The most difficult jump in figure skating. You have to do 4,5 rotations in the air. For doing this you need a long and high jump. And then you have all the energy, which is coming out of that jump, to balance out and land it and go on with skating. It is the only jump starting forward. I'am not a figure skating specialist, but if you are you good in physics, you can imagine, how difficult this jump is. And lots of others too.@@itzelramirez4801

Yuzuru is very special, not only for his skating talent, but also for his talent to win people's hearts , doing small gestures like hagging his opponents, applauding their routines, being respectful with the ones who beat him ... ( and, honestly, I have never seen a Japanese sportman expressing himself so much in public, except for Yuzuru... wich is, in itself, an amazing thing) and I hope his lessons of spotmanship will always be remembered, both by the future skaters and the public.

Yuzuru is an artist and an athlete so he recognizes and appreciates a job well done. He understands all the hard work that these athletes go through so he can empathize when someone is having a bad day. Yuzuru is also a genuinely good person. For a Japanese person, he is really openly affectionate which is so endearing. How can one not love Yuzuru?

This video made me realise how Yuzuru Hanyu changed figure skating, not only because he pushed the sport but also because he showed what a good sportsmanship is. I remember the video how he won 2012 JN and fans of other senior skater were unfriendly to him. How sad and young was he there, and then he became a hero and a star and everybody cheers for him, and he never became arrogant, he supports all the skaters and helps younger ones feel more welcome!

Nancy was a grown woman, while Oksana was a little a little 16 year old girl, an orphan who lost her mother 3 years before Olympic. She haved kind of difficult life, skated with approved anesthetic and still managed to bypass the bronze medalist of the last Olympics Nancy Kerrigan and become her country's first Olympic gold medalist. She made it, no matter what. Of course, she was crying, who wouldn't? To see such an attitude of Nancy towards Oksana was simply sad. I remember Kamilla Valieva, who was upset when she realized that she had lost to Anna Shcherbakova, but immediately started clapping to Anna with a smile. She was sincerely happy for Anna. And unlike the adult Nancy, Kamila is a little girl, but she was the one who showed what class is. The same with Medvedeva and Hanyu. They were saddened by the loss of gold, but they still treated the winners well. The ability to lose with dignity is not within the power of everyone. If you can't be genuinely happy for your competitor, at least don't act like an asshole.

Upon watching this documentary, I finally realize one thing - I live in the best Figure Skating era. If I were to start watching figure skating in 1990s or early 2000s, I guess I wouldn't watch this sport at all. How much this sport has changed really?! I saw some videos titled "Remember the good old days", but what good old days are there to remember??! The best ones are happening now with the current generation of figure skaters! Really hope Hanyu Yuzuru to stay healthy and not retire soon! Now I understand how much he and the skaters in his generation have changed the sport! Really love it..

While I agree with the general sentiment, I think it’s also very important to respect the great athletes, coaches and professionals who were there before us! None of the current crowd favorites would be here without them. This video is entertaining and well done, but unfortunately it’s also very one-sided and biased. I happen to speak Russian fluently and could hear things Medvedeva said about Zagitova at the the Olympics... It was not nice at all! And the whole drama with Eteri is quite ugly as well. This video makes it seem like it was all bad back then and is all good now. It’s not so straight forward.

I read those Russian news too and I know Eteri tried implicating that Medvedeva questioned her why Zagitova couldn't be held as junior for 1 more year. But those moments were never recorded and Medvedeva said she couldn't recall herself saying. Even if she did, it's a momentary outburst which all human would have. The video gave me an impression that they said Medvedeva was able to compose herself in front of public and show the right sportsmanship in front of audience though she is secretly jealous of her junior's achievement (I think they added some sentence in the subtitles to explain that point), while not perfect, but she is only human. But Yuzuru Hanyu is the real athlete who display his sportsmanship on and off the camera. I don't think the video is biased at all. It does seem to me that way. Sure thanks to the coaches. But what coaches can't teach is the real attitude and sportsmanship right? It's largely theirs. I remember Yuna Kim also trained under B.O. She was a good friend with Mao Asada and she just started alienating herself from Mao after the media hype up between Korean vs Japanese rivalry. Whereas look at Hanyu, he didn't alienating himself from Nathan after the US media hype up for Nathan to be the favorite Olympic Champion during Pyeongchang 2018. Also, I could see the young generation like 3As also being respectful of each others. And in the interview, Sasha credited Zhenya for that. She said that when she's junior, Zhenya would ask the other skaters to clear the path for her to do the quads in front of audience post Gala in European Championship 2017. So for the Russians, maybe secretly they have intense rivalry, but in front of audience they are always nice and those moments can't lie right?

