And they were talented for real, and their older brother Leon produced many albums for other artists. They had some good songs, this one, High School Dance, Hot Line. Lots of fun.

A friend just shared this with me! Too much fun seeing your REACTION to Boogie Fever! It’s definitely an ear worm! They sound like the Jacksons because the infamous Freddie Perrin who wrote so many of the Jackson’s hits also wrote Boogie Fever and Hot Line for The Sylvers! The oldest 4 siblings started out as The Little Angels and toured the world with Ray Charles in the early 60s. Their Creole mother, Shirley Mae Wyble Sylvers was a trained opera singer and played nothing but classical music in the house, while their father, Leon Frank Sylvers, grew up with the richness of the Memphis sound. Their voices were as real as their fros! The secret to the perfect fro… let someone else pat & shape it for you! If you’re looking in a mirror you’re not going to get that perfect sphere! On the question of who came first… they were really different yet similar and family friends! In 1976 when Boogie Fever was a #1.hit, The Sylvers opened for The Jacksons on tour! With the brothers & sisters on stage, and the Sylvers siblings are all fairly tall, along with the ridiculous afros…. they stole the crowd and the Jacksons couldn’t get the crowd back - so The Sylvers were sent home after the 2nd show. Their music stop getting played as widely and their manager sat on their contract and told anyone who let them on their stage that they would be sued. The Motown Machine was in full effect! Oldest brother Leon went on to write so many of the hits of the 80s with Solar Records. He produced music for Shalamar, The Whispers, Midnight Star, Janet Jackson, the list goes on! He also mentored so many great producers, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Teddy Riley, Pharrell Williams (Pharrell included Boogie Fever on his Despicable Me soundtrack). The Sylvers are a Super talented & loving family! 🙏🏾💜

The Sylvers sing five part harmonies. The Jackson 5 came out in 1968 the Sylvers debut album came out in 1971 but the older siblings had been performing since 1958. The oldest brother Leon Sylvers went on to produce hits for the Whispers, Shalamar, and Lakeside.
@ajogg3 жыл бұрын
The Sylvers were actually named a different band (made up of the older kids, they were from CA and were out in the mid 60s as The Little Angels), you can find appearances on mid 60s tv shows (before the Jackson 5). The father and wife divorced in the late 60s and they didn't have a group for a few years (when the Jackson 5 rose to popularity. They regrouped with the younger siblings and with their single mother's blessing recorded as The Sylvers in the early 70s, then had a couple huge hits in the mid 70s. Boogie Fever and Hotline and High School Dance were some of their biggest hits. Hotline was a great tune as well. For those big hits they were produced with a guy who produced the Jackson 5 as well. They did sound like them though. Loved this song, when it was out I thought it was the Jackson 5 until they said the name of the group.

This was a super hot track in 1976 when I was in college. The youngest member of the group, Foster Sylvers, recorded and had success as a solo artist as well. Yes, they were all brothers and sisters. There is a clip on KZbin (you have to search for it) of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvers appearing on the "You Bet Your Life" game show with host Groucho Marx. The oldest children (very young at that time in the 60's) appeared on the show. I met Foster a couple of years ago here in LA and you could not meet a nicer person. He was struggling a little bit at that time, but he was creating new music and looking for a new record company. I recall that some of the family members got together and performed at The Taste Of Soul event a couple of years ago (pre-Covid shutdown). It is held on Crenshaw Boulevard every October. I wish Foster all the best and hope the family is still able to perform when they can.
