@@CaptainKotetsu experience wise ofc. But the whole thing about his character is his power and spirit energy is so substantial plus he’s a prodigy. It’s been hinted at that once he’s done growing he’ll surpass the likes of someone as powerful as shunsui and could even potentially get up to Yamamoto levels 🤷🏽‍♂️ Also you gotta factor in that while young and inexperienced compared to other captains he’s still a whole level above and more skilled then other captain potential shinigami like ikkaku and renji(until tybw) renji gets such a huge boost then(pretty postive adult hitsugaya is still above royal guard training renji tho)

I mean, I shouldn’t be surprised that a literal child can be a captain when they’ll give the same job to war criminals and mad scientists who torture people. @@CaptainKotetsu I mean Hitsugaya was able to defeat two Espada in the Fake Karakura Town arc and he was more the only one to pick up on the clues Aizen and Gin were laying down. Sure it was part of Aizen's plan, but it was up to him to figure it out, thus showing his perception and deductive reasoning to see things through. Sounds captain worthy to me.

The one thing about Zombie Hitsugaya that I always found amusing was how good he looked in the Sternritter outfit, because that meant after Giselle Gewelle turned him into a Zombie she went and got him a full outfit then after making sure it was a good fit then and only then went into battle.

Hitsugaya holding back is canon. In his first fight he tells a Lieutenant to move 5 miles away so as not to accidentally kill him. In his fight with Hallibel he refuses to go all out until he's been wounded and weakened enough that he doesn't have to worry about accidentally getting his allies caught in the crossfire. The other thing is, his zanpakuto is better for large-scale battles than it is for one on ones. His moves tend to be devastating area of effect moves that can decimate armies rather than moves that are meant to finish off one powerful opponent. Even so, I think we do get to see just how powerful he is throughout the series. In his first real fight Kira, a Lieutenant, is in complete awe of his power and ends up being KO'd by complete accident from Hitsugaya's shikai. Hitsugaya is also fast enough to dodge Gin's shikai at point-blank range despite being completely blindsighted. In movies 2 and 3 Hitsugaya briefly fights Ichigo and kicks Ichigo's ass both times. Ikkaku has no problem whatsoever taking orders from Hitsugaya, which alone shows his strength, because if Ikkaku thought of him as just a kid or didn't respect his power he'd never work under him. He knocks Luppi completely out of his resurrection form. He is able to fight evenly with the third-strongest Espada, defeat her when he goas all out, and impresses the strongest Espada. And Aizen never beats him without resorting to his zanpakuto's absolute hypnosis ability, something he doesn't bother with for Ichigo or Komumura. Despite being Worfed in the sense that he is used as a punching bag to show how powerful the villains are, he never loses a fight except against Aizen and usually still wins those fights in the end.

I agree, but regarding gin i think he is just pretending to fight, he doesn't want to blow up his cover and certainly doesn't want to kill someone close to Rangiku. He fought cause he had to, but wasn't there to kill.

I do think that Hitsugaya is the antithesis of Yamamoto. Think about it Hitsugaya uses ice, Yama uses fire. Hyorinmaru is a dragon while Ryujin Jakka is symbolized as a Phoenix. Hitsugaya is young and inexperienced while Yamamoto is old and wise

I'm surprised people didn't know holding back was in Toshiro's nature. In his biggest fight pre timeskip, Toshiro literally stated that he held back agaisnt Halibel due to fear of affecting the world around him, and the moment he stopped holding back he literally one tapped her and made Starrk ask Kyoraku if his Bankai was as strong as Toshiro's while also saying he wants to fight power on that level etc Even agaisnt Gin, he held back as he didn't use Bankai or wild out. The only time he didn't hold back and keep his cool was agaisnt Aizen

Basically all of his fights follow that arc. He half-arses it, violently ejects all of his blood, stops pissing about and immediately trashes his opponent.

