This story is a testament to the fact that parents should be really close to their kids. I'm not talking about "hello baby, have you done your homework, did you sleep well" I mean really earn their trust that they can tell you their deep secrets. Otherwise some idiots will earn their trust and fuck them up with their sick, disgusting bullshit

I see comments asking why they show the abuse. Why not??Putting a band-aid over the HARSH truth and/or censoring the abuse is WHY the abuse still takes place w/o notice.Yes it's hard to watch but needs to be shown. I''m glad this movie shed light on what is often swept under the rug. Predators are REAL AND UNLESS we're brutally honest about abuse (ALL ABUSE) it will continue to happen

There's a lot of people commenting on something that they know nothing about. It's very interesting and ridiculous all at the same time. I was sexually abused at the age of five by a family member who was to care for me. Someone deeply trusted at the time. I'm in psychotherapy now but a great self aware person and Mother to a now three year old daughter. She's a healthy and happy child where I do well in not being overbearing with her. If anyone cares to hear someone's feelings on movies like these who has gone through "soul murder" (as they call a child who has been sexually abused) I used to find it quite painfully triggering and even damaging to watch but lately I've been strengthening myself to watch these types of movies and scenes to not let fear control me or the triggers. It has also helped me remember I'm not the only one and I'm not alone and that other's and their pain should be seen and heard. It's been such a taboo silent crime and it really does need to be seen graphically so people who haven't gone through this knows what horror the victims experience. I'm not just talking about this film of course. I mean rape scenes of all kinds. You can fast forward it if it's really something you don't want to see but the victims didn't get to just "fast forward" and "skip" the attack on them...if you can't even watch it then imagine how they feel and felt...much worse than you did watching it. That's the point. That's the least you could do is just be aware and support those people by hearing their stories or movies and not sheltering yourself and your children about rape and pedophiles. They need to know and so do you. Everyone needs to see the signs and know what they went through to either prevent, protect, or help heal victims they know and love. Maybe all those things combined. I'm not saying all victims can handle watching that or ever will but I'm saying it helped me eventually but when I was only ready to keep my eyes open and continue the movie. I was able to still see the movie as a good movie to have stirred up such emotion in me because that's what they set out to do. To make it realistic and moving and even upsetting. I have grown to see things in depth and that not everything is black and white. It's not just a good or bad movie. There can be an in between. Please stop saying people who have been abused and share their stories of being hurt by a pedophile are sick individuals. It's from their child perspective and children trusted that person so they're not going to be completely demonized by that victim. Especially if it was a family member. You can still love that person but be very self aware of the danger of them and be mad at them all at the same time. It's human to have more than one emotion all at the same time. It's not giving them an excuse at all. It's simply sharing the dynamic and the struggle of one's ability to tell. My hugest point is that people not victims of this crime really need to stop acting like they're in so much pain watching it or that it's disgusting in such a way it shouldn't be shown. It's insulting to the actual victims who suffered. You did not suffer that hell. You are trying to silence the victims and that's a crime in itself and one I personally cannot stand for. To the people that support the movie I thank you for being open minded and seeing the message.

I'm so sorry. I am the partner of a man who was abused by his priest whom his parents continually invited over for dinner. Now that he has a child (with a woman who is highly manipulative and just plain mean) and he has no control over his own son, he is terrified of the same thing happening to his son. It is triggering all his memories. I don't know how to help him. I hate the evil of people who commit this soul damage.
@sumrsolo
@sumrsolo 6 жыл бұрын
@@shaunaevans755 I'm so sorry for his pain and your pain for him as you watch him in pain. I appreciate your sharing his story and I am so glad he has you because you sound like you're supportive and care so much about him. You may not be able to heal him but you just being there beside him on his journey through his own personal hell is all that abuse survivors really want from their lovers and then they can be there during the victory of their thriving instead of just surviving. It's about all the people who wouldn't stay or came into our lives and hurt us to only leave us damaged. To have someone love you and stick by you when you're so damaged and such a mess is sadly so rare. That's what everyone wants...to be accepted no matter what...flaws and all. Especially the flaws on you that you didn't choose. Please take care. Just walk alongside of him and be willing to hear it all because he went through it and remembers it so why can't others handle it and hear it? One should not suffer alone just because it was done to only them. My ex used to not want to hear the horror of my abuse and said that was for the professionals only to hear. He couldn't share in my pain and hear me and my story fully. But I had to know my story and my pain and I was the one who went through it. I found myself sparing him...but why? It wasn't fair or very supportive. On top of that me wanting to repeat to him what happened to me was sick to him and he said I was perverted for it. I'm glad I found a man who walks with me and feels it's something to learn from like I'm fascinating. He sees me as highly self aware and even more intelligent because of my experience with such darkness. I promise that it's enough to just listen and be there. Some people can't even do simply that.

