THE SWEET: Andy Scott talks to The Rockpit

When you look back to the 1970's and the huge amount of talent in the charts and touring live, there are some that just were always head and shoulders over the rest. For me the 'golden three' I remember most as a very young kid were T-Rex, Slade and The Sweet. Of course as I grew older many more were added to that list, but it was the harder edge of The Sweet that I really loved about them, because behind the bubblegum hits there was a great hard rocking band! The more you listen to The Sweet the more you are drawn to the band compositions.
Over the years it's been great to catch up with Andy Scott on a semi-regular basis: he's wonderful to interview and always has a new story to tell. With The Sweet undertaking their Australian Farewell Tour later this year we had to chat again!

I first saw Sweet in Melbourne at Festival Hall in 1975. Later saw Andy and Mick’s version and later again saw Brian on what was his last trip to Australia. I’m now in Brisbane and will see Andy for the last time soon. A final goodbye to what was a great time in music. I’ll forever be one of The Six Teens ❤

i think my fav Sweet story was a story in a music mag in the mid '70's a journo went on tour with them in the US i think and he interviewed one of the band members backstage said we'll go into the room next door where it's a bit quieter...they sat down and next minute there's a bang..the interviewer looks around and there's a guitar neck hanging out of hole in the plasterboard wall..Andy sticks his head around the door and says ''Just trying to tune the fucker''..lol

They did Fox On The Run. That song is one of the first things I remember at 4 years old seeing it on Countdown. Loved it, used to go around the house singing it and my siblings would tease me for it for years after about how much I loved the song. Thanks man

I was part of the security for Sweet at the Villa Marina Isle of Man, circa 78. Great night. A few years later I wrestled at the same venue, happy days.

Your saying long hair doesn't work on older men? I agree, I have long hair and it doesn't work for me anymore at 57. I had long hair when long hair was no longer fashionable during early eighties, Chics no longer dated guys with hair. It was forbidden , NOT allowed to watch guys with long hair length'. But we knew many attractive women who thought for themselves (minds of their own) They liked guys who weren't typical. (Women liked assholes who played bands, who talked shit on other bands) MTV. MTV wanted to ban any hard rock metal band videos back in 1984. Preppy was in style. Feeble top 20 billboard music Bruce Springsteen. Pink Floyds dark side moon was still on billboard top 20) LMAO pink floyd. Laughin. Small town movies ,foot loose'.The difference is LA didn't give a f"*".Some Bands in LA were NOT done with (the sweet) image.. Sweets image started late sixties early 70s. By the time love is like oxygen 78 Sweet changed . (The band (Angel upgraded (Sweets image) during mid to late 70s. The'Sweet' was ahead of time. If you Google 'sweet' and open images' Early 'sweet' looks like KISS 'without' heavy KISS make up. (KISS's image was influenced by (sweet) and Alice cooper. But the The 80s forced metal underground. Eventually, later heavy rock came back. Late eighties with 'all stars' butt rock bands. Whitesnake, What is whitesnake? (Music for moms and dads listen too) Laughin. Local bands (joke bands) Poison Before Poison became success they played LA street fair. Everyone threw whisky bottles anything they could throw. Bret Michaels pointed at audiance (you're f*"*ing up MAN! Everyone unleashed, Fascinating, great experience. Watching poison trying to get off stage without getting smashed from cutty shark ,Kessler bottle. underground scene (bands who didn't play gazzaries on strip) Gun n roses were known junkies. Heroin addicts' People into classic crosseyed fried blues bands) the worst Faster pussycat Embarrassing
