I think the ending is vague enough to be sad or happy. We don't know if Owen is going to act on what he sees inside himself. He has to pretend to be accepting of the status quo because we know the trap he is in can prevent him from escaping. He did attempt to escape after watching the final episode. Also, as long as he's alive, "there is still time" to escape.
@diddlingdoom3133
@diddlingdoom3133 5 ай бұрын
Oh it's not vague... It's a horror movie, Owen waited too long, got such little life to actually live now even if he does escape. Only living but tiny moments of your life and every breath is heavily wheezing. If that freak out wasn't enough motivation to escape, nothing will, yeah he's doomed.

@@diddlingdoom3133he may be doomed in the narrative sense but it’s a wake up call for the audience who may be struggling with the same paralysis as Owen. It would be too devestating

@@KayosHybrid Yeah. Drastic changes almost never happen when things are going well. It's when things start going wrong and falling apart that pushes you to make those changes. Wait for things to get better? Nuts to that, almost everyone waits for things to get worse to push you through the fire and out the other side.

Well it put across to this cis guy what the feeling of dysphoria must be like, the suffocation of it, the trouble of trying to process memory when your self image is at odds with your actual image, the fear of self erasure even if what is in the other side is beautiful and empowering. Brilliant stuff, moving and frightening.

The lighting was something that really captivated the moment everything was beautifully done. 40 year old man had nostalgic moment seeing the film. The downfall was how A24 advertised the movie. People went in thinking it was a traditional horror film (like myself). The theater I was in on opening day... people absolutely hated it. People were talking and complaining during the movie, and one big group walked out halfway through. And look at the user reviews... yikes. You pretty much need to know what it's about before you watch it, to really enjoy it and understand the symbolism. I really didn't like it, not knowing anything about it. But after watching videos like yours (after seeing the movie), I can now appreciate and enjoy it.

I HATE horror movies. But I was willing to give this one a try cause my cis friend said he liked it, plus our mutual transmasc friend liked it too. (I’m genderfluid btw) So my friend (the cis guy) watched it with me over a Discord call. However, being scared of horror movies, I did a tiny bit of research before going in. Found out 1. “It has trans symbolism” wasn’t just trans people looking too hard. It seems very blatantly obvious to me? I feel like it was up to interpretation, of course. But the implications seem to be pretty biased. 2. It wasn’t really horror. No slasher stuff. No murder. Some weird/disturbing depictions, yes. But mainly psychological terror. I watched the movie and quite enjoyed it!!! It messed with my brain, which I loved. Trying to put together broken pieces of a puzzle. I want to watch again to receive more hidden details and other things. After having a breather from the movie, I started putting together more pieces in the configuration of the puzzle I wanted it to be, creating my own plot like that I related to.

For a while, I was convinced that "The Pink Opaque" was real in Owen and Maddy's universe, and was miffed that the 'real' fight between the girls and Mr. Melancholy wasn't shown. But then I started realizing how crazy Maddy seemed when she came back, how we never got definitive PROOF that she and Owen were the girls' reincarnations, and how crazy Maddy looked when she insisted they kill themselves to get proof...and realized that Maddy might've just gone insane. But there is that ambiguity that maybe she was right, and Owen just walked out on returning to a real life and somewhere, his real self is choking to death in a grave. Insane stuff.
@twigwigsoso
@twigwigsoso 6 ай бұрын
to me maddy/tara is right in the universe of the movie, because of how we see owen end up- the inhaler and the ending chest ripped open being the biggest sign, owen in the universe is choking. But also metaphorically because tara accepted herself, and owen is closeting. Being closeted as a trans person kills you, slowly- you are basically someone who is trapped in the wrong body. i think it's important we think maddy/tara is crazy, because as an audience we are watching owen's pov and as a trans allegory it makes sense that someone so closeted would see someone being like "hey im trans, and i know you are trans too." i realized early on that something wasn't right about the world owen and maddy were in with the posters on the wall in the highschool, they are pleas from isabel's subconscious which reappear during the arcade scene with the "you are dying"

I Saw the TV Glow" is a mesmerizing journey from start to finish. The film's eerie atmosphere, crafted through subtle visual and auditory cues, immediately draws you into its dark, surreal world. The lead actor delivers a nuanced performance, capturing the character's descent into madness with heartbreaking precision. The narrative masterfully weaves psychological horror, sci-fi, and dark comedy, maintaining a perfect balance between genuine terror and absurdity. Visually stunning cinematography and an ethereal soundtrack enhance the film's otherworldly feel. It's a thought-provoking exploration of the human psyche, reality, and the power of media. But what truly sets this film apart is its emotional impact. I cried so much in the last act, overwhelmed by the raw emotion and intensity. "I Saw the TV Glow" is a must-watch for fans of psychological horror and anyone seeking a film that challenges and captivates.