He hated Gin, but he was still Matsumoto's friend and the moment she appeared the fight was over. In the human world, he first had a restrainer put on him, and the second fight he didn't even seem hurt despite Luppi thinking the hit was enough to kill him and then it took Toshiro one attack to win and almost kill Luppi(in his next appearance he had a bunch of bandages and Aizen said that he got seriously wounded). Against Harribel they had zero animosity towards each other, for whatever reason the anime elongated the fight, in the manga neither of them straggled and they pretty much just bought time until they were able to do their finishing moves, but by that point Toshiro respected Harribel to the point of apologising for not letting her avenge her comrades. He blitzed Yukio but didn't kill him because he needed Yukio to remove the rooms(he had zero interest in Yukio's backstory). Aizen was the only one he actually fully hated. I mean, first his 'sister', the only person except his grandmother that wasn't afraid of him, leaves him alone so that she can join Aizen's division, then Aizen wiggles himself into Toshiro's life/friend circle (Toshiro spent his birthday with Momo, Rangiku and Aizen), makes him suspicious of Gin, fakes his death and lets Momo believe Toshiro killed him(all the while his ex-captain's son is making a ruckus, that the entirety of 10th division completely ignores), stabs Momo, almost kills Toshiro. And to top it all of it turns Aizen brainwashed/groomed Momo so hard that even after the betrayal she still didn't believe Aizen would do such a thing. Considering who his ex-captain is, it's no wonder Toshiro has the same kind but fed-up personality as Ichigo and Karin.

@@reallyhimongod I mean let's be real for a second here. Hitsugaya would have lost to Gin in a serious fight, but that was never in the interest to the IC or OOC plot. Then we see him fight an arrancar but is being restricted. Then we see him fight an espada, albeit arguably a fake espada... anyway he incapacitates but fails to kill. But espada are supposed to be captain+ already at that point in the series. When harribel and hitsugaya fight, hitsugaya has allies and is fighting a very high tier opponent. No one seems to give credit, vasto lorde are supposed to be at or above captain at the beginning of the arrancar arc and adjucha arrancar are stronger than vasto lordes which would imply a vasto lordes arrancar is leagues above the others, which is made very clear by the release state rule and the fact than release state grimmjow is stronger than hollified ichigo until he gets his friend boost, and at that point bankai ichigo was relative to serious bankai byakuya immediately before the arrancar arc, and hollified ichigo is definitely way stronger than that. The same ichigo that fought grimmjow couldn't fight base Ulquiorra without a sword, and it is confirmed that base to base harribel is stronger than ulquiorra in raw power. How is ANY captain supposed to have a fair chance against an arrancar that scales ABOVE unarmed ulquiorra who manhandled vizard ichigo at a point where he is base to base relative to high tier captains. Harribel got fucked by Aizen but she actually is a big deal. The amount of actual asspull you need to justify hitsugaya winning at all against harribel is actually ridiculous, and in reality actually was. Think about it, Ulquiorra got beat by vasto lordes ichigo, harribel got betrayed by aizen end of the battle, stark got cucked by actual reality warping with an underhanded enemy, and barragan got negged by his own ability being too OP. There is an argument that noitorra was a vasto lordes, and if you count him he got killed by THE kenpachi zaraki. Neliel is a vasto lordes, however to be defeated she was attacked by noitorra, who is likely a vasto lordes, off guard while being debuffed by technology made by a former vasto lordes that regressed to adjucha to evolve into a more perfect being... yeah zeloppero was kinda... yeah... anyway every known vasto lordes has been beaten by asspull not actual combat. So yeah. Hitsugaya not winning makes sense.

He 100% pulls his punches because he is aware of how strong he could be and he holds himself back esp when other people are around because he is afraid/wary of losing control and innocents being hurt by his power. I think this definitely stems from his experience as a child when he almost kills grandma accidentally in his sleep. I think since then he makes sure he is very cautious. Examples of this is him telling Izuru to run when he fights against Gin and later in his fight with Harribel as well. That's what makes him becoming a zombie so terrifying, and explains the fear in the people he faces, because everyone is aware of his potential and power and now he's been stripped of his morality. I'd be terrified too, it was really cool to see, sad in a way too when you think who Hitsugaya is as a person before. I was on the edge of my seat hoping something to happen to help him out and it does, though in an equally brutal way.

@@ericb8241 He has lost a grand total of two fights vs Aizen and Bazz( technically 3 if you count the FKT arc vs Aizen, but everyone holds that L, 4 if you count zombiefied against Mayuri )not sure how that equates to ‘most’ of his fights, when in reality, theyre unfinished. Vs Gin the fight was interrupted, Vs Aizen he lost, He wins vs Shawlong, He defeats Luppi, He Incapacitates Halibel (until the timely arrival of Wonderweiss), he and the rest of the Gotei lose to Aizen, he beats Yukio, loses to Bazz B, and then defeats Cang Du, as a Zombie takes out an Arrancar and two Lieutenant level Soul reapers, loses to Mayuri and the 3v 1 fight against Gerard is left inconclusive until Gerard dies to plot/ Aushwalen. The only thing he’s guilty of is not killing his enemies, but three of the above listed were saved SPECIFICALLY to be used for the plot later down the line, so they needed to be kept alive somehow. Make it math.

