these movies become existential horror REAL QUICK when you break down the rules of the universe. I'm not just talking about the "can't stop singing" stuff. their is a part of the movie where they need to wait for night in order for the party to happen and the world just cuts to night and they are wearing different clothes. this implies that the world exists in accordance to "what should happen" and when nothing is happening it just cuts to the next plot point. THIS MEANS THE UNIVERSE ADAPTS TO THEIR EXISTENCE AND PUTS THEM INTO THE PLOTLINE OR THE MOVIE WOULD HAVE CUT WHILE THEY WERE TALKING.

For real, and if you think about it the fact that at the end of the first movie and throughout the second movie they're singing in the "real world" kind of implies that the rules of the movie universe seem to infect the real world with Brady, Mack, Leyla, and Tanner acting as carriers.

also in the opening song of the second movie (a song implied to be apart of the 'Wet side story' universe) they reference 'can't stop singing' (which didn't exist in the original) and 'surfs up' (a song that is sung by mack and Brady in the real world) - when I say this movie hurts your brain if you think about it too much

What I really like about these movies is that they are both co-lead. This isn't a movie purely for boys or girls. Yeah, it's a dcom, so there is an assumed audience, but at the same time there isn't anything in the movies that directly "belongs" to either group :) I also like that both movies, dispite being obviously co-lead, have female characters making the biggest decisions, in a way. Mckenzie has to make the decision to stay instead of leaving, and yeah the decision is based partly on her relationship, but that's OK with me. Leila has to make a decision about if she wants to still be the cute ditsy biker gal whose entire conflict is about her brother or her boyfriend or if she wants to do something else. Also, just my take on the whole "how the heck did that happen?" with the movie changing: Since Mckenzie and Brad's life changed because the movie did, it makes sense that the actors in the original movie suddenly had filmed a different one. If the movie can change in the real world, including real people's relationships and circumstances (because now neither Mckenzie or Brady has a reason to be at the beach that night, it makes sense that they now had new reasons) So the actors would just fall in line and believe that they filmed this version instead of the original. This is also why Mckenzie says that the movie has ahead of its time, because in the new timeline, it was extremely progressive.

“Critics who treat ‘adult’ as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” - C.S. LEWIS

I really love the first one because it's kinda like...rated G Rocky Horror Picture Show? With the cheesyness, couple being thrown into a universe of off-beat characters, and cool outfits (especially with the biker gang in Teen Beach), and the two main "normal" characters slowly being corrupted by the strange place they're stuck in, plus they accidentally get paired with some of the residents of this strange place. Heck, the guy who plays Brad in the 1975 Rocky Horror Picture Show movie IS IN TEEN BEACH MOVIE 1 as the old guy (I don't remember who he's supposed to be, I think he's the main girl's grandpa or something?) But the 2nd movie? No, I hated it, I hated it SO BAD! I thought the first one ended on a really high note and they ruined it with the 2nd movie!

I've always preferred TBM over TB2 because It felt like a complete story. They went to place, learned about themselves, went home. While TB2 is fine, I don't like a the plot choices, because it kind of disregards TBM ever happening? Not to mention, the songs for TBM all served a plot purpose. My high-school was SO BIG it was like an "open-service" lmao you could actually come and go as you want and bring any stranger into it and anyone could come which led to many problems (delinquents, big couple fights with a hammer and blood, people being pushed of the stairs...) and since I left they never improve the security... It's one of the biggest high-school in France but also one of the worst bc ANYONE can come in, there is no passwords, no check ups as in some other high-schools...

"This Disney Movie Is Really Weird" brings the seemingly dead series back to life. The jokes are extremely funny, and the concept of Seamus and Vegard watch a legitimately enjoyable movie that can't be ripped apart is such a brilliant idea, I'm shocked it is just now happening. However, the later half of the video, which for the most part is significantly weaker, still does offer classic ripping into DCOM jokes and critiques. Overall, not the best this series has ever been, but still good. 7/10.

My favorite song from this franchise is absolutely "Cruisin for a Bruisin." Just so catchy and fun! Teen Beach 1 is my favorite DCOM. It has amazing dancing, super enjoyable songs, and the way they depict surfing in Wet Side Story as very obviously fake compared to Mackenzie and Brady's surfing is so clever!

I actually have a connection to this series. They filmed the high school scenes from Teen Beach 2 at Robinson, a school in Puerto Rico (I live about half an hour away). Supposedly, the actor who played Tanner said it was hard to shoot due to the heat. So yeah a thing happened.

Hey Seamus, awesome video once again. I have a question: will you review the new Fantastic Beasts film anytime soon? I'm really eager to hear about your views on the film, so I hope you discuss it soon! I know and totally understand why you left the Harry Potter community, but I'd love to see you return to the franchise and make videos about it someday once again, as I admittedly really miss those videos; anyway, keep up the awesome work as always man :)

I remember this airing on Disney Channel, and how I would be at my grandmas a lot because she had to watch me, and the counter was on screen all week, and I had seen the first movie a couple of times, now I had never bothered to wait and see what happens when the counter was done, but this was the only time I had been hyped up for the Disney Channels count down thing, so the sequal to this was the only and first time I had seen a new movie premier on Disney's channel for the first time, and that's why these movies were and always be my favorite Disney movies especially how I remember nagging my grandma all day and got a bowl of cereal and was snacking on the couch watching the movie, it was like 9 pm but I was so excited to watch it that day.

I love Teen Beach Movie so much. When it first came out, my cousin and I watched it every night. I had it on DVD, I had the book, I had the CD, I had the necklace (it came with the DVD). My sister and I still watch it to this day because we just love it. A lot. Tanner, Lela, Butchy, and Rascal were iconic.

I love the first teen beach movie. It is pretty much the only d-com in my opinion to deliver genuinely funny one liners over and over throughout the entire movie. The overdramatic acting and how dumb the characters are because they're only supposed to have one personality trait is hilarious when done intentionally. With the first movie the main complaint from most people is that the mad scientist guys didn't fit in and kind of ruined the vibe and weren't even really necessary for the plot, which I agree with. There could've just been a natural storm forming at the end of the movie but Mac and Brady accidentally messed with the plot so now they have to fix everything before the storm comes and they have to leave. The second one I've only actually seen once and I saw it when I was younger and still the target demographic for disney channel movies. I don't really remember much of the movie but I know I didn't like it that much. I thought the concept was lazy because it was just the first movie in reverse, but it was bad because the real world was really boring in comparison to the movie. And I also didn't like the ending but I've always hated sad/bittersweet endings in movies. Layla wanted to live in the real world and get an education and a life and even though she can change the movie, she'll still never be able to fulfill her dreams completely. She only went back to save herself and everyone else in the movie, sacrificing everything that she had just found out that she wanted for herself. The second movie also sort of retconned the first in how Mac and Brady met. Like I think everyone just assumed they met on the beach while surfing because that's the interest that they have in common, Mac hated Wet side story so why would that be the determining factor in whether or not they started dating. Also, they made a second movie without really explaining how they were able to teleport into an old movie from the past, using a magic surfboard. They talk about the fact that it's the flower symbol that actually has the magic but they never explain why.
