Adobe was also on stage with Apple at iPad Pro 2018 unveiling, promising FULL Photoshop experience. That did affect my purchasing decision and I got the device at launch. Photoshop arrived year later than promised, being a far cry from the real deal and with 10 euro/dollar per month cost (not that I expected it to be free but..). I don't believe for one second that they couldn't do it. They're swimming in money so they have the resources, they just don't want to. Not until ARM based machines become more common and the need becomes more apparent. Celsys made full Clip Studio on ARM and it's cheaper too, even though I still dislike the subscription model.

Adobe seem to be making a lot of unfulfilled promises to ARM manufacturers this last 3 years.... I just think if you go down the ARM route (except for the new ARM Macs coming in the next 18 months) forget Adobe. It could be that Adobe just can't port these Apps over to ARM touch software in any convincing way - maybe this is the clearest clue that Apple's new ARM Macbooks and iMacs won't support touch in any meaningful way compared to their big rivals.
@fallinginthed33p4 жыл бұрын
Adobe took 2 years to port from PowerPC to Intel, back when Apple switched architectures. I'd guess Adobe needs a similar amount of time dor the move from Intel to ARM on both Windows and MacOS.

@@fallinginthed33p - do you honestly think Adobe are going to make a touch centric Photoshop on ARM?
@fallinginthed33p4 жыл бұрын
@@fablewalls Nope. I'm hoping it'll be a straightforward port of the x86 version. Adobe apps have too much legacy cruft to make them touch friendly.
@fablewalls4 жыл бұрын
@@fallinginthed33p - all the big desktop Apps coming to iPad or ARM devices (small screen) are making the biggest sacrifice of all which is taking away user real estate. Until iPads or Samsung S devices start hitting 13 inches+ then there's no point really. I use CSP on my zbook as well as Photoshop - I don't like CSP on my iPad because I'm not 25 yrs old anymore and human eyes get weaker as you grow older. Touch friendly also means simplified interface to me. Of course I'd love to see Flash / Animate on an iPad but I don't work for a big studio and so I don't need the one reason that Adobe still kicks it in the industry which is dynamic linking across the suite. And because of that dynamic linking - there's no major financial reason for Adobe to port properly over and so what I originally said - if you want to work on an ARM device - "forget Adobe."

Hey Brad! I have a surface pro 7 with intel core 5. I really wanted to buy the surface pro X but it was too expensive for me. Honestly I think that it was the best decision I’ve made because I wasn’t aware of the performance problem with the new processor ( it was my first windows computer). The only thing that I really like about the surface pro x is the wider screen, the pencil, and the keyboard. Aside from that, the surface pro x doesn’t offer that much. I am someone that uses heavy softwares since I’m a engineering student and I am also a digital artist, so the surface pro x wasn’t going to work for me. I am surprised on how much I can do with the pro 7! It became my best device ever! I even forgot that the surface pro X existed until a week ago when they announced the new one. When I saw the comercial I immediately felt like I made the wrong decision but, thanks to this video, it reminded me that the 7 was the best option for me.

@@visheshmahale790 In the surface pro 7, I did some coding for my programming class so I think it works fine, but I’m not someone that uses coding regularly so I’m not 100% certain that how it would work with heavier coding. I just know that I like the surface pro a lot because I can do a lot of things with it, but the only downside is that I realized that my computer can run my engineering programs but when it’s too heavy, it doesn’t work properly and it could even crash (I have an intel core 5 so I also don’t have the best specs). Because of this, I’m thinking of buying a gaming computer in order to be able to run those heavy programs. There is a new surface pro though, that has the design of the pro x and has an intel core processor, but I also heard that the surface pro 9 is going to come out soon so you can also wait for it to come out to see the specs.

