We're back again after almost a year with our own breed of nightmare... another Trolls movie! This is the path DreamWorks has chosen, and boy does it continue to have a lot of issues. But hey, it revolutionized the industry for being a direct to streaming film in 2020, so let's see if it was worth such an accolade as we explore the world of Trolls World Tour...

This is basically 100% false. Poppy was a "Troll" in the first film, they never thought that far ahead. Being a pop trolls is based on her name (she is called it from "Poppy Pink"so its unrelated to her genre at all) and the fact the first movie was mostly pop songs. They didn't know what Cooper war, the only non-"pop" Troll from the first film until this film. This time, its a coincidence, I mean thy even said Branch was used as the basis for the Rock Trolls. In early versions of the film everything was completely different except Barb, but please, give some respects here is is not 100% what you think, its that they basically set the president from the first film with the overuse of Pop songs and now have to go with it for the main character

I only had a problem with how horrible they made the Rock Trolls seem, it was more of a stereotypical viewpoint of parents and adults rather than people who ACTUALLY listen to Rock music. They made them out to be the enemy and making them seem like they were all evil and in a way insane. They also made them seem selfish and insincere. For example, Barb might be controlling and a bit destructive but her father himself seems calm and happy with how things are going. Compared to Poppy I feel like they force to be the people pleaser that they need, like in the first movie where she realized that not everything is always going to be okay. Things happen and sometimes we can’t prevent it. But instead of keeping this in mind in the second movie, she goes on a journey to save all the musical strings but on her journey she judges them. Overall none of the other musical trolls are as represented as it should have been, especially the classical trolls, if the trolls had stayed with their instruments they could have shown their feelings through their genre. Such as K-Pop, I personally do not listen to that genre but I can say while it is popular they could have gotten a better genre to go with the movie. I do not agree with Poppy’s way to FORCE people to be happy. When people are sad you can help but you can not expect them to be happy as soon as you help them. Before I continue to ramble more than I already am I don’t think that Poppy is a good model for children if anything BARB is a better model by stating “Friendships deserve time and respect”, it doesn’t happen right away such as Poppy says.

I was hoping in the end when Branch was zapped, he didn’t transform seeing as he has a desaturated color pallet like the rock trolls. I thought that would be a good ending. I have a question why do they only have hard rock trolls. There are different genres of rock like classic rock, punk rock, grunge, heavy metal, nu wave, hair rock, glam metal, pop punk, power metal, progressive rock, symphonic, psychedelic rock, and rock n roll. There is so much more they can do with this like they could bring back the Bergen’s and have them represent the current genres they live in. And there so many awesome music duels they can take inspiration from. Also why is rock the villain, I know there isn’t really a villain in this movie but they could easily make a villain representing the music industry. This movie could have been at least good, not great but good.

Your point about the hard rock trolls being the bad guys is everything I can think of. People in hard rock are often some of the most accepting and nice people you'll meet. Punk, rock, hard rock, metal, and all their subgenres. But every movie ever feels like they use them as the "bad guys" similar to making punks unfriendly. I've been into this music since I was 12 and I've encountered tons of nice people who are very accepting of other types of music. Yeah, every group has their bad eggs, but as soon as I saw the hard rock trolls were the villains of the movie, I knew exactly what this would be like. In fact, most of the mean people I've met are into pop music :/ in fact, it would have been more interesting if they made the pop trolls be an unintentional antagonist where in trying to unite them after learning about the other trolls, they ended up just wanting to add pop to everything (like the way Poppy's letter or whatever to the rock trolls went over) and being toxic and positive and not respecting boundaries and the hard rock trolls call them out for it. But we all know the people making Trolls are just here for a cash grab and nothing more, so the mean looking hard rock trolls are the bad guys like every time. Edit: Even with them going with "the pop trolls tried to conquer" it is so poorly done and doesn't actually work as "the pop trolls were really the bad ones all along" because it isn't built up at all and is so rushed and falls flat. If they really wanted to do that in a 90 minute kids movie, they should have leaned into it instead of "hard rock trolls are evil oh but it turns out the pop trolls tried to conquer originally." But hey, I've already said that is too much for a cash grab and these people making it will not put in the effort. Also I do have to say I really enjoy the visuals and such of the movie. The trolls have a good enough and unique appearance and the worlds are actually quite beautiful to look at even if they aren't super memorable overall.

