I feel like Sydney from Survivor 41 would definitely make it on this list. She was in a very good position going into the merge but the hourglass twist paired with the plethora of advantages and idols floating around made her one of the only people able to safely receive votes in a 12 PERSON TRIBE.

The hourglass twist pisses me off so much, it goes against the absolute core element of Survivor. I'm happy Danny had the balls to speak up about it, even though I'm sure he's now on their "do not bring back" list because of it.
@elliejordan32332 жыл бұрын
I feel like the hourglass could’ve been done a lot better, like time would reverse and the two groups would be redrawn and then compete or something. The main issue with the hourglass though is how there’s no real reason not to do it other than fear your tribe mates will be upset. But either way people get upset, and one could help better your game, so you pick it. If there was a benefit to not breaking it or a downside for breaking it, I think it would be a lot better and more balanced. It was a cool concept, but it’s not balanced enough for it to be great.
@statsy1502 жыл бұрын
Honestly you can say this about the other hourglass eliminated player, Lydia: at the bottom of the merge tribe there were Romeo Chantelle and Tori, who all gain immunity even if Tori was the only one to actually win challenges that episode. Devon as well but I'm not 100% sure if he wins the F3 against Chrissy/Ryan, I think he does tho. Also not sure if Cirie wins that F3. Jonathan/Wanda was extremely unfair, rumor was they were gonna be the Guatemala returnees before Bobby Jon and Steph. But at least they didn't get screwed out of a practically lock for $1,000,000 like Ozzy and to a lesser extent Devon/Cirie. Bottle twist was also bullshit but production didn't want the seemingly inevitable fate of the whites dominating the game. I don't believe for a second Aitu would have to vote 2 of its 4 members out if they lost that challenge. Fake merge wasn't so bad because Shii Ann never wins in any scenario regardless, if she flips to Chuay Gahn they vote her out 6th.

@elijahculper55224 жыл бұрын
SeaStar It shouldn’t be possible to find a hidden idol every three days. The point of an idol is to buy a little time, or take out a big target; it shouldn’t be a viable strategy to find an idol every episode and coast to the end. When an idol is played, it should be removed from the game. It’s kind of ridiculous that production put as many idols in play as they did that season. And it wasn’t really that unreasonable for the cast to assume that eventually, production would stop hiding idols after one was played at so many consecutive tribal councils. In a regular season where the producers didn’t have such an obvious favorite, they wouldn’t have hidden another idol after Ben had them at two consecutive tribal councils. They shouldn’t have had to babysit Ben because there shouldn’t have been an idol for him to find in the first place.

Yep. 5. Yep. 4. The only reason I didn't put Silas on my list was because had he'd given T-Bird/Frank more respect pre-swap he would've stayed. Instead his cockiness from having control had his former tribe mates out him at the swap and turn the tribe against him. 3. Yep. They NEED to be on a second chance season to actually play. They should've been on Guatemala instead of Stephenie/Bobby Jon like the original plan was. 2. Yep. 1. Yep. So sad she was taken out like that. :( Please come back Michelle. We adored you.

Bored aaron did not get screwed. Silas did not get screwed. Silas would have lost tbird or frank anyway.
@yourdashingheroidol79094 жыл бұрын
In all fairness, as American psycho douchy as Silas was, he was kind of backed into that situation. Frank and the Dr. were the first ones to try and form an alliance of the older folks and include Silas, I assume for athleticism and events. Problem with that is Silas's point of view why would he join their alliance, when realistically if it came down to them he would be the first one gone as the older folks would vote him out. On the flip side you had the younger group running around like chickens with their heads cut off begging for leadership, and he can slide right into a cush lead position and when it came down to it convince whoever to dispose whoever at will! I believe that is why he chose to turn Frank in the doctor down inside with a young crowd. After that Frank in particular was really salty toward him but production completely glossed over that angle. After that I don't think it was Silas who really polarized besides against each other. The main person I blame for that is Lindsay! She threw her little tantrum threatening people after she received votes at tribal council she was constantly bickering complaining or crying while claiming to be a badass and just negative overall. I mentioned somewhere else what I think their biggest mistake was. What give me pictures enemies was the conversation right before they voted off that lady Linda I think her name was the kind of crazy one with the crazy eyes... all the older people wanted to know was who was being voted off and again Lindsay was the main antagonist telling them they couldn't know. then Silas was brainstorming and wanted everyone to vote one way for Lindsay so no one else would receive votes. Theresa asked "What's in it for us?" and Brandon answered " Nothing! ", Being totally catty. If they had just been reasonable and given the older folks the information they wanted, telling them who would be getting voted off, compromised and at least they would have still had a working relationship. instead they drew a line in the sand and were enemies way too early in the game when they still needed each other to function as a team.

Bonus: In terms of twists, I’ll add Jeff Varner to the list for both “Second Chance” and “Game Changers”. He was a power player in “Second Chance” who sealed Vytas and Shirin’s fate early on. But the early tribe swap put him in a bad spot afterwards. In “Game Changers”, the second tribe swap put him in the minority along with Sandra. They had to win challenges to avoid Tribal Council. They lost and we all know what happened afterwards.

Came literally the year after this video, but I think an honorable mention here should be the Do or Die twist. Essentially this twist forced players to pick between a chance at immunity. If you sat out from the challenge, no punishment. No immunity, but no punishment. If you played the challenge, and were the first one eliminated from the challenge, then you would be subjected to this awful twist. At tribal council, you would pick from 3 boxes. 2 boxes had a skull. If you picked a skull box, then you were eliminated from the game right then and there. If you picked correctly though, you got immunity right on the spot and couldn't be voted out. This twist only showed up in 41 and 42, did not reappear in 43 or 44 and will most likely not appear in 45 either. And while no one was actually eliminated through this twist, it's still messed up that after 20 years on TV with fans outwardly acknowledging they want to see eliminations based on skill and blindsides they would introduce this. I mean, they even got tired of all the emotional crap at final tribal council that saw good players lose for playing a great game that they stepped in and directed conversation towards the aspects of the game: Outwit, Outplay, Outlast. So how is getting eliminated through this twist any of those? Apparently, on 41, one of the players verbally lost it on Jeff when he introduced the twist claiming it wasn't fair. He was never subjected to it and lost it on him after the challenge. But it speaks for itself that fans wholeheartedly agreed since it hasn't been back yet and here's hoping it stays that way. Pretty sure it only appeared in 42 because filming for that season took place before 41 aired on TV so fan reaction wasn't around then. But it's not hard to see that it was going to be negative.
