You can thank Mrs. Talia Coppola Shire for that smooth bridge in this version. The flim makers wanted David Shire to catch the hardcore rhythm of NYC and he nailed it. Talia convinced him into also catching the smooth jazzy side of the city as well. Kudos to the Shires*

Plus they needed more music because it would have ended before the credits were finished and they couldn't speed them up any more.

It's even more than that. It's the mechanical, grinding, wheels-turning basis of the music, as if Mr. Shire was vocalizing what a train would sound like converted to music. Great, great, great.

This film is extremely underrated. Robert Shaw and Martin Balsam really kept it grounded; while Walter Matthau added humor. Hope this comes out in blu-ray soon. Spoilers: I remember rooting for Balsam's character (I forgot his code name) to get away with all that money till that cold gave him away.

Much as I loved Denzel Washington in the remake, the original’s ending (as noted here) is priceless. Walter Matthau’s expression says more in the final five seconds than five minutes of anything else could have.
@kendallrivers11192 жыл бұрын
I'm the biggest Denzel fan but Walter Matthau got to be more of a badass in this movie. I actually always liked the 2009 remake even though it definitely doesn't match the original. The biggest mistake the remake made was not using an updated version of this amazing score for the film instead of the generic music they ended up using. They missed a golden opportunity to pay great respect and homage to the original classic perhaps gaining respect from fans of the original too.
@SaintVodou2 жыл бұрын
@@kendallrivers1119 I had to reply when I saw that you mentioned the score. How could I have left it out, as that theme must be one of the 20 best movie themes in existence? As you said, it was just begging for inclusion in the remake. Denzel deserved nothing less…
@kendallrivers11192 жыл бұрын
@@SaintVodou I would've liked to have seen the reactions in the theaters in they had used that iconic theme in the opening of the 2009 remake. Would've definitely blown some minds lol.

@tacitusthehistories54174 жыл бұрын
It's tough to make a re-make. Especially when the original was so good. Classic. John Travolta is a great entertainer but as an actor he can't hold a candle to classically trained Robert Shaw. RS never gave a bad performance, 100% intensity. All support cast were all intense. Hostages, terrorist & police/politicians. However the very top of the picture is the movie sound track. Big loss for the remake was not reusing the sound track from the first. How can you do a better job than the original. The definition of 'Hubris'.
