THE SURGE 2 - How to Beat Major General Ezra Shields (& Get General's A.C.U. V2.0 Punching Gloves)

PHASE 1 - Metal Armor
The hardest part of the fight. Break armor on both legs as first part to getting the V2.0 weapon.
- All about dodging in and out to attack its legs.
- It has a bunch of different attacks and avoiding them all is hard, but for the most part doable if you just keep moving
- Movement is the key in this whole fight so you'll want plenty of stamina to help with that.
- Boss has a beam attack, mini-gun, flamethrower and kick. Avoid all of them if you just keep moving.
- Never hit legs more than a few times before retreating.
PHASE 2 - Major General Ezra Shields
The easiest phase, but a little tricky to start with because if you want the v2 weapon, you're going to want to take out the flamethrower.
- Jump in and out to slowly wear the flamethrower down
- Use the drone to chip away at the flamethrower
- Keep moving to avoid Ezra Shields' attacks while you destory the flamethrower
- Once the flamethrower is destroyed, target Ezra Shield's right arm
- Jump away from his attacks, let him finish his combo's, jump in and get two or max 3 hits before jumping away again
- Rinse and repeat until you get the prompt to cut his arm off.
- Don't block him. Blocking can stun him, and this can put him in the firing line of the beam weapon. You want all the damage to go to his weapon arm and not to anywhere else on his body!
You'll get the General's A.C.U. V2.0 Punching Gloves & a schematic for the A.I.D. Centauri Arm Gear, as well as the VULC-88 'Panthera' Rotary Gun.
BUILD:
No build is required, however plenty of stamina is definitely a must. But if you're interested, my build in this was:
WEAPON - Jag-22 "Aeterna' Katana Mk. VI
ARMOR - Full Jaguar armor set (mix of Mk. V and Mk.IV)
IMPLANTS:
- Physical Aggression Redirector (helps targeting specific body part)
- Dynamic Redirector (getting struck grants energy)
- Battery Adrenalizer (more stamina regen when a battery is filled)
- Ancillary Core (increase core power)
- Energy Dynamo (more energy from attacks)
- Critical Dynamo (low health gets 20% more energy gain)
- Critical Power Enhancer (low health increaes damage by 8%)
- Medi-Voltaic Injection (health, yeah)
- Critical Organ Enhancer (low health grants 20% stamina regen and 15% energy gain)
- Omni-Cell clip (carry 5 more drone bullets, basically)
MY STATS:
Health - 524
Stamina - 271
Defense - 232
Damage - 254
Key is stamina in this fight. Respect your points into more stamina if you have to. Jaguar set helps with using less stamina when you run and evade.

You don't need to break the armour on his legs. Well, eventually you will break one of the armour naturally but it's not a requirement you need to meet to get his 2.0 weapon. All you need to do is focus on one of his arms on phase two and cut it off to get it.

"This fight is easy once you know it" Buuuuuuulllllllllll sssshhhhhhiiiiiiiitttt. Been beating my head against this boss now for 3hrs and counting, sure I'm slowly getting to know the 1st phase but I'll be damned if I'm gonna waste another three hrs doing this boss blind without a guide. I really want to love this game ever since the first one, but for every one thing that's great there's three other things that suck ass.

I got lucky and beat him on the 2nd or 3rd try on my first playthrough. Now Im doing NG+ and it is nearly impossible. Unfortunately, I did not get the Vulcan gatling gun on my first playthrough and I'm trying to do so now... There is NO time to get away from Ezra and target the flamethrower properly. Ive tried for 3-4 hours.

When he shoots the mini gun, try to get behind him. He’ll quickly stop shooting There’s an implant u can use that makes all successful attacks hit the limb you’re targeting, no matter where on the body u actually hit or way u swing

They act as if we have infinite stamina for all the running they want us to do from the bosses relentless assault in both phases and to get the v2.0 weapon we basically have to fight at a handicap cause the mech we spent the 1st phase fighting is still a threat AND the boss has a hulk size leap? Finally beat him to get V2 weapon and also 30,000 scrap trophy. The mech part was easy for me since I have a tank build - I just stayed close to the legs and dodged out when fire attacks were employed. I struggled with the second part bc the general is fast and my build is a stamina hog. I found using the downed mech as a wall advantageous. Good on ya with this how to video, mate!

Woot the gloves are the best weapon in the game for me, still using them happily in NG+. The main reason is the stacking attack speed+stability buff which for some reason is not actually mentioned ingame, but you will see the stacks icon show up in the lower left corner once you start punching. The infinite combo for bigger enemies is RLLLLLLLLL..., if you don't stagger the opponent just dodge away before getting hit and repeat. Super agile and they upgrade pretty well into endgame.

Hard to say since you can explore different areas, but this is a turning point in the game where you can't go back. I'd say after this you might be half way through, give or take a bit.

I am actually uninstalling the game because of this boss. He is bugged to hell on PS4 doing stuff like firing off his flame thrower right thru his body, spamming the AoE fluid and flames on the floor WHILE kicking WHILE firing the laser rifle, doing stuff like kicking and even when I am behind him sending me flying. I am just done, not worth it, game is broken.

