Subspace Emissary being canon could refer to the fact that the cliff where everyone confronts Galeem in World of Light looks nearly identical to the cliff where, in the end of Subspace Emissary, the roster watched as the last region of Subspace receded. Interestingly, this would mean that the spot where Galeem hovered as he unleashed his onslaught would be around the same place as where the Isle of the Ancients used to be.

Could also refer to Kid Icarus Uprising in the sense that in that game there are references to Smash and other Nintendo feanchises and the Palutena guidances also tie in with canon follow-ups of Uprising (like Dark Pit and Phosphora now working for Viridi). I *think* the "Kirby is the most powerful character" may be referring to Sakurai making Kirby survive in cutscenes and character reveal trailers since he made Kirby, thus having a personal bias for them. Kirby was the sole survivor of Ultimate's story mode intro and more recently, survived Kazuya's attempt to dump them in the pit. (Even though that was kind of a joke.)

If you want to get Technical Kirby can be considered "The Strongest Character" in the sense of Shear Density and Toughness, because Kirby is said to be a Being from the Previous Universe and was somehow able to survive The Big Crunch And Big Bang of his Game's Universe. And while I don't really care about the "This Character could beat this one" point liked touched on in this video I do like looking at the feats of some characters for example implying yes this *Could* make Kirby one of the "Toughest" Characters in Fictional Media as a whole, also he can go Beyond the Speed Of Light (without any form of protection) which is also how he Escaped Galeem.

I heard that the reason why Mr. G&W can’t L-Cancel in Melee is because the game assumes his air attacks are special attacks and not normal attacks. In Melee characters can’t L-Cancel when using special moves so Mr.G&W can’t do it either. There’s 2 moves Mr.G&W can L-Cancel but I forgot which. Actually, the Kirby GCN models in Brawl is referring to the trophies in the gallery. the models in the Kirby section are ripped straight out of the cancelled Kirby game for the Gamecube with characters like Bonkers, Bronto Burt, Cappy, Sir Kibble, Wheelie, and especially Golem since Golem's only appearance in the series was Kirby and the Amazing Mirror for the GBA and that enemy was going to return in the Cancelled Kirby GCN game so this would be the only time the Golem would ever have a 3D model, and Dedede's jet hammer was also going to originate in that same Kirby GCN game (Which I am surprised wasn't the iceberg) so maybe the cancelled Kirby GCN game wans Brawl has a lot of connections to each other then we probably though, and don't get me started in the Subspace Emissary.

I was pretty sure 90% of this video would fly over my head, but as soon as you mentioned the Subspace Emissary Worlds Conquest I was cackling like a madman. I have a weirdly personal relationship to that fic, having stumbled across a KZbin channel attempting to read through the entire thing during a particularly stressful semester of school. To be clear, the fic itself is in no uncertain terms a train wreck, but the "audiobook's" narrator was oddly charming, and for a few months I ended up habitually listening through his hundreds of videos as a sort of absurdist meditation. In the end, the video series never even reached one quarter of the way through the full story, but even that was well beyond the call of duty. Having willingly sat through even that small fragment, the full scale of the work seems... ineffable. Somehow divine in its sheer inaccessibility. Comparisons to Harry Potter, Homestuck, etcetera simply don't do it justice, since all the reasonable reference points are actually enjoyable to read. SSEWC's Windwaker arc will expand your mind's definition of the word "tedium".

Someone made a theory that Tabu represents maturity and the kid growing up and forgeting about the imagination. During the OG super-smash bros we can tell this through the prespective of a kid, and Tabu represents the kid as a teenager growing up and trying to give up his love for the game we know as super-smash bros. That's why he even attacks master hand, his child self. Eventually our characters attack Tabu and defeat him, because you can't really change what you love. Tabu representing the kid's maturity explains why he is so powerful.

super late but an easy way to explain SDI is that every move has a set amount of frames of hitlag when hitting an opponent, where they arent immediately launched and instead hold position for a very small amount of time. within that time, inputting a direction will slightly shift your character. with multiple really quick control stick inputs, you can sdi far enough to do cool things like avoid multi hit moves or even avoid setups for some combos. a great example is in melee, jigglypuff can escape getting hit by the second hit of fox's up air by sdi-ing the first hit, which makes her survivability infintely better in that match up. just figured it's an interesting topic, great video btw!

i feel like space jumping/teleports in subspace are a fair way to kind of even the playing field a bit more, since the camera focuses on player 1 at all times, and there's a lot of awkward platforming sections that can easily/constantly leave player 2 behind without really good cooperation between the players (as well as player 2 not being able to go through doors, or keep playing if player 1 dies, etc). especially if we're talking about two kids playing the game (which was definitely the case for me way back when), that's an argument waiting to happen, so as much as it looks like little easy baby mode on the outside i genuinely really appreciate its inclusion.

"Kirby being the strongest" might be referring to the fact that, as a Smash fighter, he's pretty overpowered. Being able to copy other fighters moves, fly for a short period of time, and having two heavy hitting moves (The hammer and him turning into a rock), it's pretty easy to win difficult battles with Kirby which is why a lot of beginner players play as him.

I am not sure if someone said this already, but I think what the iceberg means by Kirby being the strongest character is referring to the fact that Kirby is the last character standing, and is the character you use to rescue everyone else in Subspace Emissary and World of Light, when they are all defeated/captured by Tabuu and Galeem respectively. And that because Kirby is the character that can escape from all that, it makes him the "most powerful character". Though I am sure we're all aware it's because of Sakurai's soft spot for Kirby since he created him and all.

One thing about the #freemelee part. The Big House is a tournament series that is one of the biggest and most historical tournaments in the competitive scene. Nintendo cancelled it because Slippi requires the use of an emulator and that was the only way to run that tournament at the time in 2020. Normally it’s an in person event and will be happening this year. Also to add on, in 2013 Nintendo tried to take down the entire melee event at Evo, but the backlash for this was so bad that they changed their mind. Nintendo hates us

An explanation for why Mr. Game and Watch can't L Cancel is because there was some error in the game development that makes the game consider 3 of his Aerials specials, so he only has 2 Aerials and has 5 specials, I got this from a vid on AsumSaus's channel, he has some really cool vids that cover a lot more of competitive Melee fun facts

The Subspace Emissary gets so much undeserved hate. I remember pulling a near all-nighter and going from the beginning to the great maze and it taking 8 hours to do. From 9 PM to 5 AM. The next day was tough but I beat it which made up for the lack of sleep hahaha

My personal theory as to why Crash and Burn was removed from melee was because melee came out in November 2001 for North America, just 2 months after the September 11th attacks. And I’m pretty you can make the rest of the connections yourself.

Competitive Melee player here. I've heard the reason Mr. G&W can't L cancel (only some of his aerials btw. He can L cancel some but not others) is because some of his aerials are incorrectly flagged in the code as special (B) moves. Specials cannot be L cancelled--only aerials. I cant cite a source. This is just what I've heard at tournaments. Makes sense to me, though.

I think the character "NONE" was used as a space holder in the character list as all lists start at 0 but a common computer trick is to set the first item as NONE so the program skips over it.
