Nintendo doesn't need to convince anyone. All of us around with a switch 1 have been waiting ages for a switch 2. We literally just want the same device, but better. Games are struggling too much on sweet old switch 1. Now throw in a must have game day 1, maybe the next Mario game, the next Mario kart game etc. And it's a done deal.

I might be able to buy arguments for Tears of the Kingdom given the size and scope of that game, but what do you mean about Mario Odyssey? Other than some aspects of the graphics maybe and some map loading optimizations that the programmers probably learned over the games after Sunshine, Odyssey not being possible on the GameCube would've likely been mainly a game design and philosophy limitation rather than a hardware one.

The world size, number of AI characters, load times. The current Switch has four gigs of ram. A GameCube had 24 *megabytes.* You could absolutely not run basically ANY Switch game on GameCube hardware.

I'm not saying a GameCube version of Odyssey would have all the same amount of entities loaded on the map or the same graphic fidelity or wouldn't need to employ some extra programming tricks and optimizations to deliver an Odyssey experience on the GameCube, but I'm saying _for Nintendo even with hardware limitations such an experience would have certainly been doable._ Specifically Odyssey. I doubt later games like Bowser's Fury (which I know is one HUGE map, but that's the whole experience) and TOTK would be able to undergo such corner-cutting and still retain the same core experience.

I get what he was trying to say though. He felt that Nintendo played it too safe with the Switch 2. A PS5 pro with the latest hardware won't fail to deliver and impress gamers. Microsoft and Sony always use the best hardware they can manage on their next gen consoles, and from the looks of it so far, the Switch 2 has improved hardware and expected design upgrades, similar to how Microsoft and Sony does it. He brought up the Gamecube because that was the last time Nintendo made a console the way Microsoft and Sony does. The difference is it's a hybrid console, and not a home console, this time. He probably feels like Nintendo might be going in the wrong direction by just adding, improving hardware and upgrading the design. He was likely hoping for a special aesthetic or gaming feature that Nintendo is known for surprising us with. With the information we have, it's an upgrade in hardware but if Nintendo only did what was discussed in the video, it's not very different to how Sony or Microsoft does it. He expressed how he wanted a dual screen gimmick for multitasking, which suggests he's concerned that sticking with the same hybrid Switch concept won't work as well this time. Nintendo could be playing it safe this time and without any bombshell surprises that they tend to implement, Nintendo is relying mostly on hardware additions and improvements, it's possible that this could result in people comparing the graphics and performance of the Switch 2 with a PS5 pro because it works in the same way as its predecessor. I also think it needs a little something that makes it unique as a console, but still a Switch successor. In any case, I'm not worried. We know a couple of unconfirmed leaks, we can't conclude anything from this. I agree with Matt and I don't think playing it TOO safe is the right call. Gamers know what it's like to play handheld consoles with comparable hardware as the Switch 2. I'm confident Nintendo will exceed expectations, this console doesn't feel like something Nintendo would be satisfied with, I have a good feeling this leak will lower our expectations, and Nintendo will end up delivering something mind blowing and different. This console doesn't feel like Nintendo, the specs may be correct, but it's way too predictable and lacks Nintendo's usual bangers.

In theory it's possible but it wouldn't be Nintendo doing it, Nvidia would have to create drivers to make comparability possible with an external GPU, you also have to consider game comparability after that because the games would need to run natively on both GPUs, meaning more development work because as of now no one's done it not even the latest snapdragon laptops have support for external GPUs.

If these leaks are real, The Switch 2 is rumored to be somewhere between the PS4 pro and XSX in terms of power WITHOUT DLSS. With DLSS enabled it can go much higher. So this is a massive upgrade since the original Switch wasn't even as strong as XBone. Which was even weaker than the base PS4.

I think matt is forgetting that for a large part of nintendo's console and handheld history has been incremental updates and improvements. Hardware is only a third of the story. Good marketing and appealing software is what will make or break the switch 2. The wii u failed because nintendo failed to sell people who owned a wii that the next iteration was a new product.

You wouldn't need to buy new joy-cons, it would already come with a pair. And if you have any Switch 1 joy-cons, you can perfectly fine use them wirelessly. As for charging, either use your original Switch or buy a seperate charger (which they either have planned or have recently released)

Personally I'm satisfied with the switch experience as it is. I don't really understand the need for it to be super powerful. The switch is always a light console that you can simply carry on your bag and play games with your friends without having to buy a another controller (cos it comes with 2 joycons). For me the measure in which you can judge a game console is simply the games it lets you play. If a light, portable console such as the switch can allow me to play a beautiful game such as BoTW or ToTK basically anywhere I want, then what else do I really need? Even after a lot of handheld PCs have come around, I still think that for portable gaming, the switch is still the best simply because of how well.... portable it is.

