Great story! I remember being at expo67. We got a passport when we arrived and each pavilion stamped is as if we had travelled through their country. My sister and I had our pictures taken in the astronauts seats that were on display in the American pavilion. It was a highlight of my young life.

Amazing! IM from Montreal, and the 1967 Expo is one of the main topics of my collection! I have a set of those Christmas parrots in my collection, but I didn't know about the story behind it! And I've read a LOT about everything surrounding the 1967 Expo. It was a very important event in our recent history, and was the beginning of our opening to the rest of the world. Montreal became a place renowned for the quality of it's cuisine and restaurants, and a lot of this is because the Expo had a lot of different ethnic restaurants and many of the chefs from these countries decided to stay after the Expo. Thus making our culture richer!

Very nice story. I can remember when I was 12 I knew an old lady who had a grey parrot. They learn quite fast and her husband (who was already dead) teached the parrot a lot of funny sentences and like you said colourful language. It was always funny to hear him when he started with his colourful language. I looked in my online catalogue and you are right: These are very cheap stamps. With this story they are more interesting and they look really nice.

That story is hilarious. I remember attending Expo 67 as a kid. But I didn't see Millie. Guess she had already been shipped home. What I remember is the Soviet exhibit. When you first entered, you were met with a bank of televisions and only about 1/3 of them were working. Great Soviet technology. The exhibition was also a good place to pick up stamps as just about every country had a post office to sell mint stamps. I picked up some Cuban stamps which were banned in the US at the time.
@ExploringStamps4 жыл бұрын
Thats sooo fascinating! I couldn't find much info about the Soviet pavilion in comparison to all the photos and footage I found of the US one. And interesting point about the Cuban stamps... I guess purchasing stamps as a collectable would have also been a violation of the embargo 🤔🤔. wow!! Thanks for sharing this!
@tad276124 жыл бұрын
@@ExploringStamps Stamps from Cuba were embargoed in the US at the time. I was a little nervous when crossing back into the US but they just waved us through. I also remember the 20-something-year old very attractive woman at the Cuba exhibition selling the stamps in military fatigues. Made quite an impression.

There was a song called, Millie the macaw from Guyana. The lyrics started out with, 🎶Millie the Macaw from Guyana, was close when a workman hit his finger with a hammer.🎶 Would love to know if there is a recording somewhere. We had one of those floppy 45 rpm records with that song. The flip side was B-A-R-B-A-D-O-S

Thank you.This video brings back beautiful memories.My family used to own the same colour macaw who literally flew into our house .The macaw’s feather suggest it was someone’s pet who escaped and it spoke a Chinese dialect common in our country.Unfortunately the words coming from the bird were vulgarities.As my family can’t stand the the macaw, we gave it away to someone who appreciates it.I guess my birds on stamp collections was inspired by that vulgar macaw.I don’t have that Guyana stamp in my collection as I am a bit suspicious of Guyana stamps especially those ‘issued’ during the 60’s-80’’s .This video inspired me to look for Millie’s stamp.🦜🦜
