Not their best rendition of Fire In The Head, but still good. Psychopomp off that same live show is fantastic.

I don’t know much about theory but TTP is known for Eastern tunings on Western instruments and, as mentioned in other comments, they also play dozens of exotic instruments- sitar, sarod, hurdy gurdy, santur, djembe, doumbek, esraj, harmonium, harp guitar, mellotron, etc. They readily admit they’re not experts in playing the exotics, but they know how to incorporate them into their sound and they’ve traveled all over the globe and played with indigenous musicians to gain insight into the instruments and scales and melodies and theory that comprise ‘world’ music. It’s difficult to get a handle on many of their songs too because they play many of them differently. This version is faithful to the original recording, but it’s quite a bit slower- especially the intro. The original song also has mellotron, acoustic guitar, bells, etc. They’ve played this song heavier & faster, fully acoustic, etc. Back in the 90s, they did a tour called Acoustic & Eclectic where they’d bring out different exotic instruments and talk about them, then play one of their songs using those instruments, then another round of instruments and discussion and another song, etc. They can play full-on seventies style rock shows, electronica/industrial influenced shows from their Transmission album era, full acoustic shows, full exotic instrument shows, etc. They truly are Canada’s Led Zeppelin. They’re also known for slipping a few verses of cover songs into their live songs- Jeff Buckley, Tool, Killing Joke, Joy Division, Bowie, Zep, U2, Daniel Lanois, Stones, Beatles, Tragically Hip. In my opinion, their first three records- Splendor Solis, The Edges of Twilight, Transmission are absolutely fantastic from beginning to end. They opened for Zep on the Canadian leg of their 90s tour(UnLedded maybe?) and are friends with Robert & Jimmy. Roy Harper is actually the Godfather of singer Jeff Martin’s son, Django. Roy Harper also sings the song Time, which is on TTP’s 1996 EP called Alhambra. Alhambra has some alternate versions of songs from The Edges of Twilight- full exotic instrument version of The Bazaar and Inanna, an acoustic bluesy slide version of Turn the Lamp Down Low, Sister Awake remix by Rhys Fulber from industrial band Frontline Assembly, etc. Definitely some very interesting details.

When this song dropped in ‘95, I was obsessed. I loved their first album, the fact they were Canadian and that they were doing something different than the rest of the “alternative” pack.

When I was a kid my brother was a teen in the early 90s. I remember going to his room to put this cd in his cd player and listening to this song over and over.

Fire in the Head is not their best live track, ..good radio track but LIVE ...their tracks, The River, Psychopomp, The Ocean at The End are much better!.....Jeff Martin plays theremin on 'Turn the Lamp down Low' LIVE.

This was one of their biggest songs. I prefer their older shows, but this is still solid. They do use a lot of eastern influences and incorporate instruments from that region too. They used 35 different instruments on the record this album is off. Their most recent stuff is more straight ahead rock.

Actually the guys despise the comparison to Jim Morrisson, they don't aspire to that, its the media who've put that label on them.

The original album version (and older live performances of this song) are noticeably faster than this performance - if I were to guess, somewhere around 5-10 bpm - probably mostly due to them being 25+ years older now, right? It is a bit more impactful at regular speed. Not surprised there is only 8K views on the original video - mostly only hardcore fans watch full length concert videos. That’s probably about equivalent of 100K watches of a single song. Still might not get you there though ;)

I think it's called a bridge, which comes before the chorus plus a break down are from led Zeppelin's Kashmir.

To really see the depth and skill of Jeff Burrows' drumming is Psychopomp. Save Me, The River. Incredible!! You mention 'Bonhman' and yes these guys are true lineage to Zeppelin and I can truthfully say that, being a Zeppelin fan for nearly 40 years!
