Retro reviews is a very cool idea. I haven't read this one, but I've heard nothing but great things. A 200- 300 page wrap up, however, puts me off a little, if I'm being honest.
@EdwardLorn5 жыл бұрын
There's stuff going on for those last 200 pages but it seemed a bit excessive. Honestly you might not notice.

A top 10 love of mine, as too all cold endeavors E ! Have you enjoyed any of Sir Douglas Mawson to date ? Such awe of the fortitude and resolve of a singular man. His temperance and self mastery is bewildering against all opposition. Haha 'pacific', in fear of embarrassing myself but utterly fessing up, that's me and my pronunciation. Loved the authenticity of the retro review without revising. Fab once again 😊.
@EdwardLorn5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Sarah. I've not read Mawson. Where should I start?
@sarahholmes22775 жыл бұрын
I apologise E, Mawson himself is an Antarctic Explorer. His achiements are not as greatly known as the mighty Scott, Amundsen or Shackleton (he was a student under Shackleton originally). His 1911 expedition and horrors that ensured were over shadowed by Scotts demise, sadly. I shall send you a little something and hope not to spoil. I have been hoping for a fictional account and made to film as the foundations are there for a real fright. David Roberts - Alone on the Ice, is a stellar place to start 😊.

I actually have never read Dan Simmons! I have heard of this book though and I love stories based on actual events and then an author twists it to horror/supernatural! Should I start with this one or I also have , "Carrion Comfort," by Simmons?
@lazyhomebody13565 жыл бұрын
No way! Don't reread the books. It's a brilliant idea to do reviews like this! I reread alot, but even so, this gives an idea of the book's lasting impact, and which scenes remain vivid. If you came up with this idea, you deserve a Nobel Prize, I'm serious
@EdwardLorn5 жыл бұрын
I don't think I deserve a prize but it was my idea lol

Fun retro review. Also, one of my favorite books. Thinking about epic novels, do you have an example of one that wraps up without that anticlimactic feel? I can imagine that would be one of the most difficult things to pull off: a 700+ page book that ends with a climax and short denouement.
@EdwardLorn5 жыл бұрын
That's a damn good question. Lemme think on it and get back to you. I wanna say BATTLE ROYALE, but I don't think it was over 700 pages. I think it's just over 600.
@glenkrisch48445 жыл бұрын
@@EdwardLorn I had the same exact thought about Battle Royale. I no longer have my physical copy to check... hold on a sec... Amazon has different editions, and it's about 625 pages. I'm going to have to think about this some more.
