When you burn that bamboo, wear your ear plugs! Each of the joints is sealed off and holds moisture. The walls can be 1/2" thick or more. When it heats up it blows very loudly. Will scare the crap out of you the first couple of times, yes voice of experience!

Bamboo - if you have access to a boom mounted saw , cut the bamboo a foot above ground level, pile up the stems, then you'll find the root stock easier to extract. Save it as there may be a market for it. When burning be prepared for the sound of a fireworks display. I live in an area where bamboo is used as an orchard wind break.
@magnoliascreens7469

First, a heads up for you Chris: When you start to burn that Bamboo, be prepared for it to sound like you're being overrun by bandits. There will be lots of whistling, pops and bangs as the canes heat up and, for lack of a better word, explode. The sections of cane that aren't busted when you rip them out, that is. Be sure to film it if you can, so others get to share in your excitement. Second: That Bamboo is tough, tough! It's the Rhizomes that keep it going and unless one digs all of them out, it'll come back; bigger, stronger and spread like mad. You can't burn it out, even burning clear down to dirt - those Rhizomes aren't phased. Pulling them out like you're doing and what you see as the tight balls of root system at the base of each cane, nothing has been done except making space for the next growing season... and those rhizomes are spreading out during the cooler months. Next growing season, that patch of Bamboo will be the height you found these within a month. The fastest growing "grass" known to exists. The land owner will find out, but you can warn them now if they're not aware: Do not let that area of ground go unclipped more than a week - two weeks tops!.!. Some of the variants of this stuff can grow up to 3 foot per day. It'll seem like overnight, that patch is 30 foot tall again. The stuff that grows in China / Asia, can reach 90 foot tall in less than 2 months... IIRC Too, commercial weed killer can/will only kill the existing canes that one sprays at the root ball/base, those nasty rhizomes will be largely unaffected. Yes, I'm still watching your content although I hardly comment any more. Love what you guys do and the way y'all do it. *waves at you and Uncle John*

Lol @Rolf Pedersen with each passing year, I have less and less desire to climb ladders any more. As we get older, we don't *bounce* off the ground like we use to. However, my most injurious ladder fall was off a 6' step ladder trying to *get away from it* during the fall. Cut up, bruised and sore as the dickens afterward. Over reaching did me in, in that incident.

Talking about the dirt getting mixed in. The way I've prevented that is to use a track loader to grub out all the small stuff or push it into piles with the loader after the trackhoe has taken it out. When pushing the piles after it's been grubbed out, keep the bucket up and at an angle forward using the teeth to flip and roll the piles. As you do it that way it keeps you from collecting more dirt and also gets most of the dirt out of the brush pile you're pushing. I've always used the trackhoe and track loader to clear with. The trackhoe to take out the big stuff and majority of everything and then grub and clean up with the loader. I've always done a lot of grinding the brush or burning it rather than hauling it away. We have to chip mostly because in my area you're too near other houses to burn safely and it cost way too much to haul it away. When you got to hand chip all the brush and limbs from trees it really helps not to have dirt in it. Same for burning. Bamboo or cane is terrible to clear. To keep it from returning you basically need to take off about a foot of dirt where its growing and replace it with clean dirt. Dig a hole in the corner of the property and use that dirt to replace the dirt you removed then put all the bamboo dirt in the hole but leave it down at least a foot, 2 foot is better; from the top of the hole to cover so it don't grow up there. Bamboo or cane is a pain in the ass to deal with. 👍

I had a three year battle with bamboo. We bought a house in 2014 that came with a bamboo "thicket" because years ago the previous owner thought it would be cool to plant a living privacy fence around a portion of the back yard. It took off in all directions spreading rhizomes to pop up somewhere as a new cane. And then the old man owner fell into poor health and was not able to attempt to control it. It had spread into the next door neighbor's yard and they were pizzed about it also and had been cutting at it without much success. I sprayed it with Glyphosate and let it wither before chopping it down. Then came the battle of attrition that took place over the next 3 years. 2 or 3 weeks after I sprayed the bamboo forest and macheted it down, there were thousands of bamboo shoots busting out all over the place, some as far away as 75 feet from where the main grove was situated. I would spray every shoot as soon as I identified it, sacrificing a little bit of lawn each time. By the time autumn rolled around my backyard looked like polka dot paradise. Spring of the second year and bamboo shoots activity resumed with warm weather. I hunted and killed bamboo shoots again and the population began to wane. Spring of the third year and there were still some bamboo shoots emerging, but there were few and far between. Only in the spring of the fourth year did it look like I had beat the bamboo. After we moved in I researched bamboo online to see what would kill it and I saw case after case of neighbors going to war with each other because one of them planted bamboo that went rogue and invaded the adjacent property and ended up in civil court.

