Genuinely, a great piece of content that everyone should watch. Leaders, to improve and workers, to hold leaders accountable.

33:10 is a great question and a far better answer is available. For starters, NO ONE gives up control to the meeting leader…you are voting with your feet. If the meeting is useless, you can leave. In some cases it’s your responsibility to leave a bad meeting so you can get real work done. The best way for meeting attendees to influence how a meeting is run is to ask the meeting organizer “how would you like to get feedback on the way the meeting is run? “ This simple step introduces a way for you to provide it, and shines a light onhow the organizer would like it. Now you can be honest about what is working AND what isn’t working. If you are in the meeting ITS YOUR MEETING since you are responsible for your time!

RECAP OF VIDEO Facts •Half of meetings are late due to other meetings •Meetings are less productive if they are late or go past scheduled time •More meetings on one day will make you “feel” more drained and overwhelm •Wild African Dogs have meetings regarding moving hunting grounds. Approval was based on number of sneezes •Sit-Down and Stand-Up meetings achieve same decision making. Stand-Up meetings do it WAY faster Tips •As Organizer, be aware you are controlling somebody else’s time •Make 'em shorter, then even shorter •As Organizer act like a host: welcome everybody, make introductions, etc •Every meeting has mandatory and optional invitees. Not inviting optionals hurt their emotions and them being there frustrates them as they do not have to be there. Therefore, show them the minutes of the meeting and allow for them to input ideas beforehand, as well as allowing them to come to future meetings •TRY different stuff, don’t get stuck on the same meeting patterns: Walking meetings, different seating arrangements, etc •Periodically check in with your current attendees because it is a shared experience •Agenda to be a public contribution •Establish norms: At the beginning of the meeting say what you want to accomplish. •Ask ideas before meeting, use a google doc for this •Agenda: instead of listing topics, organize by questions to be answer •If meeting is over 8 people, get approval by a superior •For large updates meeting, give a time limit per person. At Twitter, they do it in silence •Don’t schedule meetings early morning or late evening Get the book here: goo.gle/2nspWKE

this is a really rich talk. I almost wish there was a feature like from soundcloud or coursera where you can stop the video and make a bookmark at a specific time and add your personal notes. people are already doing it below but I feel like it is a little cumbersome if you want to go back and review what you really thought were highlights.

There is a whole set of metaproblems that are unaddressed by this talk, and to be fair it is not the presenter's fault. However there are system design choices in an organisation that can lead to the elimination of meetings entirely (at least as they are generally considered).

Interesting -- Such as? Any examples or where one could learn more about elimination of meetings entirely... just can't even imagine this.

A far bigger meta issue is how people are sharing honest feedback about meetings and speaking up about what works and doesn’t. These aren’t technical or design issues…these are people performance issues