It's also pretty awful considering the movie pushes the rep that rock is "bad". Rock music has historically been seen as the 'devil's music' or 'evil', etc, so even though the dispute is resolved in the end, the movie still portrays rock as an evil genre through the majority of the film
@AngelEmfrbl
@AngelEmfrbl 2 жыл бұрын
The labelling of "evil" comes from Poppy calling Barb it; the rock trolls were following Barb's guidance. Barb and Poppy both thought they were the hero and barb considered the Pop Trolls "the bad guy" due to their presence from the past. Barb didn't realise she was repeating history. Proof of Barb being actually not evil is her own reaction to Debbie, her father, the kids of her own Tribe. Unfortunately, some things about the plot were cut before realise, she was suppose to also note in her talk with Poppy that she was living up to the legacy of her own father; a lot of the entire plot was her trying to live her to expectations of her station, but we just gt one glossed overline in the final version. It was confirmed from the creators, at no point were the Rock Trolls evil. As Poppy said, what would have happened with the strings in tact, another tribe would then repeat but Pop and ock did in the future. The strings were a ticking time bomb. Country, Funk, Techno or Classical would hav been the next to go out on a conquest. In reality, Poppy wasn't even correct, she thought the Trolls were, all the same, failing to acknowledge how different they were until it was too late and her friends, even Branch basically had had enough. She learns the lessons and realises her mistake.The entire movie's point was to be a reference to flat-out racism, it used music genres to represent different groups of people. I feel like at time points, people had so many issues with the movie and were so bias that they didn't WANT to pay attention to the movie and some of its details.
@hannahdavis4256

@@AngelEmfrbl Except for the fact that the way the rock trolls are presented IS as evil. Which is very common. This happens a lot in media and I've seen it many times. Rock/punks coming across aggressive and only protective of their own and them being "nice" is weird. Even if that was the intention, the thing is that it didn't come out like that. It was too messy and poorly written to have that message come across. It's like when people make a character they want to be likeable only for them to be unlikable. This is very common in poor writing and something I've seen tons of times. Trolls 2 has done it again. Think of actually good kids movies that can make people feel and realize a message. Trolls 2 isn't that. It's too rushed and too much is going on and it barely knows what it wants to be. I've seen plenty of media use diversity and and racism in such in better ways with better things to illustrate their points. Trolls 2 fell flat with this and ended up being something that wanted to pander to children. I don't even hate the Trolls franchise, but this was so poorly done. Especially representing the other music groups, especially with the "bounty hunters." Music is very indepth and such and they needed it to be shallow for it to be understood, which can work, but it still feels so poorly researched. Also if most people are missing that point, it's probably because the movie wasn't written well enough to have it come across. And if they cut stuff out then that's the issue, the movie isn't what it wanted to be, it's a stripped down shell of what it originally intended to be. Usually with cut scenes, they are scenes that ultimately felt unnecessary or had to be removed for time reasons but the movie still makes sense without them. If a whole plot point was lost because of a cut scene, that isn't a sign of a good movie that has its message well received. Regardless of the original intent, the rock trolls come across as mean, aggressive, and antagonistic. A stereotype that is rarely seen in real life. Even some of my favorite games and shows have used this stereotype even if they had them turn out "nice" by the end. Rock has a long history of being seen as this and being treated like this and being antagonized especially with its fans. Whether the movie intended to or not, it made rock out to seem to be an antagonist with no real say otherwise. You do raise some valid points, but the fact that so many people miss it, says a lot about how well the message of this movie ran over /nm /gen