My take on the whole zombified while alive thing is that since he was alive, his brain hadn’t decomposed at all and he still had access to all of his higher-order reasoning abilities. So it’s not that it was easier to control him, it’s that he was able to be told a general goal and exercise strategy to reach it, as opposed to being more of a mindless weapon who would need to be instructed step-by-step. To use a Naruto analogy, it makes him an edo tensei summon instead of… I dunno, someone under shadow possession? Something to that effect.

Looking back on that Giselle fight, Yumichika really was the perfect counter for her and Zombie Tosh. Would have been nice to see character development for him and Ikkaku’s friendship after releasing his true zanpakuto.

Giselle is either a trans character or a “surprise” character like Sylvia in Konusuba. Interesting enough, Giselle gets visibly annoyed when it’s discovered openly she has male attributes. But, she actually enjoys making bambietta basterbine beg behind closed doors. This indicates to me she has at the very least a little dysphoria.

I’m surprised Tommo forgot that Hyorinmaru is called the strongest ice zanpakto while ryujin Hakka is the strongest fire zanpakto. Kubo definitely used that massive ice attacks in base form to resemble ryujin jakka to show what it is like to have the strongest type of zanpakto, and with Yama even stating earlier that a bankai being refined over time can be a whole new ball game. With Toshiro being so young AND having bankai already, it really makes sense why he was made captain and why shunsui told stark in only about 100 years he would be stronger than him already.

To me it really seems like this version of Toshiro is very reminiscent of the old school gotei 13 from the times when Yamamoto was younger and Unohana was still the functioning kenpachi. Like, the times of the first iteration of the gotei 13. This is how i imagine them being, as in, remorseless, effective and relentless, giving no pause or quarter. Maybe that's why they were more feared and perceived as more dangerous overall compared to later iterations and generations who got bogged down in etiquette and ceremony or simple fears of affecting their surroundings. This to me is why the forst gotei13 has that aura of fear and respect surrounding it much more than later iterations while not necessarily being more powerful apart from the two monsters we already know of like unohana and yamamoto. Their demeanor and behaviour as well as maybe priorities were just vastly different then, and again also the etiquette and ceremony.

Issue is he just has low showings as well do to his inexperience earlier on in the series compared to the other captains, as well as how he always got emotional with aizen cuz of momo and would rush in and then proceed yo get One shot(which happened twice between him and aizen 💀) to be fair that’s aizen tho and aizen one shot hella niggas 😭 and if it wasn’t a one shot aizen would make sure to get it done in two 🤧🤧💯

@@TheFallen_29 for the most part yes, he did well but has the excuse his power is immature. He managed to seal Hallibel to the put she could not break out and beat cang du near death. Even starrk saw his bankai as more powerful than Sui Feng. His feats in tybw put him another class though

@@djwoosie98 Yeah, but consider this, Momo, Renji and Kira were in the same class. Momo was in her last year in schooling when she decided to try extra hard to be part of Aizen's division and stops coming home because of that. That's when Rangiku finds Toshiro and he finds out he has powers. And then he graduates in one year. Mind you, Rukia and Renji entered the same day, so she was already adopted by the time Toshiro enrolled and took the noble way out and graduated early. Compare that to Soi-Fon/Feng(second youngest captain), who was raised to be part of the millitia. Plus nobles were raised to become Shinigami's and they don't have to go to the academy

Hitsugaya's killing intent with Showlong was because he and his fellow Arrancar where there to attack Karakura, if the Shinigami didn't get lethal there would've been a full on massacre of the townspeople before Aizen's invasion. The Zombie incident sure showed the general brutality of the war and how Yhwach's drive for his goal goes beyond everything.

@@TheFallen_29 Yeah Gotei 13 was going to get deadly regardless but more so when the town was at stake. Between Yammy's park massacre and Aizen's rampage in the real Karakura town things were ugly. In general however, war without mercy is the norm among Spirits even if human lives aren't in danger. And if prisoners are miraculously taken it's to be expiremented on/killed.