I don't do creative work such as drawing, but I do have a photography and videography workflow, and own an SPX. I'll start by saying that the SPX is exactly what Apple is trying to get to, software aside. It's the first tablet that I could actually work from and replace a computer with. A lot of folks take basic functions for granted, and when they look to a tablet, simple things can quickly become complicated or not ideal. I'm talking things like printing, NAS file access, USB devices, etc. The SPX is vastly closer to a desktop-like experience than iOS or Android. Yes, iOS has better creative apps that run natively, however, this goes beyond just finding an app to fit a specific purpose. Ok, so what does this have to do with creativity? Well, in my instance, I have a NAS file server, VMWare Whitebox server, photo printer, and LoupeDeck, microphones, etc. I've tried Androids and iPads. I could not replicate a comfortable workflow on any tablet, until the SPX. I run a VM environment with a W10 VM that has Lightroom, Vegas, etc. on it - so I'm not running any of that natively on the device. But I can RDP and passthrough my USB devices to the environment as if it was native on the device. Plug in a camera and it shows up under My Computer on the VM. Access the full photo library on the NAS is just like any other windows machine - no special apps or workarounds. Printing? Just install the driver like any other windows machine. Leave the house? Use LTE and remote in. Not as fast, but can get the job done in a pinch with enough data speed. Where the SPX shines well, well above its arm competitors, is its ability to provide a windows like experience for the supporting functions of a workflow. This is where iOS and Android fall apart. You can get closer with Android than iOS, but some of that is due to OS architecture and it's still not as fluid an experience as W10oA. This is just my 2 cents, because I never see youtubers mention any of the supporting elements. It's all just "Look iOS has better apps for tablets". It's true, but having a decent touch app for one function doesn't help me get everything done. Cheers.

I'm always shocked at exactly how lazy Adobe can be. They're going to be forced to support ARM sooner than later as thats that Apple has chosen to go with for their computers going forward. But the fact haven't yet is genuinely super disappointing, at least for Photoshop and Illustrator at least. But they simply refuse to support any distro of Linux, despite the outcry from the Linux community for it :/

@Carl Wolsey It’s definitely possible, even if it means rewriting the apps and starting from scratch, releasing stripped down versions initially and beefing them up over time. 8:54 yeah, they DID make purchasing decisions based on those promises, which is why it's important for media (that's you included, Brad) to not be like "oh, this is a better device now that they promised something or somesuch" because it's not a better device now. Like, I've been on this Earth long enough to know marketing bollocks when I see them, but the media needs to start calling the bollocks out! Like, this very video, Brad, you say "it's great that they promised to emulate 64 bit applications", and it is! It IS great that they promised, but that doesn't make the Surface Pro X a better device. It MAY make it a better device in the FUTURE, but NOW? It isn't. And in the future, you'll make a video about the new 64 bit emulation and MAYBE you'll say "now it's good!" Most likely you'll say it's terrible, because 64 bit emulation will be even slower than 32 bit emulation, but let's not get technological shenanigans get in the way of my poiint. My point is media needs to stop selling promises as if they were products. nVidia sold the RTX cards based on the promise of raytraced games. There were no raytraced games for 6 months. After 2 years there barely are any raytraced games. But the media didn't let facts get in the way of marketing, they just say "oh, the future is great" I don't care about the future. My money pays what I buy TODAY (and if I were like most people, it'd pay what I bought last year, because credit is how the world works), not what I will buy in two years. Great video though. Very insightful as always!

They should have put this out as an option for the Surface Go. It's a lower-end machine, so most people are going to stick to the basics like Edge, Office, and Paint anyway. There's likely a cost factor at play leading them to try a higher-end device like the Pro, but it's the kind of strategy that doesn't work in the long run. With the Go, you'd get the device in more people's hands, so even if it's a loss up front, you'll at least get the attention of developers who may see the potential.

The surface pro wasn't actually meant for creators and inventors. That is why they have the surface and the surface book. ARM based devices, atleast for now are perfect for use in corporate applications, where thousands of these are deployed to employees working remotely. Most of these only need to use office, webex/zoom/teams/meet, and good battery life...with the occasional cellular connectivity applications. ARM is perfect for this, as it is one of the only ways to get connected while mobile without using a hotspot or a WAN type card. ARM started with the windows RT, but didnt get much traction due to the lack of cores back then. With samsung's new devices using Dex (giving a desktop type experience), Apple's support for this, and the SQ1 by MSFT, there is finally a big enough reason for developers to focus on this. It always goes this way, first to enterprises, then general use. I'd say give it about a year or 2 more, and you'll not only see emulations, but native support for a lot of apps and games.