I was in France at Monet's gardens, and they controlled bamboo with flowing water around it. So, surround it with the pond! The best way to deal with the bamboo is to cut it to the ground by hand and stack it up. Let it sit for as long as you can to dry out and then burn it. You just have to dig the roots out. This is why most bamboo is still harvested by hand today. The best mechanized method involves custom made power sheers.

I'm glad you finally got a chance to battle some bamboo. I have a large thicket of the stuff on my property that I'm slowly removing, and I always wondered if you had to handle it before. Like others have said, you got to dig deep and wide to get all the rhizomes out of the ground. My current favorite way to deal with it is use a Milwaukee Hackzall with an aggressive pruning blade and cut it as close to the ground as possible. Then I jump on the tractor with a brushhog and mulch it all up as best as I can (doing this keeps the "popping" and "exploding" at a minimum when burning), then burn it on top of the ground where I just cut it. The fire/heat seems to slow the root system down. Then you just have to stay on top of mowing or brushhogging the spot for a few years. Sometimes I spray the fresh "stumps" with a brush/stump killer and that seems to slow it down too. Good luck!

Bamboo sucks to get rid of. My older brother planted some in the backyard and my mother went crazy trying to get rid of the stuff. "You can either diligently kill bamboo plants as the plants reemerge or you can get rid of the bamboo by mowing it down frequently. If you opt to get rid of bamboo with chemical controls, as soon as you see new bamboo shoots emerge, spray them with the strongest herbicide you can buy."

The thing about bamboo- in spite of it's size, it's actually a grass. Which explains the root mat. The only success I've seen, pulling bamboo with equipment, I saw a fellow with a big front-end track loader dig under it, and kinda roll it up, like a rug. Short strokes, along the whole width of the patch. Still pretty tedious, and a huge mess to deal with.

After you rip the bamboo out start another burn pile on top of the spot where it was it might help kill that stuff

Thought I seen some bamboo growing when you did the drone flights earlier this year after you drained the swamp. Gonna be a pain in the butt to get rid of it if it's the creeping kind. Especially if you push it around with the dozer. Little pieces of the roots will sprout again. That said, would've loved to have a patch of bamboo like that to build stuff with it, like furniture.

Another great video Chris and hey man you see that bamboo that crap is hard to get rid of we have a lot of it down here in Southeast Louisiana and I know what you’re going through clearing it because it is aggravating as hell to clear but if you leave one4 inch little root in the ground it will sprout up and start growing again if you want something to make a privacy fence just plant you some of those little roots down inside your fence and in no time it will be so thick that you can’t see through it but anyway brother you and John and your family stay safe and keep the videos coming

The best way to get rid of bamboo is to cut and stack the stalks [makes good trellis poles or shrimp bait markers] and then did up ALL of the roots. Any you leave will grow back. Whoever cleared that place 25 years ago did a bad job. The dozer looks as if it is rolling up root carpet.

Bamboo is a grass and it grows very fast and many varieties spread and grow thick, that's why so many use them for building materials, they grow fast and replenish what you cut.. To keep them gone, you need to make sure to get all of the roots... You kinda declared war on that one pine, lol.. Progress or trees die!! LOL.. Loved the video. it was awesome.. Can't wait to see your video's of the "Meet & Greet"

It’s dry everywhere not a good year only reason i made money this year is I have pivots on my fields a couple guys out by me had some wheat that was getting 5-10 bushels per acre very sad. That looks like a big job but you got the know how and equipment to do it though. You ever cleared and leveled land for someone to turn into a farm field I know you do tons of ponds I'm sure some are for irrigation. I need one of them root rakes for my D8 anyways good job Chris nice video the bamboo was interesting something new that no one seems to like including you haha.