I always love to compare the contrast of Yama and toshiro.Young-old Ice-fire ect. I’ve also always loved Yama screen time and dialogue while disliking toshiro’s. Maybe I expected more from the youngest captain prodigy because to me he always seems to lose. But after watching this video I see it differently. The toshiro I always looked at as overhyped and not all worthy of praise of being a prodigy and things, was just my ignorance. This video did a really good job at highlighting how much toshiro would hold back and pull punches. Which makes perfect sense to me. Zombie toshiro holding nothing back has panels that look like Yamamoto’s but with ice. And this also puts me even more in awe of Yamamoto. Because ywach said something similar to Yama getting weaker overtime because he now had a sense of moral and justice. Does that mean that Yamamoto we know has actually been pulling punches to the same degree toshiro was? Just how strong and brutal was a prime Yamamoto?

Your initial comparison to Head Captain Yama is very interesting. Looking at Hitsugaya, I feel like he really is the polar opposite of Yama. He’s the youngest captain, he acts on his emotions, he’s the least experienced and most notably, he wields the strongest ICE zanpakuto. I feel like he’s supposed to represent a new generational power on scale with The head captain’s, but is just currently very young and inexperienced in comparison with still untapped potential. This is why Shunsui mentions he’d surpass him in another hundred years (which isn’t that long to them). Just an interesting take (I haven’t finished the whole video yet).

For the reason Hitsugaya and people who are turned into a zombie before death are more easy to control, I think it’s because since the person is still alive, their mind is still actively attempting to get out of zombification. This is why Hitsugaya displays little to no emotion at all, as his personality is locked away in his mind, which is still actively working, but failing against the zombification. Corpses are harder to control as their personalities are on full show since their brain isn’t fighting the zombification. I know that’s complete speculation, but it’s the way I can understand it best.

i mean...he's a child....keeping pace with captains that have lived for centuries....that is literally all that is needed to show his prodigous talent. it may not be flashy but that feat in and of itself elevates him immensely. literally a child....became a captain....and is even stated by one of the outright strongest captains that he will surpass him in a mere 100 years, which is a blink in the eye of an near-immortal soul that can essentially live for millenia....he doesnt need to show off, the context of his existence in the story literally tells you all you need to know about how powerful he is and stands to be in the future. by dint of being in the position he is and the severe experience gap between he and his compatriots, that he exists within the story as he does at all, genuinely explains everything. the proof is really in the pudding with toshirou, he is acknowledged and recognized by literally every captain including old man yama....what more could you possibly want for evidence of is ability and potential??? as well, of course zombieshiro did not show his full fighting capability...he was under someone else's influence/control; therefore lacking the same mind for battle and intimate knowledge of his powers....it pretty much a ginyu/goku situation, giselle barely tapped the surface. he was a captains he controlled, that he was a captain-class comabatant was enough to use him even without being able to fully utilize all his ability. a key component to near anyone's power is their mindset and process by which they utilize their abilities. without conscious control of one's self, you can never fully tap into nor express the totality of your power and capability. whilst i love your work, this one highlighted your lack of understanding of some characters. that is not a knock at you, merely an observation.

I simply love your analysis that's in all your videos. Just spot on. I have only watched the anime. I have not read the manga, so that's my loss. But, I will say that Bleach is my favorite anime of all time. Yes I have seen others, but none can compare to bleach. Some come close, but Bleach still rules the roost. I have watched it from 1-366 I don't know how many times. My "problem" is that I remember a lot of the big moments. But some I don't, and when I see them I like getting surprised by saying "Hey, I forgot about that part." Your videos, while great in there analysis, make me remember things that I forgot and then I am "upset" that its lost the surprise. So, even though I want to watch all your videos, part of me doesn't because I like the surprises when I watch it again. But, I am reading the manga and that is even bring things back that I forgot. Hitsugiya is 100% always holding back in his fights. He tells Kira to flee when fighting Gin as he is worried he may kill him by accident. When fighting Shalong he is in the middle of the city and Orihimes home. When fighting Lupi he is fighting with others and takes and limits himself. Same can be said for Halibel where he avoids using all of his swords abilities like weather control. Which he uses at the end of the fight as it could kill everyone in the town and ends up almost one shotting her with it. He’s a beast but lacks control and so restrains himself.

Before I even started the video I thought to myself .. hmm sometimes Hitsugaya doesn’t feel like a captain (when it comes to strength).. i thought oh maybe I’m being crazy. But to hear you say it at the beginning of the video most definitely tells me I’m not alone. iirc....at one point earlier during bleach, they kind of talk about a few of the different zanpakuto, and I believe that it's mentioned roughly in the same breath that, while Rukias Sode-No-Shiraiyuki is the most beautiful Ice type in all of soul society, Hitsuagaya's is the most powerful ice type, almost, if not truly on par with Ryujinjaka, but he feels that he wouldn't be able to use his full power without severely hurting those around him

I agree, but I think people underestimate the area of effect of hitsugaya vs hallibel. He was literally effecting a large portion of the town. That is near the level of the effects of old man yama, and on top of this, he was doing so after being weakened, because he couldnt fully control it from his own words. So the area of effect at full power would most certainly be far large and enough to encompass his teammates given his own words. and I'd imagine that with less power, comes the ice too being less powerful more than just the output radius being smaller. Which it was still able to trap someone as powerful as hallibel for some time.

