Fun stuff from one of the few Disney cartoon features from that era which was geared towards a boy audience (no princess, or maiden who longs to be one), and a fine film it is. Who could forget that crazy magical battle between Merlin and Mim, and his witty triumph over her. This movie has charm and also nice music from The Sherman Brothers. I understand that Wart was voiced by the director's son. I like "Higgitus Figgitus" where Merlin's belongings pack themselves .... oh, and the squirrel sequence, and also the fish/lake bit.

As a small boy watching Disney vhs I remember noticing a ton of similarities such as recycled scenes from the other Disney films. This includes Ector accidentally hitting Kay on the head recycled from 101 Dalmatians when Horace accidentally hits jasper on the head. Both characters clutch their head in pain saying “OW! OOH! in the same manner. Disney VHSs were probably what introduced my sisters and I to film elements.

Contrary to common belief, it is not the unknown that humans fear, but the answers we imagine or uncertainty. Sir Ector did not know what exact magic was being used so he assumed the worst case scenario or assumes that all magic is black magic.
