Basically, the story of Peter weeping after denying Christ is groundbreaking because, in that time and place, scenes of a poor, lower-class man crying were not presented as something the audience should be concerned about--except at times where it was played for laughs.

What is the reason for your exasperation? The point that Hart is making is that the Bible is a rupture in the kind of antique thinking that denied the 'lower classes' any depth of thinking.
