The Model 24 is amazing. I had the Zoom L-20 but just wasn't happy with it. Glad I got the Tascam. Much cleaner sound, 100mm faders, more channels, Bluetooth channel, and clean recording. I also like the FX pretty well too. I used to record all of my songs with a controller and keyboard but that kills my musical drive and creativity, at least these days. Plus, I've made a return to analog instruments, namely acoustic guitar. There's nothing like recording guitar with vocals to a drum track and then laying down some sweet bass over that, and then some screaming electric guitar solos. It's my new favorite way to compose music.

Love it! ...and the price isn't terrible at $999. Someone commented in the chat that unlimited takes in a DAW is hard to beat. That's true. You can have unlimited takes using this. Just move the track over to your computer and free up the track on the TASCAM. You could also record over on any free track and just save the best take to your DAW. Personally, Id run everything through analog anyway before it went to the box. If youre recording pure digital, youre missing out. Analog sound is much better.

@@facksvillain2296 Yeah you can do that. This way your inspiration is unmitigated. Then just bring the SD Card to your PC, download the tracks, bring them into your DAW. Set your BPM to match what you recorded and you're in business.

Just bought one as the center of my home studio. Simple, easy to use ,and no NO computer required. Of course eventually I will mix down to DAW but I can avoid that as long as possible. The overdubbing is GREAT!!! Exactly what I need to create demo recordings of my own stuff!!!

I just picked one of these up today. I got the 24 DP, and never got the hang of recording drum tracks, let alone doing covers......I got GC to take it back, as I was told it could be used as an interface (it can't). I'm psyched to have this. I picked up Abelton, and look forward to learning to start making pro quality drum tracks.

The tascam model 16 and 24 looks like a very good all in one mixer/recording device. I would like a 10 or 12 channel version, but the 16 might be just small enough for me. presonus and zoom have competing products, the tascam looks much better for me.

Dear sirs, Thank you for another great TASCAM product. My father is a musician and I had seen and worked on many of your products since I was a kid; big analog mixers, 8 and 16 reel to reel machines, even the 4 channel one with the cassette. I love the concept for Model 24. The only thing that makes me think whether should I buy it, is the phantom power. If I understood correctly, If I would to record multi-track drums with 3 condensers (two over-heads and a mono room) and 7 dynamic mics (kick, snare, toms), that wouldn’t be possible. Is there a way to overcome this problem? The only thing I can think of is Cloudfilter. I also think it would be great if each channel had its own phantom power switch, even if it makes a unit a bit more expensive. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for this issue. Joe Stopka bought a Model 24 over here in Melbourne Australia. Very happy so far especially considering the amount of applications which will translate into its usage (live, studio, rehearsal). Being able to record 16+ channels of each song in rehearsals then overdub extra parts for eventual studio demos or releases is so beneficial to us when up until now we’ve been using a 2 channel interface into a DAW. Not to mention having an SD card with a DAW backup (or vice versa) is a great way to safely manage recording that killer take. It’s ease and portability make it ideal for using it as a mixing console while recording artists live. In fact, we have used the Model 24 in conjunction with multi-camera setups as a selling point to land some support slots with better headline acts wanting live AV recordings. All I can say is thank you very much for your work. We love the unit so much! Cheers!

Can you record the individual channels with EQ to the DAW? I want to bring the tracks to the mixer from the DAW and record back to the DAW with the EQ from the Model 24.

Just plugged in my headphones into the model 24 and find the headphone output very noisy. Is this normal? My cheap Yamaha mg06 and Mackie mixers are very quite though the headphone jack...

Hi Joe. I enjoy your walk-thrus but could use some more "how-to" (certainly none in the manual). I've listened repeatedly and about this mixing which happens whenever you record : how do you get to the playback?? ... This new way of bouncing : Applying* such & such tracks to SUB then patching SUB** outs to, say, 23/24... ... *How do you know if they've been "applied"? ... ... ** Again, the matter of playback. I learned to mix & master with no problem on my Tascam 8 track portastudio. Though I'm sure I'll eventually do great things on it, I am REALLY struggling on this Model 24.

What demon rode Tascam to make Phantom Power on/off global? That single issue makes this otherwise brilliant unit utterly useless for anyone who uses a mix of different microphones. And it took some digging through written reviews to find that. I can't imagine the lot of Model 24 buyers who only find out after they ordered one, that they can't use it with their band, unless they replace half of their microphones!! And if they are like me, I don't want to change anything about my microphones, they'll have to send it back or buy a battery of external phantom power units - what kind of crap is that....

@@kingkrollinvention That's because typically condenser mics are the ones that require phantom power to function properly. The drawback with a global phantom power switch is that other types of mics, like some dynamic and specially ribbon mics, could be severely damaged if you apply that much voltage to them. While that is true, it is also a fact that some other dynamic mics simply reject phantom power when receiving it and still work normally. Since in a recording environment it is very common to mix various types of mics for various reasons, the ability to control voltage individually on each channel would be a nice addition to this model. If I am not mistaken, the Zoom Livetrak L20 is a similar model, with a few differences when compared to the Tascam Model 24, that is capable of switching phantom power individually to the desired channels. (Edit) just to clarify: You either have phantom power completely off or completely on with this unit.

I have the Tascam 8 Track Portastudio and learned to use it BECAUSE--- there are explicit instructions. I've had much trouble learning the Tascam Model 24 since there ae virtually no instructions*. Aside from this my screen is stuck on "TASCAM Model 24". I was told the firmware needed updated and was sent a link with instructions how to fix. This tells you push menu, go to info, etc. But the screen is stuck. I had another phone conversation and was told to put my card in my computer, open a zip file..I see nothing about a zip file or how to do this just with the card. I have had this Model 24 since Thanksgiving and done little with it considering the trouble I've had. *I pointed this out to a Tascam staff and basically the reply was, "eh well yeah..."

Is it one effect for the entire mix or can I add an individual effect per channel?

Donte, it's one global effect that you choose that can apply to every track, using the fx send knob. You choose how much of each individual signal to send to the master fx knob. There are 2 inserts on 1 and 2 that allow for an additional outboard input that will only effect those two tracks respectively. Also, there are 3 AUX sends that will allow you to add more outboard effects in whatever way you can think. (Mon1-Mon2-FX) Hope this helps. I just picked one of these bad boys up and new to the analog gear realm so figuring it out myself!

This is basically a live mixer with a record function built in. My Tascam DP32 allows me to song build for half the price. If you only want to record live sessions, this is great. But without the ability to record drums then come back in an hour or two and record guitar, it's overpriced in 2019. Why only simultaneous multitracking for a grand? Where's the love for dawless creators on this product? I'm not paying for just aesthetics. I wish my DP32 looked this cool!

I also have the DP-32. I wish it had the dedicated EQ controls for each track like on this Model 24. The Model 24 is a multitrack recorder. You can repeatedly record and layer tracks and build songs, just like on the DP-32.
