The Mario movie is easily one of the best video game adaptations because there are moments where the audience would go "Come on! Do the thing, do the thing!" and they would ACTUALLY do it! Just like your reaction to the mushroom sound effect, Diddy Kong's appearance, and Mario stomping on a goomba.

I've been waiting for a reaction like this! Alot of the reactions for this movie are really bland, never point out the references and music, and usually don't seem to care. I would say pause the movie tho so that way you still catch all the easter eggs/jokes but this is so far the best reaction to the movie I've seen!

0:23 - "I wouldn't have guessed it either!" Something I don't get is why some people treat a movie adaptation of one of the most popular and iconic properties, so popular that for a while Mario was more recognizable than Mickey Mouse in some demographics, being a massive success as some kind of "surprise". I mean, granted, it could have been an absolutely terrible movie and that could have damaged its impact somewhat, but bad movies make lots of money all the time, see the pre-Bumblebee Transformers movies (or better yet don't). Besides, Illumination tends to make movies that appeal to a wide audience, even if the actual quality of those movies is average at best, so to me at least, there was no doubt this movie was going to be a success, it was just a matter of how successful it would be. I will admit, though, I wasn't expecting the movie to reach a billion dollars globally so quickly, even before the movie released in Japan, and this was in spite of mixed reviews from critics. Clearly this movie touched a cord with it's audience, particularly kids and long-time Mario fans, and I feel like that's the key to any successful adaptation: an understanding, appreciation, and respect for what it's based on. I mean, if you're going to include Foreman freaking Spike of all characters in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, you gotta know your stuff, am I right? (he's the guy at the beginning who called Mario "a joke" and shows up again during the movie's climax)

Well, since they've spent 7 years making this film, it's gonna be a while for them to make a sequel. Nintendo doesn't want to make a rush product, so they want it to be as spectacular as the first one.

Yes. The Sonic movies were great. Just not as great as the Super Mario Bros movie, which seems to be the 'running' theme whenever comparing Mario anything to Sonic anything.

I meant they were desperate enough for the money to let Sonic appear in two partial cash grabs movies already, so I'm sure they'd let Nintendo have Mario defeat Sonic with nothing but a plunger and a broken toilet pretty consistently.
