"The Talk of the Town'' was the second film in a three-picture deal director George Stevens worked out with Columbia Pictures. The first film was ''Penny Serenad,'' a weepy melodrama with Irene Dunne and Cary Grant. The last was ''The More the Merrier,'' a sublime comedy with Jean Arthur, Joel McCrea and in his Oscar-winning role, Charles Coburn. All three films became classics.