I dont really care about some hardwear changes more or less but I do care about the internals, the software, aka how powerful is it, what is battery life time, ect... but my biggest 3 things are. 1. Is it backwards compatible with switch 1 games or do I need to buy all new games for it, that is a HUGE factor if I buy this right away or not, 2. Can I use my Zelda TotK pro controller with the new switch 2 or not. and 3. Launch title or exclusives, TBH I never got into Mario or Metroid or Donkey Kong or whatever I only really use their consoles to play Zelda so unless the new switch 2 (thats what I'll call it till actual comformation) has a brand new 2D or 3D Zelda game at launch or later down it's life I will not be dishing out the cash for this (atleast at launch)....as much as I love Nintendo

Sometime close to the release of Labo (I don't remember if it was before or after), it was rumored or otherwise reported that Nintendo supposedly had a patent for some AR or VR technology method similar to Google Cardboard that Nintendo was intending on using to convert the Switch to a VR headset device somehow. The expectation from peeps who heard that was that Nintendo was either gonna release at least a Labo kit to play around with that like a tech demo or a full-on accessory that would then convert the screen to a headset and enable a VR-like experience on the Switch for future games. Nothing ever came from that.

I think that might be the reason why after YEARS since the switch was release (literally nearing the end of its lifespan), nintendo released a separate charging dock for the joycons, since the old joycons will probs still work with the new switch, you just wouldn't be able to charge it on the console itself

So there's a code on the visible PCB, X6, which denotes it as a manufacturing prototype from October 2023. The most recent one that was found in shipping manifests is Revision X8. So this isn't even the final design. That top USB-C port could be gone, and recent rumors state that the kickstand is now a U-shape like a handle while the one in those CAD mockups is basically identical to the OLED kickstand. The IR sensor appears to be gone on this prototype, and the release button on the back is now protruding from the trigger. The trigger itself still looks digital to me but someone else said there's just enough travel distance that it could be analog. Nintendo has had this obsession with digital triggers since the Wii. Power estimates out portable mode around the PS4, and docked mode above the PS4 Pro(shipping manifests show a third larger fan which would only fit in a dock.), but below Series S. But DLSS can close the gap, the Switch 2 has more RAM than the Series S, and while not as fast the 2100MB/s internal storage is just barely under the Series S 2400MB/s. And that's crucial. The cartridges are supposed to be 3D NAND which is faster and has a larger capacity, which goes with all the fast loading, and I would expect the external storage will be limited to Samsung's MicroSD Express cards which can do 800MB/s, far faster than standard MicroSDXC cards which can only do 100MB/s. It all works together. The SoC should also have some RT cores as well allowing some form of RT implementation. How much they'll be able to get out of it is up for debate.

I'm okay with Nintendo playing it safe for once. For every Switch or Wii they put out there's a Virtual Boy or WiiU. More innovation means more risk. There's also something to be said for the fact that the Switch was the last console Iwata ever worked on, and it saved Nintendo's ass. Why would anyone NOT expect them to build upon that foundation, furthermore even people at Nintendo have made it clear their being really careful to avoid a Wii U situation, they know better than anyone how important it is to nail this follow up. It's just not the time to think about some massive new innovation, you save that for if the Switch 2 succeeds because then you've got a consistent track record and can afford to take another crazy risk.

264gb is more than enough for the standard. I got a 128gb additional for my switch and after 5 years i still have to fill it up 😂 264gb is more then enough for nintendo. For playstation and xbox i get it might be small.

The switch 2 is coming - OK we got it. It would be more powerful and better games and backwards compatibility - OK that's great. My main concern is what about my existing library. Will it play Witcher 3 at higher resolution and higher fps??? If not I'm abandoning Nintendo for a pc handheld.

The guy on the right is definitely underestimating games like Animal Crossing! Nintendo makes so much bank of console sales from gamers who enjoy Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley! The fact is that Animal Crossing was one of the last biggest releases before the Covid shutdown (which was a smart move on Nintendo's part). Some gamers might not even find the need to upgrade to a newer console because those games don't require the hardware for it. 💯

The switch vs PS5 pro argument is not a good in the way Matt used it. The PS5 pro "features" were also used when the PS5 was announced and people are still waiting for them. So the argument that PS5 to PS5 pro has a big difference isn't there. It's actually the same for xbox. When you had the xbox one and the xbox one x, the difference wasn't massive, you could see it and almost feel it but it was minimal. I think it's the same for the switch and frankly, it be better than what PS and xbox are doing. I'm fan of the both but god, they used a lot of marketing for features, then removed all signs of said features that now the new console are supposed to have, and while Xbox hasn't said anything they will probably charge a stupid amount for their next console.

However I would consider the graphical jump from the current Nintendo Switch to say the PlayStation 5 to be a much less significant than the jump from N64 to Gamecube. And the Switch 2 will be a great deal less powerful than the base PS5. So yeah, really feels like a “Pro” model of the current Nintendo Switch all around 🤷‍♂️