Seeing Hitsugaya fight like this is amazing. It brings respect to the title of captain. I love the way he manhandles seated officers, truly demonstrating the galaxy of difference in their power level & skill. However, I feel like Kubo missed an opportunity in bringing the point home that Hitsugaya’s loyalties & morals had left the building. He should’ve secured the kills on them via beheading or something. He didn't let Toshiro kill him, but he knew Toshiro was stronger than him in terms of traditional combat and set up a trap with his death being the activation requirement. Reason why I say that was because Mayuri said that his speed wouldn't be able to keep up with even Base Toshiro without his device, and then Toshiro simply acticating Bankai and not even attacking literally blitzed and killed Mayuri since the mind loop showed what would've actually happened More evidence is Mayuri struggling to fight off Perninda even with Nemu's help while Toshiro on his normal Immature Bankai was able to 1 v 1 Gerard for an extended period of time even though Gerard folded 0 Squad training Renji and Rukia, Shinji, Momo, and a bunch of Visoreds using their Hollow Masks all at once. The same Gerard that was called the strongest and fastest Quincy even in this form and eventually beat Shikai Kenpachi Toshiro didn't get any stronger between when he was a Zombie and this point in time as far as we know unless you count the Soul Zenkai thing

The thing with Hitsugaya's mind makes more sense than you think, and actually makes the most sense that way, when you get into what happens to the brain when you die, to your mind, vs when you're still alive. And what complications still being alive could pose to being controlled. Especially against your fellow allies, like he had been. Take a small moment to think about it, when already dead, there's no need to wipe the mind because it's already blank. Being dead means no brain function. Let alone brain function to resist being controlled. But when still alive, that brain function is there. In order to control someone better, it actually makes more sense if they're alive when you implement the control or influence to wipe their brain, wipe their mind, and thusly their ability to resist. And I think Giselle's ability works on the dead by raising them as you'd expect from a typical zombie, and the living by exerting influence and control over them, thus turning them into zombies through that. Which means that if that is the case, it would make sense that if she didn't wipe their mind as well in the process, it would end up allowing them to resist her commands. Which wouldn't be ideal in the heat of battle. On top of that, it could also be that wiping their minds is how she gets rid of their moral compass, any inhibitions, etc. So when you think about the science of it all, it actually makes a *lot* more sense for their minds to be wiped if still alive when she zombifies them.

With the zombie thing, I think it has to do with the flow of blood to the brain. If affected before death, then blood still flows to the brain and you can say that it is more likely to result in a change in the way a normal human's brain is likely to change through gaining new memories or even losing them. However, for the dead, it might be that their brain gets set in place, where no new changes can be made, and thus the personality gets set in stone. I assume this has to take place after the cortical brain death to truly keep the same personality. I think if hypothetically someone had a cortical brain death and yet their brain stem was still intact, then even though they are technically alive if they were turned into a zombie then they would retain their personality. Of course, this is just my speculation about the matter.

It's probably because since his body was completely fresh before he died or passed out all he needed to do was pour his blood into him the brain won't be damaged or destroy because the brain wasn't deteriorating nor damage it was a fresh brain so naturally he would remember his fighting style but because of his blood muster interfere with his subconscious thought or some conscious decision

i feel the main problem with this statment is you dont know how aging works in the soul society like rukia even after having children look the same the only difference is longer hair, even after ichigo loses his bankai ehen he sees all the soul reapers again they all look exactly the same except there hair so so we don't know how old Toshiro is, we just know he has the BODY of a teenagers

13:24 I think it's because Quincy are naturally resistant to another's power. So it kinda makes sense why Bambi still retained some of her mind. Though I can't explain why Toshiro didn't retain his personality. All I really remember is that it was sorta hinted that Toshiro was slightly resistant to Giselle's zombification ability. Him not retaining his personality or mind might be due to having become so mentally defeated when Bazz-B said he was going to use Toshiro's power to kill Matsumoto. But that's just my theory.