This is undoubtedly a strange film. It's like the inverse of a Saturday night 90s teen drama (maybe closer to today's teen dramas). The idea that you can't tell if this is a dark satire of the same teen show they're watching or a modern sci-fi of a specific period in America (similar to Stranger Things) makes it so thought-provoking. You can't tell if it's in the characters' heads or if there are actually layered realities detailed by the Pink Opaque. It could be a better film, but watching it is a unique experience.

I think at first I didn’t like it because I’d had enough of reliving middle and high school depression and obsession, but going through I understood this melancholic trip from one vhs tape to the next to be normal throughout. I see the gender and sexual identity stuff now that you explain it with “burying a version of yourself but keeping the heart in storage because you know you’ll come back some day” and how the main character goes through a normal life in another world but is “dying” and is calling for help too late. It’s like you’re doing everything “right” but “this isn’t my home.” And shit just stafts passing by as you don’t even “realize you’re dying.” It’s incredibly depressing to think how much anguish you must go through to be yourself, otherwise living a husk of your life almost just watching yourself though a screen. The watch itself was disturbing and not fun. But the thoughtprovoking after the fact is fascinating. So in that regard, I think it succeeded.

To me, I thought this movie was about finding comfort/"a home" in a piece of media as a child, then not wanting to leave that home as you grow older. The female character wants to live vicariously through the show, and loses her sanity in the process (representative of drug use, do to refusing to grow up). The male character doesn't experience this in the same way, and eventually "grows out of it" (as shown in the scene where he rewatches the TV on a streaming platform, and realizes how much he's grown, and how disillusioned he was back when he watched it). But at the end, I think it represents him regretting not staying in that world/state, and realizing that life is really short. and he's spent it longing for/regretting the past. Overall, I think the message is a melancholy depiction of how our views on the media we love changes over time.

I don’t know how I’m supposed to react to this movie. I’m a trans man and I feel that emptiness that was supposed to be portayed but not like apathy to it. I can’t tell if I liked the movie or not. It was an art piece for sure but I just don’t know how to react.

This film left everything up for your own personal interpretation and maybe that's smart because people are just making this movie out to be whatever they want it to be and loving their own interpretation. The fact is, we don't know what the story even was (as the writer intended it to be) or what actually happened throughout and after the movie ended. We know nothing! =p Isn't that just lazy writing? Like: "We'll evoke emotions through colors and poetic dialogue but include no answers to anything that happens throughout the film!"

Still try to figure out, why would you modify your body apparence in order to accept yourself ? Why do you need to get the stereotipal apparence of a man if you feel like a man, and vice versa for trans women, can't we change society that you don't need heavy surgery and lifetime medication in order to feel accepted in the gender you decide to be ? Can a man with bear, hairs and deep voice be considered a woman if it's what he want ? I mean all i see is conformist pressure from society that decide what are the attributes of a man of a woman instead of anyone choose their own look. Please someone help me understand, why a trans person accept that society pressure of need to look like the gender you want to be.

we cant just change thousands of years of gender norms for every single person ever. if you are a man, why dont you wear dresses and grow long hair and paint your nails etc? a man can do these things, yes, and many do, but if you personally dont, then you are also guided by societal pressure deeply ingrained in you, like most people are, like trans people are

A completely unfocus mess of overdone themes blended with the inability of the writer's ability to make a coherent resolution of the film's many predictable and stereotypical story lines. Long vacant stares into the camera bundled with comicly monotone delivery of lines make this a horrifying experience to sit through. DO NOT WASTE your money. Wait for it stream so you have an escape route of this pretentious piece of amateur filmmaking.

This movie is the reason we need an LGBT rating for film. I don't want to watch this crap. Leave it for the community to enjoy. Thats not me and I don't want to be duped into thinking it isn't. Otherwise I as an audience member will be upset and bash the film more than it needs to.

A lot happened and it wasn't meandering and to me it didn't feel pretentious, it felt like someone carving me open. Just because you don't understand something or you don't get something does not make it bad. I don't say complex string theory is stupid because i don't get it
@UncleT525

@@twigwigsoso I understood the movie it was boring..I’m into slow movies and weird artsy films especially when I was in my teen years. This one did not have anything meaningful happened the whole movie. It was just a bunch characters being sad for no apparent reason and talking in monotone voice. It’s an a film that looks fantastic but relies on its quirky aesthetic and great cinematography to get by The lead characters are Sad because of what? They live in the suburbs and are not open to their sexuality wow what a nightmare. You don’t need metaphorical imagery depicting monsters and a false reality world if I don’t feel the emotion or I don’t feel scared…it has to feel authentic or convincing enough for me to care. Moonlight and Truman show did this way better , because events actually happened in the movie. The writers can’t be ambiguous whether if the tv show is real because that means the only two real humans in the world were the two leads, not really scary or interesting! eternal sunshine of the spotless mind is another artsy existential movie great film but events actually happen in the movie so it’s messages was felt. It was Also suspenseful. This movie had no suspense, no great moments, a weak plot, weak characters, weak writing just overall bad content wise
