Facts Rainbow Road has the best OST and is the best track in the game partially for that reason. It’s also because it takes place in space, has thwomps, is very challenging, is the first Rainbow Road and is the only track in the game without different variations. Mario Kart wouldn’t be the same without it.

It wasn't until much later that I discovered the regular version, it has the same levels, though with palette swapped backgrounds and different music. (And I think the final boss was changed from bowser to king boo even though it's exactly the same besides the sprite differences) Tbh the one thing I will never forget about that game was how I discovered a glitch that made you invincible against certain enemies in the last level by dying in a weird way.
