I hope I can say this in a way that makes sense to everyone outside of my own head, NBA interest can be down and ratings can be down while value goes up, the value will continue to go up due to advertising revenue, TV rights, merchandise and ticket sales, that will never go away, but ratings can still be down. and will continue to go down if the regular season product gets watered down like it is now.

I’ve been saying for years that if the NBA wants to do away with east/west all stars they should have fans vote for captains and players and then have the captains pick players on the court like a pickup game at the park. But with this multi team tournament idea I think they should have the rising stars challenge on Friday as usual but have the tournament with 6 teams representing each division. Each team gets 8 players, first place in each division gets 3 players, 2nd place gets 2, 3rd 4th and 5th get one. Have east and west pool play with the top two in each side seeded into a 4 team bracket. Games played to 24. First place team’s coach in each division coaches their team. At worst guys play essentially 2 quarters, at best they play 4 quarters of basketball. Winning division gets homecourt advantage through the playoffs so the coaches have an incentive to coach their team to win.