People talking about this movie need to go and watch this memoir and understand her motive behind making it. Many people don't understand what goes on under the surface. She, herself, refused to be tagged as a victim because is a very common term while abuse surviver is completely different. Abuse is where feelings are manipulated, it's easy to manipulate a child because children are innocent. That makes this whole thing very confusing and frustrating. Only a person who's gone through this can understand the trauma and frustration.

I completely agree. Sometimes the mind also mix things to not suffer. Deep inside "the brain" / the mind knows that if is not a romantic thing, it will be a catastrophe. A lot of emocional pain etc So, can be it as well. A lot of therapy is necessary in any situation.

i think the crew has done a wonderful job because this hits home. people who faced sexual abuse or at least felt like they had fantasies or just dodged a bullet during their childhood will relate to this film very deeply. i couldn't help but cry like a baby by the end of this film because i related myself to this at a very deep level. i faced it too and i had neglectful and annoying parents who never really took the time to talk about this kind of stuff because it was never a part of our culture. sometimes i even think a few of my close relatives were perpetrators including one of my parents. so i grew up a hermit, a allow, social outcast, trying to match up with my egocentric stupid adult self and my childhood innocence. since a very young age i became self aware and still i faced molestation. it's sad how girls are told to were more clothes while men are free to do anything they want. ones liberty comes at the cost of ones sacrifice that's what i had always been told and it irks me to this day. it's where our mothers fail, the system fails, our relatives fail, our society fails and even some of our schools fail to teach and protect us. my parents always feign ignorance whenever i have to talk about depressing topics. they never had the time for me. truth be told sexual abuse and pedofilia is real irrespective of culture, creed, skin, country, religion. the only difference is how we perceive it or not. horror is subjective. some people will give a meh reaction to this film which i don't blame cause they'll never know what it feels like to be so scared from a very very young age. they don't know the trauma that the victim faces and what it does to their social life, being broken from a young age is very tough. i hope they never have to face abuse in their adult life either but i want them to learn a lesson and help kids in need by calling the right authority or child helpline in case they know someone who's a victim of pedofilia. why be a fking bystander when you could be a hero?

The woman itself is so broken from her past she just let herself go down with depravity. Jenny was waiting for Mrs.G to save her but she didn't know she was the culprit all this those time. Maybe i understood the movie wrong but this was the most shaking moment for me.

This is an incredible film. Elizabeth Debicki and Laura Dern in a movie together was always going to be out of this world and yet it still somehow managed to surpass my expectations... It's a long film and very uncomfortable at times. Some people would probably call it slow, especially the first part, but I was glued to the screen especially because of the stunning narrative and Dern's way of drawing me in. It has amazing actresses left and right. It leaves time for reflection. Yet never a boring moment.

Parents, just tell them the dangers. I'd also like to know what kind of parents allowed their child actress to perform this scene? I'm not usually one for censorship but this film went too far, respectfully.

The sexual scenes wer not performed by the young girl, but by an adult actress. Watch it carefully, you can see this. To me, in this film, one really feels the disgust, the horror of what the child experiences and understands the perversity of the abuser. Just suggesting would be too mild.

@@gevanpoold7852 I get it. The message is that our children are being sexualized and it brings awareness.

Granted the movie makes it clear that she was molested as a young girl. It has the effect that it is numbing you. I cannot even come to fathom the effects of a young girl or boy when such a thing happens to them. No matter what, I still see it as normalizing it. While you may see it as an education format I see it as a demented format.

You are lucky that you missed that experience in childhood and can see the movie as normalizing rather than normal. The abuse of children is demented. Bringing it out into the open makes it more difficult for abusers to operate.

I knew a man, very well off who had been raped by his older brother. This is some serious s***, thank God you never had to live through something like this.

So, you'd rather victims remain silent? Why do you resent victims exposing abuse? That says quite a bit about you.
