There was an episode of Freddy's Nightmares where he takes on the persona of this creepy (ghost?) mime, and one scene features him creeping around neighborhood yards from the sides of houses and staring at the main characters-- maybe they got it from that.

Fantastic episode! I totally forgot about ‘Are you afraid of the dark?’. So nostalgic. ‘Are you afraid of the dark?’ Could be so creepy but also had that colourful 90s campiness that gave it a lot of charm.

The "Are You Afraid of the Dark" episodes that scared me were: "Tale of the Forever Game", because of that face in the tree. "Tale of the Dark Music", because of the evil skeleton. And, "Tale of Bigfoot Ridge", because I had nightmares about the Umbra for a week!