Actually the essence of this video is saying that you can basically do the same stuff on a tablet that you can on surface pro x... I kind of beg to differ. I travel a lot and nothing beats the always connected PC That's the first thing. The second thing which is the bigger thing is the fluid use of the file manager in a windows environment outweighs any tablet I've used to date. With windows I can do things in 5 minutes that it takes me 10 to 15 on a tablet, many extra steps Just to accomplish the same thing. No playing the delvis advocate I do say that the world or the environment is getting more able to use mobile computing on a regular everyday basis. Some companies only have mobile apps. And of course some companies use the processing power through an online portal to do very complicated things. And then in that respect I agree with you. I think it boils down to what you actually do with the computer and for me I need multiple OneDrive accounts working for different companies. And for that I'm sticking with the windows environment.

Thanks for another helpful review Brad! :) I was wondering what people's opinions are on what might be the best tablet (not pen display) to use with Clip Studio Paint?
@TerminalJack5054 жыл бұрын
Definitely the latest generation (4th) 12.9" iPad Pro. I've got the 3rd gen 12.9" iPad pro and that works great for Clip Studio Paint too. So, if you can find one of those at a good price then that would be a option as well.

I'm assuming you meant tablet and not graphics tablet, btw.

@@TerminalJack505 thanks :) yeah I meant like a 2-in-1 regular tablet opposed to the ones you plug into your computer.

@@Kimiko11111 So far as Windows 2-in-1 tablets go, I don't have any recommendations. I have a Surface Pro 6 and I do NOT recommend it. The pen digitizer is horrible, the trackpad is super dodgy and the power cable is very poorly designed.

Does Surface Pro X also have a self destructing power charger like other Surface Hardware or did they fix this annoying usability breaking infuriating flaw that they won't admit to in MS?
@tomswan34014 жыл бұрын
Im using both the surface pro 4 and 6 with the power charger that came with the pro 4. And the charger still works since 2017, no self destruct. So no idea what you mean.

Have you seen the price of a slightly improved CPU on the "new" SP X? I really have to ask who would buy that ahead of an AMD or Intel 11th gen or the new Apple Silicone? The only good part about the Surface Pro X is that no one is buying it so you can get 33% off through resellers (new). Anyway, the problem remains, will developers care enough about WOA to build ARM64 apps, or are we going to be stuck with beta emulation? I would guess that with Apple Silicon arriving that developers will care more in getting new software ready for that knowing the slow painful adoption by MS in getting WOA fit for purpose? Especially as Apple has the architecture and incentive in place to facilitate easy adoption of ARM apps. Also, I suspect Rosetta is superior in emulation than MS effort. It is no surprise that MS is in panic mode to get things moving under the threat of Apple may be killing it with Apple Silicon and leaving MS in the dust again! Being an early adopter of WOA, nearly two years ago, I am shocked how slow and poor MS has been to get this platform usable; it is woeful and I feel it may all come too late as I have given up, probably like many selling their Surface Pro X on eBay for big losses! Releasing unfinished projects, when will MS learn?

I mean Microsoft has been harking about windows on arm since 2013, they made surface RT, it was so horrendously underpowered that they just removed windows aero from windows completely so the surface RT doesn't look bad. They were serious about WOA. And about it being too late now, I don't think you will get much of a choice. You might be able to make your next purchase an x86 device, but in the next 2 years mainstream devices are mostly going to run on ARM

Adobe’s only hook for me is Fresco. If they aren’t supporting it, pass.

Does the x has an oled screen? Does anyone know the type of screen?

It’s not oled. It’s the same IPS display as their other products.

November's Windows 10 beta will have 64 bit emulation. Should be interesting, especially coupled with the 2020 Surface Pro X since it's CPU is more capable.

I’m debating on buying it as it’s on sale for 200 bucks off for black friday. It’s not much of an improvement at all though sadly, just a tiny CPU overclock.
