Desperately trying to claw my way out of art block. Your videos help a lot! And I adore your technique. Very similar to what I like doing when you draw nature and close to what I aspire to do when you draw architecture.

I'm personally doing a lot of studies on cloth and how clothing works with using pen. Something I never really focused on but find it comes in handy with architectural drawings also with awnings, umbrellas, etc. Finding the tension points and drawing the way gravity pulls cloth down. However it's hard to figure out where to properly place some lines since, if I was drawing cloth with say pencil or charcoal, I could get those shadows in-between ridges. So finding the proper softness for using my pens only has been the main focus for me right now.

Thank you - I always like it when you run through some of your drawings. Personally, I'm working on just trying to keep drawing. It's dispiriting to not have inspiring reference photos. If I don't like the subject I can't force myself. Then there's the issue of no audience to appreciate/critique it (yes, I critique it myself but it gets old and it's subjective). :( Watching your videos always gives me a bit of a lift. Thanks!

I'm trying different marks drawing trees to try and get a noticeable difference between them and contrast, drawing them close together rather than one tree at a time. I love it when I get it right sometimes, though it's not in my muscle memory yet😂, practice, practice, practice 👍

Sounds great. Have you seen my tree drawing playlist 😀

I'm currently focusing on a couple things right now: 1) observing the shapes, values, and characteristics of what I'm drawing, so i don't just draw from my mind or memory. And 2) hatching and cross-hatching - I'm still at the beginning of this journey, and my biggest struggle is slowing down, to make good hatch marks instead of scribbles: even if I think of doing multiple parallel hatches, the wobble all over the place and get those hook ends. Slowing way down lets me learn the muscle movement, I hope.

I'm trying to catch a pose of a figure in 10-15 minutes. Want to find a way to catch it very fast - not as fast as a gesture drawing, but enough to not worry much about proportions and angles with later layers of drawing. It's hard.

Im really trying hard to figure out how to draw detail that’s obscured by shadow, like drawing a herringbone floor lit by moonlight. Its hard tho 😞
