My thoughts precisely. I'm hoping they'll go for US$350,00 to be really aggressive against Sony. As in, "you can get 2 of our systems for the price of 1 of Sony's!" Even if they lose money on each unit sold, they can easily make up the losses with 1 or 2 games (conjecture), and given how much the Switch 1 sold in terms of software per console, it looks like a more realistic approach this time around.

I'm prepping for a $500 price point. I honestly don't think that Sony's price was because they thought it would be amusing. Inflation is real. $300 in 2017 is the same as $387 now. If there's been basically any real increase in cost beyond inflation, a $400 price point may not be possible anymore. And this tech is expensive. We're not living in a world where every five years there's a night and day difference in graphics for the same price anymore. You've got to pay to see the difference.

299 is way too cheap unless nintendo is doing loss leader and they will probably not go digital only, for one, considering current psisical/digital ratio for nintendo. For context 299 now is cheaper then 2019 249 adjusted for inflation.

I don't see 300$ being unreasonable for the digital version since that's the price of the standard Switch that we have right now. I could see them marking down the standard Switch that's on the market now to 250$ and Switch OLED to 300$ once the new Switch rolls out. Obviously these are just my predictions and that's why it's fun to guess. Anyone can be right or wrong at this time but we can still have fun guessing. I'd love to know your thoughts on this matter.

@@EightBitGojira the main thing is that... the switch doesnt use discs, it uses carts. A cart slot is far cheaper then a disc slot (though carts themselces are moreso then discs) Furthormore considering the target demogralhic the cheaper version having no carts makes no sense. As a syetem for kids carts are better. As for the price after inflation 299 2017$ is 380 2024 dollars. That and the current semiconductor prices, *especially* nvidia's, means that i can even see a 449 price point though i doubt its going to be that high for the base model. Likely they'll sell an OG 399 LCD model next year and then sell a 499 OLED version the following holiday for supply chain reasons.

It won't be above 400 if they don't drastically change their marketing strategy. Nintendo can afford to make just tiny profit with consoles on launch as they will not lower the price. Nintendo has bad experiences with higher prices like 3DS launch. Their Switch made big profit per console years later. They need to get the foot in the door first. High price prevents that and the low price made it possible for families to have more than one Switch. They have created a winning strategy with the Switch so why change something ?

This console honestly needs to just perform at 1080p 60fps in handheld mode then 1440p 60fps docked and if it has some sort of super sampling then even better. Honestly that would be a great console and step up (but not a wild one) from the original. That would most likely warrant a 400-450 price point if the new switch is OLED as well but that would be worth it to me.

I don't think Nintendo will make two different price SKUs. They had a weird situation with this in the Wii U launch and people gobbled up the higher priced tier. They do not want a lower priced SKU (or an expensive SKU) that no one wants over the other to be collecting dust on the shelves.

I still can't see Nintendo going the multi-SKU approach as it only serves to confuse the audience and make it harder to produce units. I feel Nintendo is going to come in with one basic model that has upgradable storage to some degree and they'll just offer it in two colors at launch just like the Switch. One of the options will likely be very straight-forward and the other will be more flashy with color and then people can pick and choose between those two but it'll have almost zero input in manufacturing the devices as changing the color of the controllers is super easy by comparison.

The Switch 2 will not be able to push enough pixels to generate a 4k image and it won't have a DLSS, PSSR AI upscaler neither. Those things are exactly why the PS5 Pro is so expensive. The dock will simply upscale the 1080p signal to 4K like something as the mClassic or the 4K Gamer Pro can do. But it will have the same ray tracing capabilities as the PS5 Pro.

the nvidia t239 soc has native dlss capabilities though. why woul they leave a major feature on the table? it's exactly what developers need to be able to port their games to a nintendo platform. a reliable AI upscaling solution. with that we could see current gen games on the switch 2.
