I see everyone saying " Surge" is a "Souls-Like" game. But its combat mechanics is more complex/fast paced . More like that of "BloodBorne" ( same company as souls). And a loot/blueprint finding aspect of that of " Let It Die". A mix of the best from both. With its own unique touches. Can't wait till its comes out. Sure to be a instant sci-fi-rpg hit.

With no I-frames on dodge, poor ass blocking mechanics and the majority of your healing coming from dealing damage to your opponents, yes. This game appears to be encouraging a much faster and more aggressive gameplay pace than Dark Souls does. Much more similar to Blood Born. You would either need to be high or watching this on .5 speed to think anything different.

Swing timers are not really that slow, It is just in the demos most of the weapons used are slower. The 1H sword and duel weapons are as fast or faster than most weapons in Dark Souls. That aside it doesn't change the fact that the gameplay is faster paced and more aggressive than Dark Souls because of the way the mechanics revolving around healing and other defensive tactics work.

The 100% focus on melee combat was a bad move for a game that takes place in the future. Aside from the setting, it seems no different from any other other "Souls-like" game (attack-dodge-roll-repeat). Projectile weapons, even if their ammo and usage was limited, would have spiced things up a bit.

It kinda makes sense why there aren't any long range weapons. It's hard to make them fit in an industrial setting. However, ducking, jumping, and limb targeting make this pretty different from the souls series, imo.

tizodd6 the game takes place within a company. Not too many folks take guns to work, thankfully. I have no problem with only hand-to-hand combat, but just so you know, if you haven't played already, there is some form of ranged combat, and utilising it will keep you alive longer. Much longer.

About the combat - it kinda sucks. Especially the combos that input themselves. You want to do two attacks? Have a three-hit-combo, which will additionally launch you forward into enemy's hit range. Also, there are some ledges where the combo itself will launch you off into the abyss, when you only wanted to hit an enemy

You will be able to Customizes Your Weapons, Rig, Suite, Helmet,est. With different pain-jobs, decals, buffs, upgrades, patterns, powercores, est. By beating enemies,boss, leveling up, an searching new areas. So in the end no one will have the same look/stats as you. So This is why they didn't add a "Custome Face Option" since most of the time the person will be wearing a helmet later in the game when some foes can insistently crush your head, with out one.

I am now halfway through the Game and so far I really like it. They did a really good Job this time compared to Lords of the Fallen. It reminds me the most of Dark Souls one and gives me back that feeling I had when first playing it as my first Souls Game. Although that might be because its a completely different setting, while the other Souls Games were similar. And they have pretty cool unique features. But PvP would be really cool I have do admit, it has a really good basis for it, especially with the different Implants that gives you more variety in playstyle. Cant argue with that point if its very important to you. But otherwise I can really recommend it. But nothing wrong with waiting for a price drop.

Well the combat mechanic is close to Souls and losing of scrap/souls, restarting at checkpoints while everything is still autosaving, limited healing and punishing gameplay. I thing those are the things that most people associate with the Souls Games. At least I wouldn't know a game to compare this to otherwise. Apart from Lords of the Fallen of course, which itself took these kind of mechanics plus a dark fantasy setting.

Don't buy it. It's shit... It's just that simple. LotF was a complete turd. This game is just a more polished turd. I should've trusted my intial feeling of complete dismissal when I learned it was made by Deck13. I got fooled by paid youtubers. The game lacks everything. It lacks enemy diversity, weapon diversity, build/stats diversity, environment diversity. There's barely any bosses and they would all be considered awful if they were in a Souls game. The difficulty is fine but the game lacks in EVERY signle aspect you can think of. You never feel like you go into a new area once in the whole fucking game... It's a giant boring level with medbays and train stations spread across. You never get that feeling of discovering a new zone and progressing. You just beat a boss, get to a train station, find the medbay, fight the same ennemies in the same environment until you find the next boss. Then rince and repeat. There's a reason it's less than 10 gb. It's a scam to sell this game as a full priced. It should've been 40$ on release at most. Deck 13 really buried theirselves with this garbage. They might have fooled people twice but they will never fool people 3 times into buying low quality clunky Souls ripoff. You know Deck 13 are just terrible untalented devs who have no originality and skills. If the devs had any talent and weren't worthless pieces of shit they would come up with their own game instead of trying to capitalize on the success of another team of actually taleted devs. The Surge was the last nailin their coffin.

First of all, screaming in Caps just makes you look like a child throwing a tantrum. Also Character creation is in no way a unique or necessary theme of the souls series. The Co-Op is and the way that Items tell stories. But that are just 2 out of many things. And not the ones I would name first. I would rather go for the combat mechanics, the losing of souls, the constant auto-savings and checkpoints/bonfires and restricted amount of healing(also that wasnt even a thing in Demon or Bloodbourne). If you want a game to copy everything from the Souls series, then it would really be just an unoriginal copy. And I know lots of people that hate the co-op and invading part of the souls game or dont read item-descriptions much. All those Souls-like games are exactly that, souls-like, not souls-clones. So all the points you make about what a soulslike game should have in your opinion is just that, you opinion. Other people would name other things that they should have and most would go mainly for the combat mechanics and the punishing gameplay.

They are saying "Souls-Like Combat" do to it is close-combat for the most part. but there will be long rang as well. An each enemy have weak spots (even bosses). Beside those some trates. Surges combat is way faster an more complex then any dark souls. More like that of "BloodBorne". But also added "Execution" , " Instent Kills"(to enemies you picked up info for), "Buffs" , " Limb Targeting" an "Aerial combat". With many other ablites that will be learned in the skill tree. The Gamers who like "Dark Souls" enjoy it for its "Open-Ended" story flow which allow people to interpret it differently and solve untold part of the lore while they play. Allowing the person charter to make their own mark in the tale as it unravel. This will Not be the issue with Surge. It have a complete story line an upfront detail/background-- makeing it clear what happened an what will accoure if the player fail. Though like many other "Open World" game you can complete the missions and side-ops in any order you like ( for the most part). while also explore to find secrets. Plus outstanding combat and targeting system.

With each new Footage shown for this game. Its Combat,Playstyle,Layout,est is looking more promising. An far less "SoulsLikes" an more Classic RPG. In the regard that you can target particular limbs of foes, execution mechanic, aerial combos, aggressive/fast combat, able to customize anything you acquire/pickup. Even customize your rig with unique paint-jobs, decals, powercores, buffs, est (same goes for every weapon an tool). An get new items, not by buying them, but by ripping them off of a foe or location the blue-prints in a area. Not to mention there is no "Level Restriction" on the stuff you find. So you can get a boss weapon an use it right away with out having to dump skill points into strength to be able to use it. the only time you have to upgrade your skills/rig is to have more power shilds an able to attach more weapons to it. It make me think of the " WarHammer 3000" early games an " Let It Die" I would say if you not sure to buy Surge or not. Then Rent it or borrow a copy from a friend when it comes out. Never hurt to give a game a fair chance. A lot of people was skeptical when Nioh came out. Now that game popularity took off like wild fire.

Understandable. I'm the same way. Always best to hear reviews from all sides. Since a game might be "Perfect" for center types of gamers but for others it can be just "Okay".Also allow the game to be out for a few months. So any needed patchs/update can be done.
