clothes are delivered very nicely which is an experience in of itself. I'm a big fan.

Great video... For Americans, I'd throw in Peter Millar, which works really well with wardrobes based around the Brooks Brothers aesthetic. Also for Americans, you can't really go wrong with LL Bean... which mixes nicely with Ralph Lauren. In addition, with respect to shoes, I've had really good luck with Sperry and Cole Haan. Both are incredibly well-made (for the price), and their designs are based mostly on the classics, but with a slightly modern edge. I've lost interest in Banana Republic. Over the past few years, the quality of their fabrics seems a bit diminished... but for those who enjoy BR, I'd suggest mixing it with J Crew. For the money, J Crew is very well made... especially with respect to their jackets, vests, and coats. Cheers!

Ralph Lauren has three labels. Polo Ralph Lauren, which is the least expensive label (which is also what you mistook for the luxury label), RRL (expensive mid tier rugged luxury) and purple label, which is out of most people’s reach.
@Lukas_Schanderl10 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. You're right. The purple label is extremely expensive. If I had that kind of money, it would probably not be the first brand I'd go for.

Suggestions for a high end brand for casual, night life t-shirts? Specifically I am looking for a brand that uses varied textures and weaves rather than just slapping their logo on a plain $5 t-shirt and charging $500 for it. I like to feel luxury through the material quality and texture and pattern decor rather than just a flashy digital print.

Thansk for your comment. For this, I am really not sure. I had a look at Sunspel, but their t-shirts are very minimal. I bought a textured polo shirt from a Korean brand called IoloKorea, very interesting fabric and high quality, but I am not sure how easy it is to find them. @sespos: Thanks for jumping in to help :)

I personally buy bespoke. Far better than overpriced brands. I can choose the finest New Zealand wool , choose the silk lining, buttons, design and have it made over 5 weeks in Asia. I get handmade shoes, shirts all based on my sizes and emulating the finest British and Italian clothes I have now for a mere fraction. Unique and a subtle name of the tailor, shoemaker. I still have a solid all leather, double welted shoes made to measure from a Thailand shop . Cost €60

I think Imitation is a good way to try new things. I also have a Kelly -style mini bag, the price is only a small part of it. Personally, I would hesitate to buy imitations of small companies, but for big brands, *amzclothes* I don't mind, as long as they do not directly copy the brand/logo.

This store opened in New York 60 years ago and was known as “best kept secret “. The funny thing was that many Italian tourists would come to buy clothes by Italian designers and take it back to Italy because it was so much cheaper! But, as I mentioned earlier, after the store reopened this year, they changed the entire business model and eliminated most high end brands. Now they offer boring overpriced junk. Very disappointing…

Charles Tyrwhitt is pronounced "Tirrit". (You did very well with it, so I'm not trying to criticize your excellent English.) By the way, I've heard bad reports of IndoChina - I've no idea how fair they were. But I've used ITailor, which runs on a very similar model - they're good, for modest prices. Vinted troubles me - I'm not very keen on wearing somebody else's trousers! But by the look of it, I should overcome my qualms.

Thank you for the correction, Robert :) It's always appreciated. I heard the same about IndoChino. I think HeSpokeStyle made a video about them, as well. I'm pretty happy with Proper Cloth. @@Lukas_Schanderl Thanks, you mentioned that you haven't bought other items from Charles Tyrwhitt. I bought an overcoat from them last week when I was in London for 280 pounds. The best I found was an online store in Germany for second hand items that lets you filter the condition and allows for returns. So you can choose "like new" and get clothes that many times still have tags on them for 80-90% off and if they don't fit, you can return them without any extra charge. Now they raised the prices a bit, but you can still find good deals occasionally.

The best RTW pea coat available IMO. - Patrick Johnson, an Australian MTM tailor with a strong RTW line. - Rubinacci, a famous Neapolitan tailor, again with a strong RTW line. - Permanent Style, has some great individual pieces. - Kit Blake, for more traditionally styled trousers. - 100 Hands for shirts. - Berg & Berg, very high quality foundation pieces.
