Where's the kernel of truth behind this legend? What might have really happened to those children? What you recounted is the legend that sprang up around the loss of the children - that's not history, but there's likely historical fact underneath the legend. Sorry dude, you should have dug deeper on this one.

It is an old legend, now a children's story. As stated a legend from Hamlin. How can there be evidence today of something that old? Not much was written down in a ledger, generally only Churches maybe or a family bible.
