I’d also suggest create a video on taking finasteride may cause dry eyes. Finasteride is usually taken for hair loss or BPH. But even taken for hair loss at 1mg per day, it causes dry eyes. Many people including eye doctors do not know! Since most older men will take finasteride for BPH at 5mg daily,i can not imagine the suffering it causes😂

As someone who didn't have DED before, I got it literally after I recovered from COVID. It has been a huge problem since, and I had papillae forming in my eyes but it took about 3 months before they showed up. Is this common or is it something that shows up quite fast after an infection? I am still battling MGD and inflammation - cyclosporine has helped a lot. The sad part is that a lot of doctors do not think it is due to COVID and some are just shrugging over the COVID part and sent me home with no further help or medicine. This video just makes me feel seen and heard, I felt like doctors just thought I was insane to link COVID and my dry eyes.

Yes, I have had all 4 COVID vaccine's they were all Pfizer-BioNTech. (I'm in the UK) I had no reaction to any of them, apart from a sore arm for a couple of days at the injection site. My husband had a reaction to the third injection and refused the forth. Now he has a constant runny nose,. When he first went to the Doctor about it, they couldn't says whether it was an after effect of having COVID or the vaccine! Yes even now I still have dry eyes, so only wear my contacts at the most three or four times a week and take them out as soon as I get back home, then it's back to 🤓!
@AHark172 ай бұрын
@@Anna-zu8nf thanks for answering that honestly. It annoys me that everyone is linking conditions to COVID but not looking at the vaccine. In covid, the spike protein is what causes the problems. And the scientists put that very thing…the spike protein….into the vaccines. So to me it’s common sense that the vaccine can be just as responsible for damages. ESPECIALLY when you’ve had covid AND a vaccine!?! It’s a double whammy…Hope you get better and find healing, my MIL is going through the same thing and was vaxed as well. I begged her not to get those shots 😢

March 2022. But I am a bariatric patient (surgery 11 years ago) and I had some severe deficiencies with iron and vitamin E. Now I am taking bariatric multivitamins and using Thealoz Duo Eyedrops (that's how they're called in NL, not sure elsewhere). Something is working as I don't have as much burning sensation during my sleep or a couple of hours before bedtime like before (still not good but much better). I can't say if the vitamins are helping or if the fact I used the eye drops continuously at bed time and when I wake up with my eyes irritating me. Before I could barely sleep more than an hour without waking up with pain.@@lucianf7157

Glad to read in your comments that you are taking some bariatric vitamins, it is rare but some people can develop vitamin A deficiency due to bariatric surgery, which can result in a severe form of dry eye. Otherwise, Thealox Duo is a good drop that I like.

I work with diagnostics Dr Allen. One specific bio marker we have a test for is Lactoferrin…. when levels are lower than the “normal” it indicates a sick or disfunctional lacrimal system. The incident of ACE2 in the glands are higher… I’ve ( as well as other nerds in the diagnostic circles in the US) always suspected what these papers have determined btw. Patients usually test high for MMP9 which is one of many markers of “inflammation” even months or YEARS after the COVID-19 resolved. It’s all linked brother and the boots on the ground know it. As with anything in medicine, it’s all an opinion and perspective and doesn’t mean squat.

Just like when I started learning about dieting and nutrition, you always have to be ready and open to new and changing information. The more we learn the better. Diet is so important, I still make mistakes here and there and also food in the US is problematic sometimes. Even supposed "healthy" options are marketing tools but the deep dives still show they aren't as healthy as they claim to be sometimes. Everything is a sum of its parts. I had the same issue with dry eye becoming way worse after covid . I’ve struggled for two years and became almost suicidal because my eyes were so uncomfortable . I had IPL treatment , and it didn’t really help hugely . I tried estrogen , which helped initially , but then caused horrible acne to develop , and my eyes then got really bad again , probably due to the oil issues in the glands . Then after hearing a talk by Dr Isaac Elias on a product called Pectasol ( modified citrus pectin ) . This product helps to bind inflammatory proteins called galectin-3 . I thought to just give it a try . Within 10 days my dry eyes improved immensely . Read a book called Survival Paradox - very interesting info about how to treat inflammation .

This is the first time I am hearing of this. I had sudden and fast progressing cataracts during that period of time. I had dry eye symptoms, and had to mention it a few times to the Kaiser Permanente ophthalmologist, who placed strips on my lower eyelid and decided I did not have dry eye. The symptoms persisted. I was tested for Covid before the cataract surgeries and tested negative. I never had symptoms and none in my circle had symptoms. Now I am beginning to wonder if my vision issues could have been caused by it. Like the three patients you mentioned, I also have a few dots in my vision, that I simply dismissed as floaters created during one of the cataract surgeries. My eye issues were on my mind again this month, as I was considering the cause of my vision issues. I hypothesized that perhaps I had oral thrush and the masks were pushing the air into my eyes, passing the yeast to my eyes. Dr. Allen, if you read these comments, can you discuss the impact of yeast/candida/mold on the eyes, and the possibility of yeast passing from mouth to eye through the use of masks? Interesting that you mention Covid's disruption in the gut biome, which was completely new to me. This, too, could create yeast overgrowth.

