When will Microsoft learn that people do not want a crippled version of windows.....
@solcreate4905 жыл бұрын
Good question. I wanted a full Surface Phone for years, with the understanding of full x64/86 compatible apps. Microsoft instead abandoned the concept. Windows Phone was always a crippled product because it was false advertising: I wanted a full Windows device in my pocket, running Windows 8 or 10, but MS would not deliver this and it died on the vine due to a lack of apps. I tend to think that they really are not happy with how open Windows is, relative to iOS, and want to move toward Apple's controlled iPhone model for all their products.

I understand what Microsoft is trying to do. The surface pro has always been a poor tablet but had the the advantage of the power of a laptop. But people buy more iPads because the tablet is lighter, better battery on standby, opens up apps quicker, doesn’t crash as much or need updating as much, and better optimised ecosystem system for the tablet. When Microsoft can got these points they will get more sales. The iPad is still not a replacement as your main computer but works well in addition to having another computer.
@briannhinton5 жыл бұрын
I’ve tested it a bit myself. I ran two 4K videos side-by-side. 20 Edge tabs open with no stutter between the tabs, or in the videos. Stylus felt amazing, and better than the older Surface Pen. The feel is on par with a Wacom. Latency isn’t as good as an iPad. But an amazing writing experience. Office apps run well, and OneNote launches fast. And the reason performance is bad isn’t because of the emulation directly, but because it’s 32-bit to 64-bit architecture. The emulation for 64-bit is coming, and performance will improve. Don’t rely on benchmarks to judge this device. The benchmarks are not tailored for a Windows ARM device. I personally wouldn’t recommend it for Creative purposes, but for most other normal use cases it would be good. And I wouldn’t recommend an iPad to anyone. The general usage is so subpar to the average person. Doing many basic tasks requires handholding, and often has issues, or requires some app to do something basic.

To optimize an app for Windows on ARM is not as hard as many people think, the developer already have the source code written for windows environment and in most cases they just need to re-compile it with different settings. This is much much easier than having an Android app and make it work on iOS, which would indeed require re-writing large portions of the code from the ground up.

What can an iPad pro do.. umm.. well you can play games and may be do some "video editing" (which no one does except people who are in tech industry). 90% people use this for KZbin or Netflix. That's it. They don't flaunt their iPad to show how productive it is. A guy like me, who need productivity, who can carry around this thing and run an full windows is bliss. I work in power sector and need to run softwares which are designed for windows only. And there are hell lot of industries and softwares are made only on windows platform. You cant run those softwares on MAC OS let alone iPad pro. So, what's the use of iPad then. Microsoft marketed it as productivity tool not as high end gaming thing. It's not for that. iPad can't do and will never be able to do those things that a surface can do. Developers don't really have to do anything right now, really. 64-bit adoption on X86 Windows is optional and is mostly unnecessary, unlike macOS. (Most casual apps are still up-to-date with 32-bit binaries.) If developers use it, they have good reasons to do so, mostly for performance reason. All existing ARM CPUs are not going to give enough power to drive 64-bit-only pro-grade software like Premiere Pro with any good experiences, especially after instruction translation. Microsoft intentionally left out x86_64 translation for ARM Windows because of this.

I'm not sure who uses full Photoshop on their iPad, but Adobe promised full support (and you fail to mention this), Photoshop and most of the Adobe suite *will* make an appearance eventually but designed to run natively on this platform. Current Adobe suite is bloated garbage that can be easily replaced by less featured but far superior (performance wise) software on an iPad. They're idiots for trying this ARM crap again and again ... The only selling point of Windows is legacy apps and x86.

Best purchase I ever made in regards to Surface. I run Photoshop without problems. I don't know what people are doing but you can run it. In fact, I have found very few programs that I can't run on it.

I have serious doubts about whether he knows what he's talking about in terms of performance. It boots Photoshop 50% faster than the better model of the Surface Book 2 (which runs Win10), and the most critical I've seen another review be about emulated 64-bit performance is to say you'll notice it in a side-by-side comparison. edit: And in terms of support: if you're on Windows right now, open task manager and see how many applications are running in 32-bit vs 64-bit. Every single one of mine is in 32-bit right now. 64-bit exclusive apps are not common at all yet.
@therift_73505 жыл бұрын
Long Live NC ??? Isn’t 32 bit app are limited to 2GB RAM? I’ve heard of mods that make you able to use 4GB RAM on 32 bit. I regularly go pass 5GB when using Photoshop or Premiere Pro so it is dealbreaker. Yes, majority of apps are not 64 bit because I assume most of them don’t utilise much RAM.
@longlivenc72355 жыл бұрын
@@therift_7350 No, the standard limitation is 4GB on Windows 10, and just from some quick testing on my computer it only hits 1.2GB from a quick drawing on a 1920x1920 canvas. If it's going above 5GB on yours you either set it up to hog RAM or you're doing something far more complicated than the average user ever will.

Tablets are the only thing that I will stick to Apple for, mainly because of the superior pencil when it comes to art, if I want a windows device for working on the go I'll just get a laptop and graphics tablet

Great product without usable software. It’s just another expensive paperweight. PS. As developer, I don’t see any Microsoft session about Windows on ARM.
@pellegew5 жыл бұрын
As a developer there are lots of MS sessions and information about ARM. But with Visual Studio, compiling for or working with ARM is no different than Intel. For all UWP apps, you just tell it to compile for ARM. ... Done. If it's an x86 app, and an existing MS Visual Studio project, again just target ARM. See channel9.msdn.com/Events/Build/2018/BRK2438 @15:10 docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/arm/

I do art and wanted this for sketching and other creative pursuits. So I wish the front facing camera was 4K. Was hoping something from Microsoft like this would come out by April but would need to run Photoshop as well and other Adobe applications like Primere for video editing. Hopefully they pump out an upgrade to this one before then but that may be too hopeful.
@MatthewUnverferth4 жыл бұрын
I think the biggest problem with Windows 10 on ARM isn't the architecture. It is Microsoft not compiling all their built in apps for it before they announced it and not already having a 32 bit and 64 bit x86 emulated ready for it from the get go and not having the SDK ready for developers to catch up with them. That was what apple did and why I think their transition to ARM will be successful.

@tigerchuu21484 жыл бұрын
Leon Leon yeah but honestly the only good tablets are Samsung and Apple. Don’t get me wrong, I have an iPad Pro 11” and 16” MacBook Pro, so I like Apple products, but the Samsung TabS6 is way better than the surface pro for half the price and it’s really close to the iPad Pro as well

TigerChuu hmm and dont get me wrong too bro, i always use samsung for my phone, im using samsung note series always haha.. but never like the samsung tab... surface n apple is better in my opinion.. could u give me reasons why samsung tab is better? well maybe because i use windows, and samsung tab doesnt have it. if samsung use windows i will consider it haha... windows is really ‘open’ of u know what i mean haha

It’s interesting seeing KZbinrs review these things. On one hand they do a great job benchmarking. On the other, not everyone does video editing, photo editing, full on Adobe etc. He says the productive user is a niche user? I don’t think so. This thing should handle the basics like classroom and office needs no problem and are probably majority users.

Oh man, I was already taking a look at it on their website, to see their prices, but you killed it for me when you mentioned it's lack of a proper photoshop. Also, thank you again for mentioning the photoshop, I also use the Illustrator a lot, so if you can test it on another device like this one in the future it would be nice.
