To anyone on a budget, there's nothing wrong with using Chi-com surplus chest rigs before you can afford this level of gear. They hold AR, AK, M14, FAL, and G3 mags pretty snug while giving you space for medical equipment. Using com bloc equipment in the defense of freedom is equipment used the right way.

Good stuff Lucas. I was a Marine Corps infantryman from 1997-2008. It’s really cool to see how things have changed from the days of ALICE clips and canteen pouches to the stuff we have today. @@CommanderShizrecce, long hikes over challenging terrain, less weight.
@Magnus0311
@Magnus0311 Жыл бұрын
@@CommanderShiz The short answer is weight. But, as it is with everything, it’s about trade offs. I think it’s good to have both in your inventory. I can say from my own little slice of experience, weight sucks when you have to wear it and walk with it for long periods of time. When we did late night/early morning ambush patrols to catch IED teams, we would ditch our Point Blank flak jacket/plate carriers and just roll with chest rigs. I have an emotional bias towards minimalist/light weight kit just because I hated carrying so much weight all the time. At one point during my second deployment to Iraq, a Marine Corps Times journalist paid us a visit. He was writing an article on what kind of gear the grunts were wearing. They had us step on a scale with just our cammies on, then had us kit up like we were about to go on patrol and get on the scale again to see the weight difference. I was curious to see how much I was carrying because I never weighed it before. I was shocked to see that I was carrying 85lbs of kit everyday. No wonder I was tired all the time. To be fair, I was carrying 14 magazines in a Tactical Tailor chest rig at that time. Needless to say, I started shaving off everything I could after that.

This is something that could be utilized not only for personal use, but also with my SAR work in Civil Air Patrol. Often times with the amount of gear we need to carry for certain missions, I've found I need more space besides what I have available in either my 24hr or 72hr pack. It's nice to have items I regularly use in front of me and not buried in either of my packs. In addition, since we do not carry ammunition, those mag pouches look suitable for small GP pouches. I'll be sure to check this product out, thank you.

First of all, this is great. The middle buckle gives me an idea, what if you made a back strap that used both the middle and bottom buckles instead of potentially 2 separate straps. You could even make it molle compatible and it would give you space for even more pouches allowing you to scale up even further or a version that’s just a big flat strap impregnated with elastic. My philosophy is exactly like yours as far as taking an old idea and making it better. That's why I have purchased generic (inexpensive) gear and completely stripped it all down to the individual parts. Like my vest for example. After completely breaking it down, I rebuilt everything, replacing the parts I felt made it cheap and added better materials and put in components that I wanted, but it didn't come with. I did things like reinforcing the shoulder pad to reduce recoil from the shotgun, added slots for inserting plates around the sides of the abdomen, and numerous other bells and whistles that made it unique and perfect for all my needs. People would see my setup and attempt to ridicule me for my "thrift store" looking equipment, so I show them that in fact my gear is so much more than what it appears to be, but also far superior than what they have sunk a small fortune into. My next project is my plate carrier which literally just came in the mail, and is still in the packaging it was delivered in. My imagination is already in high gear.

Great addition to the rig market! On the topic of velcro and modularity of modern rigs, it'd be great to see a placard version of this without straps, side molle areas, or back strap. Some of us have our own harnesses or velcro-compatible expander wings, which would give us more options and cost savings. Would be cool to see a mesh backstrap that is the same width as 2 backstraps, with 4 buckles total. That way you reduce the snag hazard of 2 separate straps and it would be faster 2 dawn the rig since the 2 side buckles would be sewn in next to eachother on one wide strap. You'd need to add some adjustment to the ends of the straps for fitment, so a sizing chart would probably be necessary. I need to learn how to sew. These ideas would come to life. There's never enough time in the day to learn all the skills.... great rig, guys. I'll be grabbing one!

I've since picked up the ready rig, which I think is probably the very best for most civilians, but after putting it to use for a signal setup, I've found myself keeping an eye out for a product that could expand further. This looks like what I'm really after. When you're rocking 2 radios, a tablet computer, SWR stuff, a drone, a rasp pi server, and a bunch of batteries, the ready rig just isn't built that it can be that flexible. This new rig plus my pack gets me where I need to be when I'm playing FO.

I haven't seen the entire video yet but question: do you plan on making a standalone version of the magazine pouches that you've attached to the chest rig? Something I could fit to a plate carrier via molle webbing?

These are basically the older style crye double mag pouches. Flap styles very similar. Think you can find those around 40 bucks nowadays

Sick chest rig. Expandable mag pouches via a small zipper or buttons down the side of each pouch would be nice.

This is very cool, but what has frustrated me is that most chest rigs come with pre-sewn pouches. I think what you have done to make it as accommodating as possible is a great idea, but what I have thought would be cool is to make it more modular. Have hook velcro under the mag pouches and make it like a placard. They can run your standard sewn pouches that are multi purpose or create custom placards for each weapon they have. I have different placards for my PC, one for 308, Sig MPX and 5.56. That way you can have your fav mag pouches like EssTac that you can slap on the front. It gives the consumer the ability to use other products they like or are use to. A customer could buy a blank placard and add their own pouches (more expensive), but they could set up the center of the rig for weapon specific missions. It gives the user a lot more options. I love the civi radio pouches, that is much appreciated. I think the extra real estate on either side of the mag pouches is critical for adding all the things you mentioned. The only other idea I had was instead of just a flat cordura hook cover on the inside, have an optional padded cover. Something thin, but would make it more comfortable if you have to shoot from prone. It can also help absorb sweat and cool the operator. Similar to what you have on the radio pushes would be perfect. I have spent months and months researching chest rigs and they all have little features I like, but none have everything. Love the content and the support for us civi folks. This kit is A+, just wanted to share some of my thoughts since I have looked at so many rigs lately.

These detailed product videos both here on KZbin and on their website store are a sign of genius common sense marketing, especially combined with the high quality of their products. No wonder they have been so successful. Hardly anyone else in marketing has the plain common sense to do this. I like that they have detailed videos of the their products on KZbin like this one, AND the webpage for each product on their website store has a video of that product, like this one. It makes it so much easier to decide what to buy. It keeps me from having to go through the time consuming and expensive process of buying something just to see if it's right for me, then send it back if it's not. With their competitors, you have to search through product specification descriptions on their websites, most of which are usually extremely lacking, plus you have to come here to KZbin to see if anyone else has done a detailed review.

Having the ability to carry a full fighting load of 6x 30-round magazines, an IFAK, a Radio, and a GP pouch(for either canteen or nods or snacks, etc.) plus a pistol in a single chest rig is pretty awesome. The Army should replace the TAPS with these
