The early Teardrops would just get their groove going and jam on this track for ages. I'm sure no drugs were involved in this shamanistic song.

Perhaps in their earlier days ("Sleeping Gas" being released in 1979), but from the time Alan Gill became involved in the band, it was certain that it was all about drugs, Gill having introduced Julian Cope to psychedelics. From there, Cope never looked back... (even though Alan Gill was long gone😉).

This is radically different to the original version of 'Sleeping Gas', which was their first single release in 1978.

It’s all about the vibe with this one .I’ve had teeth removed under sleeping gas,as a child, and the feeling it gives as you lose consciousness is very like this song as it all starts to dissolve near the end..

It digs into a Sleeping Gas of Doors sounds. It diverges from that just enough to be enjoyable to me. The repetition came close to being excessive, though, yes. Now for something completely different. (Utterly, but you could even find something unpleasant about videos about making armour ... yes, armour spellchecker, read your bloody Chaucer ... um ... oh yes. Armor making (might as well just cave in and try out cowardice for a change). Armor making might be even irritating to you, but don't let that put you off. There are some simple yet effective film making techniques in the video I'll link to that make this bit of armor making worth watching, but you only need to endure it for something less than three minutes, to know if that works for you, too. Might give you something to smile with aloof disdain upon. Might even give you a smile. (Makes an oaf like me guffaw, though.) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpipgmmJi7CLqac

Sounds like Saturday morning TV viewing and nothing to do but either watch or wander?

I agree with you Justin, "Sleeping Gas" with its cyclic pattern is not the most inspired Kilimanjaro track. There is frankly better on the album and it will improve on their next album, Wilder.

I agree, Wilder is their real peak.

@@-Ricky_Spanish- Yeah, wilder is an excellent album, unfortunately a bit overlooked even in 81.

I love the rhythm section, but not my favorite song on the album. The next one is a lot better!
