You actually did two songs... The first instrumental part where Jeff burrows (the drummer) comes out to lead the crowd in the clap is a song called 'the winter solstice' and the part where he had the 'idea' is the transition into 'sister awake'

When reviewing live performances, it’d probably be a good idea to hear the recorded version first to give yourself a reference point as to how well a band conveys the song in a live setting. The recorded song has a sitar doubling the twelve string acoustic opening. It also has a hand drum breakdown with all three of them playing drums- hurdy gurdy & sarod are layered into the breakdown too. They just have some fun and embellish the breakdown live, as most bands would- and since you wondered aloud if it’s ‘necessary’, well, it’s a rather prominent and aggressive part of the song that bridges the gentle acoustic opening with the kashmir-esque rock that propels the song forward. It’s almost always their finale too, so of course it’s drawn out. They’ve also done completely different versions of this song with The Toronto Tabla Ensemble, a fully acoustic version with Jeff playing just an oud, Stuart on keys, and Jeff Burrows on MIDI drumpad & various hand drums. The recorded version is much more tight and cohesive and moves a bit faster. Many layers, mellotron horns, sitar, twelve string acoustic. As mentioned, the acoustic intro is celtic-feeling song called Winter Solstice from their first record, which shares the same CGCGCD tuning as Sister Awake. They often throw in a verse or two of Bowie’s ‘Heroes’ as an interlude before seguing back into their own song.

Can't believe no one has yet to request Psychopomp, a song many considers to be their best.

Psychopomp is one of the many good songs out of Transmission, in my opinion. I do prefer Transmission, Alarum, Emerald and Aftermath (yeah I know, I'm a sucker for that one... such a build up until the last song on the album). Still, I'll always stay with Walk With Me as my favorite Tea Party song. Can't believe anyone requested it yet :P

@@THEDavidHeretic Yeah, never been a single or a song that got any media airtime. Don't even know if they played it live since it's one of their longer song and not that well known. Anyway ! Have fun David :)

@@MightyPee they released a music video for psychopomp and it charted on much music. The MV was from live show intimate and interactive which was released as a DVD in 2007 and they had a guest string group playing and in fact that show had a lot of great performances that weren't indulgent at all because it had an hour long program with interviews and questions from the crowd. This all came from maybe a 1998 live tv show on much music so psychopomp was the last song they promoted from their third album transmission so they were more hitting their prime and peak growth in exposure unlike this reunion show which was swell but missing deep early cuts for later songs from their 4-7th album at the time.

It is called a harmonium, a centuries old Indian instrument which I see you mentioned later in the review. No surprise the Tea Party would use it.

The live reaction are way better than the studio tracks. Tea Party is a LIVE experience. They meld songs together and tell stories throughout the show. This was 2 songs. 11:21 is the start of the song

I would've had you watch the song performed in Vancouver 2019, however they do a tribute to the late Gord Downey from the Tragically Hip plus sing Paint It Black, so it would've been eight minutes longer. You for sure would've been looking at the clock more. The beginning bit with the acoustic guitar is actually a song called Winter Solstice from their first album. Also, the little interlude with the percussion is actually part of Sister Awake I'm happy with your score. It's one of your higher scores for Tea Party songs; glad you liked it

I love the Tea Party and this is one of my favorites of theirs. But, I agree with you. It was a bit longer than it needed to be. The studio version is about 4 and a half minutes. Also, I've always thought that Jeff Martin looks and sounds similar to Jim Morrison.

The song requested didn't start until 13:44 into the video. The video actually covers one track , transition into another. Would prefer you cover album recordings vs live stuff... but it's your channel. Still appreciate the content and your comments are legit valid.

Much like your previous reaction from this specific concert video, this song was again noticeably slower tempo than their earlier live shows and album versions of these songs (first two minutes was indeed a separate song, always used to lead into Sister Awake). Makes it feel like it is dragging on a bit, especially when they milk it like this at the end of their show. Still, I never get sick of hearing this, ending a Tea Party show!

And this was the last song of their live album DVD so they had a great audience likely the last show on that national tour.

This isn't one song but two songs with the intro being an instrumental that is from their first album then they play sister awake. It's an okay fit but sister awake isn't too long and the studio version is a lot more layered. Edit: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZiupYGnbddro8U so here is winter solstice which us an instrumental on their debut major label album which they play before sister awake. It fits okay but sort of lessens the impact of the change in sister awake. Edit 2: Jeff burrow isn't left or right handed, he was born omnidextrous.

it's a live show, the literal qualifier checkmark for "addition for sake of fun" peppered throughout set.... This is rather poor song to choose to listen to (for first experience) as a live performance, the album version soars... whereas this live take really is a "had to be there" kind of enjoyment... you should really do both live & studio reactions to hear the actual song.... everyone in that audience knows, and loves the song already so the pauses and audience chatting doesn't hinder things as it does watching first time hearing it... make sense?

Complaining about the length when you pick live vids is a bit silly. Of course there's going to be some Mayo on it. Plus, this was 2 songs. You have to see a TTP show live to truly get how good they are live. I've seen many rock/metal bands live, and they are easy top 3. But I have been a fan since the beginning.

I didn't pick anything. The requester gave me the link to this exact video when the request was made. I used the exact link that was given to me by the requester, just like in every video I do on the channel. I have zero control over what I listen to and watch, the channel is 100% request driven.