I'm going to be fought and attacked on this opinion for sure but that just proves my point. Rock was literally for kids with issues. The ones who hated their parents and needed to let out pent up rage written by people who hated their parents and wanted to let out pent up rage. I listen to a lot of rock and even death metal but its not my go-to. Screaming head banger forceful music and dark edgy clothing isn't something to be glorified. You're wording it as if its a world changing respectful rebellious in a good way stand point. But teen emos and adults who never left that punk rock phase are some of the most embarrassing self loathing confused people I know. Its disturbing. And trust me I love gothic styles. And vibrant colors. My likes in both music and fashion are all across the spectrum. You're acting like kids should grow up idolizing emos and rock. And I full heartedly disagree. There's a good kind of controversial and a bad kind of controversial. I fight literally almost every opinion modern day people have because I genuinely think that this is one of the worst generations ever society and personality wise. This generation is so twisted up in the head that they're impossible to reason with and sheep into mass opinions. I stand firm for my beliefs even if im the ONLY person in the room with that opinion because I don't want to be a sheep or fake. So yeah, Rock isn't anything special and a god awful role model for kids, so is rap. This grnerations music taste makes me want to vomit, and like I said I like all music, but there's like 50% good rap, 50% bad rap, and this generation seems to only like the bad rap to the point where its not even music. Its barely english with all the slang and slurrs and incorrect concepts. I would have picked a very different Trolls sequel, but this wasn't GOD AWFUL and rock wasn't portrayed as badly as you're acting

Isn't it weird how this movie is literally exactly what it says it's against? It's canonical in this universe that the pop trolls attempted to conquer the others and wrote a revisioned history after the fact, then instead of addressing that they just have A POP DANCE NUMBER WITH ACCOMPANIMENT AKA: "Your culture is awesome so long as it's indistinguishable from ours!" ...You know, the real world enemy of "Celebrate your differences?"
@mariantambe5110
@mariantambe5110 2 жыл бұрын
No, it's the pop trolls try to take over the world, fail, and hide themselves away in the middle of the forest, separated from the other genres. The movie just fumbles a bit with showing that it's okay to like different things. Most of the trolls are intolerant of eachother and lived in separate widely spaced out communities. They just rushed the ending to have a mushy gushy " oh we all get along now" happy ending.

The thing I hate the most about this movie is that there were so many good ideas and a lot of potential but they totally wasted it. I'm imagining how cool it could have been if this was about the Pop trolls learning that they have been oppressing the other genres who now all band together against them. Poppy as the Queen has to show them that they can all be friends, but does so in such a way that is trying to make the others all conform to a more Pop way of life. The Pop trolls could learn to embrace the other genres and actually accept them as they are, and Poppy could learn that blind optimism isn't always the right way (I think they tried to do that). Branch could be the one who has to show her how to be adaptable since he gets along with all genres, so now he gets to teach her a lesson like she taught him in the first one. This would be a cool allegory for a lot of reasons. For one like Dazz said the music industry is in a weird place, especially pop where it's very manufactured and fake happy garbage with no real meaning (everything Barb said in her rant basically.) But also weirdly fits as an allegory about the state of America. Like how a certain groups claim to be embracing of all types of different people but only if they rigidly conform to their own standards of right and wrong. And we need to learn that different doesn't mean bad and there's value in different points of view. And they already included the revisionism.... Why am I thinking this hard about Trolls 2

Other thoughts for fight scenes: -Classical trolls are powerhouses, especially in large groups (orchestras). But because they're from an older era, they lack the ability to fully attack younger genres(?). They can use offense, but maybe it's a lot weaker. Their defense is nigh unbeatable. Unless you're Barb, who does her research and finds "weaknesses" in classical music defense. -Funk is highly advanced and super powerful. What can I say? They have offense defense, advanced tactics, etc. But Barb has multiple strings by now, they were destined to lose. -Pop trolls are so regressed because the other trolls exiled them, and hate everything to do with them.

As a jazz fan I wish there was more to it than just the one guy who doesn't even appear at the end. Jazz is probably some of the most creative genres of music out there and solidified a lot of music theory tropes we use today. Especially since Jazz could be its own world like you said. Smooth jazz, free-form jazz, big band, electro swing/jazz, bebop, modal jazz, swing itself fits under the category, rap jazz, Latin jazz, and more. It's a VERY diverse music genre to the point some people tend to mix it with other genres of music. Pop jazz exists, movie.

I think making it a trolls sequel was their first mistake. The trolls were supposed to be about happiness and finding your own happiness and whatever bullshit the movie where a guy wouldn't sing because it killed his grandma or whatever. I'd love an original world about the different types of music as embodiments of creatures, where we could get a bunch of cool songs and end with the frequently added lesson of acceptance, equality, and getting along. Mostly I just want it for the music because I don't mind admitting that I liked most of the songs in the movie- though I'd prefer there being more original ones than there were, if they were any, because I'm pretty sure I recognized them all from somewhere else.
