After visiting the Louvre and seeing all the masterpieces in real life, its still Segantini's Evil Mothers that lingers. Im looking forward to part two of your introduction!

'Lingers' is a nice way to explain the intention of some of these Symbolist works. And Segantini has a lot of those kind of works which he painted somewhat 'out of focus' on purpose.

Thank you for creating this. There are a lot of paintings that I had never seen before. It seems to me that the movements were somewhat independently developed in different countries. Is that right?

Good question, and there are certainly groups who developed Symbolism in relative isolation (like the Vienna Secession with Klimt, or Munch, or the Polish artists). However, they were all inspired to some extent by the early Symbolist works and literature in France (which was still the center of the global art world).
