Okay HEAR ME OUT! Adding the dog at the beginning was a mistake. Honestly, Duckhunt would have been incredible but my friends and I think we have a better answer. Say these rich people had an exotic turtle. This turtle could be named "Cooper" or something hilarious like that. Here's how it goes. While walking to the bathroom, the turtle glares down Luigi and makes him scared. This scene would have been funnier because 1. Why does a turtle have this rage when they're usually shown to be dopey and slow/old, 2. It still strikes fear into Luigi anyways. Now when the Bros enter the bathroom, say the turtle is somehow already behind the door when the homeowners close the door. This is also hysterical because it shows this turtle to have some kind of superhuman speed. The visual gag here would be great. NOW ENVISION THE FIGHT SCENE! Mario trips on the turtle and it hides in its shell, when you kick a shell in Mario, we all know what happens. The shell goes flying, destroying the bathroom in various ways. Not only could you fit in many nods to the game into this scene but it also feels completely original. NOW THINK OF LATER IN THE MOVIE!!! Peach literally asks Mario "Are turtles evil in your world?" in the original movie, Mario just laughs and says no. THIS COULD BE A HILARIOUS MOMENT where Mario goes "No?... Maybe?" while obviously questioning the true nature of turtles in his own world. This would be so funny.

Honestly after having watched the Movie I deeply appreciated the fact that this movie's plot didn't have to be some type of deep and complex masterpiece, with a giant message like every. Single. Critic. Nowadays expects. I was aware the movie would be aimed at kids and keep the story digestable since that's what Mario has always been. But I was throughly enjoying myself seeing my childhood displayed so well on the big screen The humor was both well suited for adults as well as kids Overall I genuinely think the Super Mario Movie was an absolute joy for what it is And it was nice to have a simple family movie for once If Movie critics are really eating their own feet over this movie, I'd say let them.