@@FigureSkatingFan But what is bad and has been only worse is that ISU and their judges not show sportmanship when thy're hard working to "kill" Yuzu and bully him with too shocking low scores and favorise Nathan to scores he has not earned! Everyone knows it ,everyone are as afraid to talking about it openly! It's not skater's problem when sports management are so heavily biased/ bribered! Skaters are nice and I like them all. Therefore you need to talk about it too. There is nothing to be silent about when an athlete is so badly bullied by his own sport organization. ISU and the judges really raise questions? Is it racism,bribery or pure hatred against one athlete that makes them act so criminally? Perhaps you had no knowledge about it but now you know it and should do some research into the matter because it is so serious and has only gotten worse!

I've been thinking about this and about the far more brutal system Y & P skated under. They definitely weren't encouraged to think of each other as teammates or to care about each other's well being. They were pitted against each other and told that skating is a zero-sum game and were encouraged by coaches to cheer for each other's downfall. I'm sure that way of thinking did they both a lot of harm. ....which doesn't take away from how great Yuzuru and Javi are with each other. It's so nice to see the younger generations of skaters being better people and having such a different outlook on the sport and their relationships to one another. I can't remember who said it (Yuzu? Nathan?) but their attitude is more that they compete WITH each other rather than against each other.

@@michelleen158 Super well said. It's really the mindset of the generation and the coach. When the resources are limited, people tend to be more brutal towards each others and when the resources are abundance, people tend to be nicer. So we can't really blame Y&P as they grew up in such environment and the general atmosphere in 90s and early 2000s were really like these - competitions and not celebrating each others' success (Learn all these from my parents' stories too)... My personal take is that, only when figure skating become more popular, they would get more endorsement and resources to fund their training despite winning or losing, then they would be nice to each others, which is also one of the reason why we started this channel -- To make figure skating more popular as a sport. So more and more figure skaters are known to the world and more endorsement /sponsorship / funds / resources will be allocated to them. And yes that also doesn't take away Yuzu and Javi and current generation of skaters who are trying their best to demonstrate sportsmanship. It's really tough actually. I remember Brian Orser once mentioned it in some interviews pre-Olympic 2018 that Yuzu and Javi, despite respecting each others, couldn't train together in the same rink because they were in fact rivals going into Olympics. I remember I was discussing this sport with some of my friends who watch other sports like football, baseball, tennis etc. Everyone was shocked when I told them the World Champion Prize money was about USD $40K. They were like.. Are you sure you didn't miss out a few zero's somewhere? They thought it would be USD 400K or so at least. Just for a comparison, Football FIFA world Cup Champion got ~$40 million as a team. Tennis Grand Slam winner gets ~$1-4million as a player. Baseball etc all around the same range - millions. And yet the training fee for figure skating is not exactly cheap, if not, even more expensive. It's just, the audience is just too small... Just really wish all the skating fans start appreciating this sport more and share more about this sport. So future skaters will have more funds and more resources for their training.

this video is by far one of my favourites, the editing skills were on point and it truly showed the difference between the worst and best moments in figure skating. firstly, for the worst moments, for plushenko and yagudin’s rivalry. tbh javi and yuzu’s rivalry was really similar to theirs. they were training mates and they were competing against each other. but they never failed to display great sportsmanship and they respected each other a lot. plushenko and yagudin had every right to treat each other as rivals but at least they should’ve shown respect towards each other. for the best moments, yuzu really is a legend. he’s not only a great athlete but he’s also a great person. he always shows respect towards other figure skaters and when someone wins over him he’s always the one to go and congratulate them. for instance nathan, he didn’t treat nathan as his rival, they were friends, and they had perfect sportsmanship. nathan was yuzu’s most threatening rival and yet they never failed to show great respect towards each other. i feel like some skaters like yuzu, nathan, javi, evgenia etc really changed figure skating for the better!!