Fuzzy Bearbarian Alright so good news, because I am so stubborn I reinstalled and said I would give it a few more goes and killed him my second attempt after the reinstall. Ultra rewarding feeling! Sadly he died as the prompt to chop his arm off came up, but I am glad to be done. Tough boss! I had to do a stick and move strategy on him in P2, P1 honestly felt worse to me but that may be due to bugs

I didn't even touch the mech in phase 2 and I still got the 2.0v weapon. All I did was knock out armor on legs in phase 1 then cut off his arm. Don't know why but the punching gloves do serious damage in combat.

That's interesting. The punching gloves are also the best for blocking. The faster your weapon the faster you react to blocking, so if your timing is slightly out just having punching gloves on can make the difference between getting the block and not. I was thinking of doing my NG+ run with just punching gloves :)

But ive been testing them out and I'm getting cuts faster and making quick work of enemies that the spear with higher damage takes ages to kill. Im still not a big fan of the move set but I cant argue with the results.

Back on blocking, I just did a test where I found I could block attacks nearly 100% of the time without fail with punching gloves, and about 50-70% with other weapons. So not only can you make them do more damage, you can make them clear enemies faster while taking less damage. Punching gloves ftw!

@@switchlite8218 Later in the game I put a stamina focused build together, which was Nano Ward arms, Lynx Legs, Scavenger Body and Balaclava (for 3 piece bonuses from the Nano and Lynx). Stamina forever. You could add the Wraith chest piece instead of the Scavenger for even more stamina, but I don't like the look of it and for the few % points it adds I had to go with the fashion statement option :D

Keep at it man, you don't suck - it's just practice, that's all. Take a break if you have to and take another run at it later when you're more calm and relaxed. The best boss fights come after this (well, Delver part gazillion comes after this, but after you deal with Delver again...). There are too many boss repeats, but the last few bosses are pretty cool. Hopefully you'll get the urge and complete the game. Good luck!

My lord you make this look easy. I try and attack the armor from the side/behind, then he performs that fire AoE attack so I stay away from him, and since I cant close in on him, he starts using his minigun, and I CANT ESCAPE THE MINIGUN. I did mistakingly dedicate my points towards battery, so I do have low stamina, but running or jumping BARELY gets you away from the minigun, it always hits me, and it actually mows down my health pretty fast. I attack, fire attack, Minigun, dead. Any tips? Also, the 3 main weapons I'm using are Helix of the Delver V2.0, Little Johnny's Forceps V2.0, and Brother Truman's Faith

You can hide from minigun behind the big boxes, he will stop shooting eventually (watch out for the straight line flame attack though, that goes through). Try to stay close in front to him, the kick is pretty slow and lets you dodge and hit a couple times.

Not really, unfortunately. The closest one still has you run a fair way and passed those two guards who sometimes randomly can hit you with a shot. It's a bit annoying when there is no immediate checkpoint.

Could be a bug (I've heard of weirder ones). Unless you have an earlier backup save file that you could revert to, all I can say is try to get behind him before the chain gun starts even if you have to take some damage to do so.

It does it for everyone he literally shoots for like a minute straight stops for about 5sec. and starts up again you just have to stay close and go in circles around his right leg he only kicks with the left (i think) and watch out for the fuel he drops and lights up and i didnt cut off his arm but still got it but still focus on his right are and destroy the flamethrower you should get both weapons.. at least I did!!

All you need to do is pop in and out from the barriers and do charged attacks/multi-strike attacks, strafing in circles. Don't let the Gatling gun hit you too much. It will take you down quick. Once the metal mech is down you should circle around it and destroy the flame thrower. By circling the downed mech you can keep the general at bay because he will be trying to catch up to you. Once you take out the flame thrower turn your attention to the general and keep circling and using charge attacks to neutralize him and take down his armor. You will get the drone module after finishing the general in this approach. I did it on the MUCH more difficult NG+ playthrough in one attempt when I discovered this method/pattern... lie old school gaming: Figure out the pattern.

There are certain armors and implants that make your drone stronger. But I wonder why even bother ? It's totally nonviable due to ammo restraints. And your weapons deal far more damage. So I don't understand why anybody would do it, except for fun ofc.

There is, lol. 1) equip 2 partial sets, 1 from Wraith and 1 from Jaguar. It gives you +15 extra omnicells (bonuses from partial sets do stack.) 2) omni cell clip, +10 additional cells. 3) drone proximity adapter implant 4) default laspistol drone (all other drone weapons are shit) 5) implant that raises energy damage 6) shoot boss in the head while you are close to him, preferably at the hand's length. Basically this.

@@demonintellect9834 You get it from the side mission "The Three Towers". First beat the Delver then after you give his brain to Guttenberg go back to Seaside Court medbay area and find Hawke in there. Pay him (I think it was 5000) and he'll give it to you.

the second phase IS NOT easier than the 1st. Because the camera tracking for locking is terrible, i get stuck between the robot and the pilot. 99% frustation and bad design, 1% real challange.
