Volkswagen is doing pretty good with EVS. The problem is the EVs that they're making. Nobody wants that particular EV and what I'm speaking on is the VW van, the old school joint that they just redid and made it into a EV first. Foremost nobody's doing Vans anymore. It's just SUVs so I can see them not selling but they're Volkswagens SUV EV is selling very well

One of the biggest problems for the private individual as opposed to corporate purchaser is the massive depreciation EVs suffer if you are of modest means.
@iankuah86067 күн бұрын
Anyone of any means with a modicum of sense would not buy a car that depreciates that much that fast.

EVs are basically inferior to ICE vehicles for most people, plus initial expense, charging problems, expensive repairs, massive depreciations, short potential life span due to battery replacement cost, plus the devastation of the mining needed and the very fact that there simply is not enough supply of the essential minerals to actually make this happen lead any logical mind to realise that politicians are simply insane or moronic, or it is to destroy conventional vehicle manufacture by design with nothing to replace it... one might as well just throw your money down a hole in the ground.... however, if the 'free energy' inventions were released as power source, then all this massive waste of materials and needless pollution of making these ridiculous throw away items that will likely never recoup their environmental damage of manufacture will be redeemed and actually sensible... currently it is a pitiful sham being forced on people that simply don't want a product that takes more time and money to own and could burn you, family or house to death for your efforts.... sheer insanity until we have at least safe battery tech or even water cars which have been invented but stopped by the Fukushima debacle...

Piston Pundit keeps almost hitting on the primary issue. The Swiss are pointing out that EVs are a massive drain on the power grid. It's not just the Swiss, it's every country. The impact will be even greater in countries that are attempting to convert to renewable energy. There is no country generating sufficient energy to power a complete conversion from ICE to EV vehicles.

@@malcolmwolfgram7414That would be great, just had 10 days in the UK with zero sunshine, low wind speeds too, so still need 100% fossil/nuclear capability to plug the very frequent gaps, so why bother expensively duplicating capacity when only fossil/ nuclear is needed anyway? The only thing wind/ solar does is increase costs and carbon footprints.

Why does everyone make such a big deal out of all this? If an EV will work for you then great. Get one. See if you still like it after a few months or a year. If it doesn't fit your needs then don't get one. The government or any laws shouldnt be pushing them or requiring us to only purchase them by a certain date Let the people have a choice.
@japfourme3817 күн бұрын
Absolutely! One point though, if you do get one, be prepared for massive depreciation, there has been reports of 50% loss after 12 months of owning one!!
@richardbarry46637 күн бұрын
I agree with what you are saying. An EV does not fit me, my lifestyle and where I live so I will never get one. I live in Washington state and the governor and state legislature is trying to force us into one by 2035 and that is not going to happen. Idaho is a reasonable drive from here and I will go there that year to purchase a gas operated vehicle and tell the state government where they can shove their edicts.
@antontsau7 күн бұрын
Because of risks, costs and govt mandating. I do not want to pay increased insurance for our building and my van just because someone bought ev, and I need ICE for myself, for life and job, which govt wants to ban, restrict and tax.

People will have a choice. Just like people have a choice to use horse carts now like the Amish do. And about as many will use ICE vehicles later when all the benefits of mass disappear. What will price of gas be when less and less need to be shipped around ? How many gas stations are needed and how profitable will they be ? How many mechanics and car repairs will specialize for obsole tech ? All these laws people foam about will be totally redundant in the decade they are supposed to come in effect. EVs are already about price parity and new batteries are reducing price further and tech gets better every year. Some hobbyist will keep using ICE just as some people prefer vinyls for their music. Others will use EVs that are cheaper, more practical, can be charged at home overnight while also stabilizing power grid and other advantages as they become the norm. If anyone has any logical argument feel free to comment. Any insane emotional rants....I can just go hear my wife telling about her day.

@janiceperkins43407 күн бұрын
Of course not!! Many people will snub them until they get more efficient (you can run the heater without draining half your range) and still go as far as a gas car, charging time is as fast as refueling, public charging is as readily available as gas and with no extra fees, insurance cost are more in line with normal cars, tire wear is less, And it would help knowing what effect having a majority of electrics will have on the structural integrity of Bridges, Overpasses and Parking Structures!
@dirkhuman7607 күн бұрын
EVs are not 5% efficient if you don't leave out the sources. ICE are at least 25 to 50% efficient. A coal stove better than 80% Electricity is not a source of energy. Every EV has an exhaust pipe with terrible emissions. It just isn't on the car but sits somewhere else.

Most of Asia, South America and Africa love EVs. Clean clear air in polluted cities and helping to zero carbon emissions into the atmosphere far out weigh the arguments against them given above. Every month improvements in battery and construction of EVs is made. I Think this commentator is a dinosaur, exaggerating EV faults and virtually encouraging people to buy polluting ICE vehicles.
@ivojanssens2216 күн бұрын
Yes in cities it is a plus but don't call it "zero carbon emissions", it is not. There is only 1 atmosphere. The figures regarding CO2 in the atmosphere are known. Despite PV, wind and EV, CO2 in our atmosphere continues to rise. So it is definitely not the solution because we would have already seen the tipping point.