👉🏻 Great video, though I must ask, why are doctors afraid of COVID? I explain below. I got pneumonia six months after the first shot. This post is about my experience and my experience seeing others’ experiences. My nose is always so dry, every test I’ve had, there’s no way they got anything on that swab, my nose is that dry. They should have just told me to blow my nose and swab in that to at least get something, otherwise it’s like Death Valley up into my nose as far as dryness. Yes, I understand the tests are supposed to be sensitive, but all of this was unprecedented and fast-tracked, and, I struggle with not producing enough mucous, saliva, etc. To continue, the ER doctor said all the result basically says is you did not test positive according to this test performed; but the imaging shows you have some sort of pneumonia. So I was on bedrest for a week and took antibiotics. Regardless, since before getting sick, yet, after that first shot, and certainly after the second shot (as an essential worker, I was one of the early of the early ones) - my energy level and step count has plummeted. Lots of weird problems I’ve never had before. Whether it is covered in night sweats that go away when I wake up, or neurological twitches (myoclonic jerks), MALAISE, just can’t get out of bed or do things I used to, etc., etc., those shots messed me up. A couple years ago, doctors that acknowledge the elephant in the room or the possibility of said elephant, are afraid of getting pounced on. Why are doctors so hogtied or fear mongered about talking about COVID counter to Fauci or not entirely parallel? On some platforms of social media, there are warnings if COVID is detected as the topic. Who actually knows what is or is not actually misinformation? There is disinformation from obvious extremist attention seekers, but can’t the general public be given more credit that we can figure out who is credible from who is malicious? That’s why we dialogue and exchange ideas. People feel censored because, as an example, we can rant about Gonorrhea all day and I’m sure there are consp. theories @ STDs, but in contrast, once COVID is mentioned, it’s like someone is swearing or professionals freeze, have a fork in the road crisis. These open discussions need to be allowed without warnings of liability and fear. People should be allowed to speak my experience was A, B, C. What about you? Oh, you too? What if, someone messed up or something did get messed up? I’m not alleging that. I’m speaking to the freedom to exchange ideas when there was peak censorship - still could be at its prime. Maybe people simply wanted to converse, back then, when others were stonewalling those who just wanted to dialogue and disregard Fauci even temporarily. Anyway, it -appears- lots of younger adults/younger middle-aged folks have developed new conditions, normally they were outliers; now many, involving cardiovascular in someway or another; blood, veins, heart, DVT, blood clots. For some reason, I ponder there are secrets in the room, an elephant in the room. What might or might not have gone wrong, that communication is/was/is constrained and suppressed? I started to get problems concerning dry mouth and dry eyes after Covid. Of course, my screen time during Covid was also far too high - and I like to turn on the heating in winter. Plus, I do have several skin conditions which are also linked to dry eyes. So - it all may have contributed. I'm pretty devastated, because I have -6 diopters and would love to wear contacts again, especially for historical reenactment.

I contracted covid for the third time July 2023 and pink eye came with it. Can’t recall having pink eye since grade school. And ever since then I’ve been having eye issues. It occurs in one eye at a time mostly. Symptoms are pain in the eyes, itchiness, discomfort to where my eye wants to close itself. I would wake up with crust in my eyes and my eyes shut as a result. Went to the doctor, was prescribed Polymyxin B sulfate and Trimethoprim Opthalmic Solution, USP eye drops. After a week I was good but it seems like the issue arised again today. I’m thinking it might be allergies (which I’ve never had) but I don’t get any other symptoms and I get exposed to pollen and it doesn’t onset these symptoms.

@@DoctorEyeHealth There are a lot of people who have had these problems. After taking covid I ended up with a retina full of holes and myodesopsies, also eye sickness, but I think because of laser. I had a laser surgery for retinal holes. I am currently using all supplements to reduce myodesopsies and am trying to increase intracellular hydration, hoping that protease will be generated or otherwise the vitreous gel will become more fluid. 🤞 Let's hope. What a shock.

I got covid 2 months ago, and it was very traumatizing for my eyes. I went to two eye doctors and a regular doctor to test not only my eyes and all my bodies functions blood pressure, etc. Everything came back looking great. But my eyes are without a doubt much dryer than before, more sensitive, and i even got additional eye floaters. It was very scary but im hoping they eventually become a bit better with time and with lubricating eye drops that iv been using for a while now. This video and comments eased my mind a bit knowing this may be the cause and im not just going crazy.

I definitely had worse dry eye symptoms after getting Covid but I don’t think it was permanent. I think it slowly got back to where it was over a year. Totally subjective of course. Intuitively I would expect worse dry symptoms if I get sick. As long as it gets better it doesn’t seem to concerning. But a year is a long time. I really think it took that long to get back to my previous dry eye status.

The only solution that my eye doctor had come up with was give me a stronger eye glass prescription and I was on my way. When I take off my glasses I have severe eye pain. As soon as the glasses come off the pain comes back. What should i do?

One other thing that may have exacerbated the increase of Dry Eye in existing patients and some new ones was not being able to get supplies of their regular eye products and or medications for Dry Eye during the pandemic. Also not being able to visit Optometrists or Eye Specialists during the pandemic. That certainly wouldn’t have helped. And the longer certain conditions go on without treatment or adequate treatment the worse they can get. The longer they’ll take to get under control again. On top of all that the mere stress of the whole pandemic situation may have played a significant part in Dry Eye as well… 👀…..⚛️☮️🌏

After I had Covid and later the vaccine, I started having horrible dry eye. I’ve always had big eyes, but at my annual my doctor noticed that she thought they were bigger than usual. Fast forward- I had increased scleral show and both my upper and lower eyelids had retracted. My eyes no longer closed all the way. Over and over I’ve had thyroid tests because it sure sounds like thyroid, right? But all the numbers are normal. I think it was Covid related. I read a study that showed a link between the vaccine and Graves’ disease (albeit a rare side effect), but doctors have dismissed the thyroid idea altogether because my numbers are normal. I wonder if you’ve encountered anything about this in your research?

My eyes have returned back to normal after a few days of not wearing contacts. I was wearing Alcon's dailies Precision 1 lenses for about 7 days and the Dr. has ordered Daily Total 1 lenses for me to try.
