This movie sucked me into the most enchanting atmosphere, encompassing my eyes to appreciate the art of gastronomy, cinema, and subtle acting until it moved me to tears at the sight of a dessert. The type of love story that is SO pure, so generous and so beautiful that it makes you feel hopeful. Beautiful ending too. Juliette Binoche is the Ultime dame of French cinema. My God, need to see it again to wash my eyes from the evils of today's world.

To sit there entranced, betwitched and emotional for 2.5 hrs without realising where the time went is quite unique. The best film I have ever seen and I came out in tears. The acting was so natural and beautiful, the cast wonderful, the setting sublime. We are cooks and could move into that kitchen. Yes and you are so right, no music til the end.

I saw this last night. I absolutely loved it. It's a beautiful, gentle, subtle masterpiece. No giant sandworms making a ton of noise and nonsense. It's a movie about the power of love and the grace of being alive and the moments we get to share that make life magical and worth living. 10/10. Highly recommend.

I'm not sure I would consider him one of the best directors since the films he made after his "Vietnam Trilogy" were not successful or well-received critically so he fell of the cinema map I think for a bit. I hope this new film brings more interest in his directing.

I just heard of this on NPR - it looks amazing. I just love Juliette Binoche. Apparently, no food-artists were used on this movie. The director, a Chinese guy, worked closely with a French master to create foods that were shot in their natural forms, and that would look as they would in the 1800s - imperfect vegetables with the occasional spots, etc. All food shots are natural. I can't wait to watch this.

caught the matinee on a holiday in my hick town and of course I was the only one in the theater but I enjoyed this film and the food and the sounds of food being consumed and enjoyed were a delight, Binoche of course doesn't fail to deliver I've loved her in everything I've seen her in. Was hoping I'd bump into at least one girl who might have shared my love for French films and cuisine and then get her number and make her wonder about me as I took off on my motorcycle afterward :p

The title isn't just referring to the food. Yes, food. Humans and animals eat other animals for food. Even herbivores eat smaller creatures, though their main source of food is plants. Plants release chemicals to attract predators to eat the herbivores because plants want to live too. Living things eat other living things to live. Deal with reality.