@@FigureSkatingFan That’s so much better than my generation. I was always in academic competition with my so-called best friend. I didn’t intend to be, but she definitely pushed it. She once told me I was her best friend because I “knew how to be quiet” when she was angry. She had trained me well on that front by not speaking to me for a whole month in 9th grade. I was extremely shy, so there were days when I didn’t speak to anyone at school during that month. Needless to say, once I went to university, I stopped being her friend. I didn’t need her negativity and my new friends didn’t make me compete with them. Sad thing is she married one of my distant cousins. He won’t talk to me because of her. He talks to my dad, but not me.

Totally agree! Oksana Baiul was inspirational there and we were Super disgusted by Nancy’s behaviour there (maybe she was too young or maybe she just thought she could always have it her way).. We normally don’t like to criticise the skaters and would always wanna find the reasons behind their actions. But unfortunately that behaviour from Nancy Kerrigan there towards Oksana Baiul’s crying and that stare were always a no no for us..

YES! I agree so much! Many people seem to hate on the fanyus because of the toxic fans. But the problem is that with such big fandoms like Yuzu’s its almost impossible to avoid some toxicity. So i really hope that people understand that. Most fanyus r rather chill! Love to yuzu❤

Damn I have absolutely forgotten the rivalry in figure skating used to be so bad! I'm now used to Yuzuru, Evgenia, Javier, Misha and others to being sweethearts to each other and having fun during competing... We truly live in the most amazing figure skating era! I hope young skaters take notes from these kind legends! And the old ones too haha! Yagudin is known to be a big fan of Yuzuru (who isn't tho)... legends supporting legends, what a wonderful thing to see! Also thank you for the video!:)

Yes me too. We are so used to the current generation of skaters being sweetheart to each others. So when we watched the movie "I Tonya" and the Netflix series "Spinning out", we were kinda, how to put it, quite disappointed that figure skating is being portrayed in such thing in the 90s.. Hopefully more and more people will realize how wonderfully supportive they are and more will start watch figure skating :)

While there's not much in the sportsmanship department there between P&Y, their rivalry was so intense and so dramatic. It was just the environment at those time that encouraged those toxic rivalry. We are glad that now everyone is competing and yet supporting each others. 💓

I fell in love to Mao's spirited figure skating. She was so bubbly and big in her personality. And never in her life was she an outspoken critic of her competitors. Only do fans show off their worst behaviors more than these figure skating competitors. And yes, even competitors can have their best moments on the ice.

Yes Mao is such a legend in both her skating and personality. It’s so sad that the media only concentrated on the drama between her and Yuna (and the politics between Japan and Korea) at that time at the helm of rivalry. Some legends do not show up their legendary side straightaway. It takes years of discovery to show truly how great they are. Mao-Chan is one such skater..

I love watching Nathan and Yuzu. Two definitive styles. Yuzu is emotional, dramatic and expressive as opposed to Nathan is has controlled, calculated and deliberate interpretation. Nathan's transitions are mind boggling.

I wasn't shocked when Evgenia went to Orser, she always had the energy of someone from TCC. If it wasn't for the pandemic, I know she still would be training here, but things just didn't work that way. Ещё бы, ей колено сломали, что бы у Оксаны был шанс. Грязными методами отобрали медаль. Странно, что она ей глаза не выцарапала. И не важно, знала об этом золотая медалистка или нет. Бывший муж на суде настаивал, что она организатор. Не зря же ей запретили дальше заниматься фк. Справедливости ради надо сказать, что Оксану всю её профессиональную карьеру задвигали. Хабалистая слишком. Так и говорили.

To lose against someone that trained less than you, or had competed less than you in the same field, I know that feeling and it can be hard to digest for competitive athletes. But not for Hanyu, the support he has for his opponents is not something that could be described with words.

Just imagine you take the exam and didn't do well despite studying it for days and nights while the top scorer basically just flipped the book :P We love something Hanyu said "Hard work will not always give results.
