Recently read the Count of Monte Cristo coming in at 1243 pages followed by Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Not sure we can say we are having much of a summer weather wise here in Lancashire, England. Best wishes.

Both good reads. Well it is very cold here right now.

Kathi!!! I’m in.. this sounds like an awesome challenge and besides, what a perfect reason for me to read “Don Quixote” it’s been on my bookshelf for years 🤦🏾♀️💕
@NerdyKathi6 ай бұрын
Fabulous! I started Don Quixote last year but haven't really progressed much. It's one of a few books I've procrastinated over. I should get back to it.

What Moves the Dead is one of my favorite books by T Kingfisher, alongside Nettle and Bone. I’m just starting the Discworld books. I’ve checked out your recommendations for those. So thank you for those videos!

I've not read any Kingfisher but I will move them up on my TBR. You are very welcome, and I hope you enjoy Discworld as much as I do.

If you're reading Brothers K, make sure it's the Pevear translation! They made the best English versions for Dostoevsky.

I have the Constance Garnett one as well and have read that some people prefer her translation. I'll have to try both. 😊

I remember watching some of your videos long long ago, and then I lost the track of your channel. And now, thanks to the challenge, I found you again hehehe. It's nice to see you participating in this challenge. I don't live in the south hemisphere, but we are neighboring countries. So here, in PH is not like normal summer, but typhoon season, so I kind of understand you hehe. Oh by the way, I loved the way you pronounce the name of my channel.

@@NerdyKathi oh no, it's ok, I liked it, I tend to pronounce it with a spanish accent, my friends in USA use a different stress, and yours was quite nice, so I liked it hehe. Oh by the way, as I uploaded my video some days ago, although I knew you had intention to participate in the challenge, I was not sure if you were sure hehe, so I'm sorry, I didn't add you in my video, but I updated the info section and I will mend my mistake in the next videos I do hehehe.

You have timed this just right, Kathi. I am about to start Shogun, which should keep me quiet for a little while. I have plenty of monster sized books to read but am struggling to find many smaller ones. Perhaps a John Steinbeck as I have a collection of his short novels.

I read Shogun many moons ago, and it is definitely a chonker. Enjoy! Yes those small books are really few and far between.

I recently started watching some of your older vids and am enjoying your channel, especially the book vids. In response to the challenge, Letters to a Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke is my under 200 page choice. I am already a couple hundred pages into Sanderson's The Way of Kings so counting it would be a cheat I suppose. Hope we hear more from you on Malazan- it's such a great world!
@NerdyKathi6 ай бұрын
Thank you very much. Way of Kings - I should have included it on my list as well. I will be doing more reviews on Malazan, but I'm getting over the flu, so not sure when.

I’m in! The Malazan series intrigues me, and I think I have a couple of other monsters on my shelves…I could finish ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’-but that would be cheating a little, wouldn’t it? I started it last fall-or I could pull ‘Heliotrope’ by Palmer Pickering down and dive in. For supersmall I have so many choices! I started ‘Of Gods and Men’ by Stephen Aryan today, and will probably finish it this weekend. And I have half a dozen other novellas… Yeah, this will be good! 😁
@NerdyKathi6 ай бұрын
Wonderful! I think finishing a book we've already started shouldn't count - cheating? Not really. So glad you will be joining us. 😊

I was hoping Black Company by Glen Cook would fit into "super small" but it's around 300 pages. That series was a big influence on Malazan and has such a similar style and tone while being much less of a commitment. Hope you enjoy the wild ride that is Malazan!
@NerdyKathi6 ай бұрын
That's a series I'd like to try and I am loving my Malazan journey so far. And yes, not many books are under 200 pages unless they're novellas.

Currently reading The painted man wich i like very much and i ordered The Desert Spear which have 1008 pages in my edition. The Count of Monte Christo is on my shelf vor 10 plus years and it has over 1000 pages as well. The Royal Game by Stefan Zweig is a short Book and a classic which i will read too. The House of Paper or the Paper House by Carlos Maria Dominguez is about the search of a man who build his own house with books of his library, maybe a solution for people with too many books:-) under 100 pages. third short book which comes to mind is Allan Bennet The Uncommon Reader where we watch the Queen Reading, light and fun read.
